Surprises
Giles is sitting on his couch looking through an ancient text trying to find the demon he killed. Buffy and Xander are looking through books also hoping to find something about the prophecy they had missed.
"Why aren't we looking for Ethan Rayne?" asks Xander tired of books. "I so need to hit something."
"Unfortunately I think he's dead," answers Giles.
"Think the demon who came after you got him?"
"No way-" answers Xander, "he's out there somewhere."
Buffy turns to Xander- "Little too neat isn't it?" Xander nods.
Giles look up from his book, then turns it toward them. "The Regar demon-" He turns it back to him and reads aloud. "They're from an order of bounty hunters thought to be extinct. They are used to do the bidding of an Ancient called Keslar."
Xander picks up the book he had been reading and turns the pages hurriedly. "I read something about him." He hands the book to the ex-watcher.
Giles reads the pages quickly and his eyes meet Buffy's- "We need to call Willow."
Xander picks up the phone as Buffy runs out the door.
The witch and the young Slayer sleep peacefully for the first night in weeks unaware of the danger that is awaiting them. Aly begins to fuss- Willow stirs but doesn't wake up. The balcony door slides open and standing only feet away is Ethan Rayne. Aly cries louder-Kennedy opens her eyes as the door bursts open and four demons attack. She leaps toward them able to knock down two of the attackers. "Willow!"
The redhead wakes and sees the scene before her. She is surprised to see Ethan fighting the demons along side the young Slayer. Willow grabs the babies and slides across the bed with them. She hides there but looks up at the action. Seeing Kennedy is taking a pounding she launches an assault of her own. The beam knocks the demon against the wall and he fall unconscious. Deciding that Kennedy can now handle the fight with Ethan's help she puts a force field around herself and the babies. She looks relieved as Buffy enters the room and within minutes the demons are all dead. Willow drops the field, leans against the bed, and holds tightly to the babies as they cry. She comforts them as Kennedy runs to her. Their eyes meet- "We're okay-"
Kennedy kisses her softly and helps with the babies. They final calm down.
Buffy stares at Ethan-he holds a book toward her. "I promised this to Ripper-think you can get it to him?"
Buffy nods- "Yeah-but why?"
"I figure if I can't have them-then they should be with their parents." With those words he disappears.
Kennedy and Willow are now sitting on the bed. Buffy stands in front of them with the book. Willow looks at the Slayer- "How did you know?"
"We were at Giles' researching the demons that jumped him."
"He's okay?" asks Kennedy.
"Yeah-I should get this to him-I mean if-"
"We're good-" smiles Kennedy.
"We'll meet you in the morning ready with the researching." adds the witch. Buffy hugs her friend then leaves quietly.
They are all sitting around the table again the next day. Willow seems a little unsure- "You're sure about the translation?"
"I've gone through it twice then cross referenced it with the coven. It's accurate."
"Wow-" is all Kennedy is able to say. As she takes Willow's hand in hers. Their eyes meet and together they look at the babies playing in the playpen. "Wow-"
Buffy agrees, "Definite wow-"
"Can you image-?" adds Dawn.
Willow shakes her head. "Not really no."
"Slayers and witches who have more power than any before or after." Giles rereads the translation.
"Power that can be used for good or evil-depending on those who raise them." Says Xander.
"No pressure there-" says the redhead nervously. Kennedy squeezes her hand their fingers laced together.
"No sweat-we got it under control."
Willow smiles and leans forward to kiss her as she does a force field appears around her.
Xander laughs along with Dawn and Buffy. "Some one's a little jealous."
They all look toward Aly- Willow's voice is calm and stern, "Alyson Anya-" the barrier drops immediately and Willow kisses her Slayer. The others smile. When they break the kiss Willow walks to the playpen and picks up her daughter. "We need to talk."
The baby looks in her eyes- "Mommy-"
Willow smiles.
Happy Days
Pictures- there are pictures everywhere you can see. Newborn pictures of the twins while they were still in the hospital. Annie and Aly nestled securely in Willow's arms. Kennedy holding them too-pride evident in her smile as she looks down at them. Then more pictures, in the nursery, Willow rocking them. Kennedy is reading to them in the picture on the mantle. Beside it is a picture of both Willow and Kennedy giving them a bath, parents have bubbles on them and are as wet as the babies. As you continue to look down the mantle, there are more pictures of them on the balcony and in the garden.
As you enter the kitchen you can see it is decorated with balloons and streamers. Over the door is a banner that reads- "Happy Birthday." Kennedy is again taking pictures-the twins are in highchairs, each has a small cake on the tray in front of them. Willow watches as the girls tentatively begin to touch the cake. She makes a face as their fingers begin to play in the icing. Buffy, Xander, Giles, and Dawn smile at both the children and the redhead's expression.
"Careful," says Willow as they start to eat. Soon, they are a sticky, chocolate mess. They are covered from head to toe. There is icing in their hair on their shoes and everywhere in between. The gang begins to laugh.
"Mama," says Aly as she puts down a big piece of cake.
Kennedy sets the camera down and walks to the baby. "Like the cake baby girl?" asks the younger mother as she smiles at the mess.
"Yummy," answers the girl. "Out Mama?- Out." She holds up her chocolaty hands and without hesitation Kennedy lifts the sticky child from the highchair. Aly's hands reach forward and touch Kennedy's face leaving their mark. She kisses her on the mouth leaving chocolate there as well. Kennedy smiles as she sees the flash of the camera.
"Xander!" She gives him a pretend glare.
"Couldn't resist." He smiles.
"Who could," says the redhead with a smile and a raised eyebrow as she puts her arms around her Slayer. "It's just too cute."
"So are you," Kennedy whispers as she kisses Willow softly.
"Mmmm" is Willow's response as she can taste the faintest hint of chocolate on her lips. "Tastes good." Whispers the redhead into Kennedy's ear. The young Slayer shivers at her words. Willow kisses her again and they get momentarily lost in the passion. Dawn smirks at Xander and Buffy smiles.
As their hands start to slide over bodies, Giles clears his throat and begins to clean his glasses. Dawn giggles because he is so uncomfortable. Willow pulls away a little embarrassed. She blushes slightly. "Sorry."
"Mom-Mommy-" says Annie trying to get her attention. She smiles as she sees the little girl reach for her. She picks her up forgetting about the icy mess. As she feels the chocolate she makes a face. Kennedy is still distracted lost in the effects of the kiss. Her hand rests on Willow's stomach as she plays with the bare skin just under her shirt.
Buffy smiles, "Why don't the two of you take a walk-we'll clean up the super heroes."
Willow looks from Kennedy to Buffy and back again. She raises her eyebrows in question. Kennedy looks unsure. Dawn adds, "It'll be like an extra present."
Willow smiles and hands Annie to the teenager and Kennedy hands Aly to the Slayer. "Thanks-" she says still distant as she and Willow leave hand-in-hand.
Buffy makes a face as she holds the toddler at arms length. "Whose idea was this?"
"Yours actually-" says Giles then he smiles. "Xander, I think this is where we say our good byes."
"I think you're right." The two men leave without another word.
Buffy looks at Dawn, "Bathtub?"
"Oh yeah." They walk that direction.
Outside, Willow is leaning against the house as Kennedy's lips find hers. The kiss becomes more intense as their lips begin to open and close against each others in a slow and steady rhythm. Kennedy's hands hold Willow's hips as she moves closer to her making contact. She moans softly. "Goddess," she whispers as she pulls out of the kiss and leans her forehead against the young Slayer's. She looks into Kennedy's dark eyes.
The brunette kisses her again chastely. "You okay?" she asks her body still firmly in contact with the witch's.
"Yeah-it's just-I-" Kennedy moves slightly. "I- it feels-" she fights to continue her thought. "Someone could see us." She blushes.
"No one here but us-" she leans in for another kiss as her hands begin to stroke Willow's sides. She finally rests them on Willow's checks as she kisses her. The redhead is short of breath as the kiss ends. Her breathing rushed by the effects of the young Slayer's hands on her. As her lips slide to the redhead's neck she leaves a trail of soft sensual kisses in its wake. Willow moans out loud-her body moving to press itself closer to her lover's lips and hands. Kennedy pulls her lips away-and smiles at the results of her actions, need evident on her redhead's face. "Please baby?"
Willow nods; words lost for now as Kennedy works her own magic. She runs her tongue ring along Willow's neck and collarbone. As her hands slide higher under her shirt she begins to massage her breasts.
"Goddess," moans Willow even louder, her own hands now tangled in Kennedy's dark hair. She pulls her Slayer's lips back up to hers and they kiss again. The young Slayer moves her leg between Willow's giving her the pressure she needs. The witch begins to move on it slowly as the kiss heats up. Tongues explore and then dual as their bodies find a rhythm.
Inside the house, Dawn and Buffy are giving the chocolate covered birthday girls a bath. The babies are laughing and splashing. As they do, both babysitters get wet. The Slayer doesn't seem happy with this fact at first but eventually she loosens up and playfully splashes them back. Soon the room is a mess but everyone is having fun.
Finally clean and dry, Buffy and Dawn are diapering and dressing the girls for bed. When Buffy finishes she puts Annie in her bed but she starts to fuss. "Do you think she's hungry," asks Buffy as Dawn stands at the bed with Aly.
"No, just spoiled." She says with a smile.
Buffy smiles too, "Better not let Willow hear you say that."
"No, not in a bad way, it's good. I mean they read to them."
"Oh- so it's story time?"
"Book," says Annie.
Buffy picks up a book from the dresser and then takes the baby from the bed. She and Dawn both sit with them in the rocking chairs. Buffy tries to hand the book to Dawn. "Here you go, 'The Cat in the Hat."
"Buffy read," says Aly.
"Okay-Buffy read." She smiles at the girls and begins the story. Dawn smiles as Buffy softens and cuddles with Annie. As the story ends sleepy babies beg for another and the Slayer caves, picking out a different book.
Outside Willow and Kennedy are trying to catch their breath after their latest round. Willow kisses her softly her body resting on top of Kennedy's who is on the ground. Kennedy sits up and the redhead is now sitting on her lap, legs wrapped around her waist. They smile and she kisses her Slayer again. "We should get inside."
"You don't think Buffy can get them down for the night?"
"No-she can I just -I like story time too," admits the redhead.
"Let me tell you a story-" says the young Slayer as she leans in and whispers into Willow's ear. As she does she lowers her to the ground.
"Am I going to like the way this story ends?"
"Definitely." Kennedy's lips find Willow's and they begin again.
Later in the nursery Kennedy and Willow stand in the doorway. They smile as they watch Buffy humming softly to a sleeping baby. Dawn also sleeps; Aly cuddled safely in her arms her eyes closed too. Buffy looks up at them and smiles. Willow smiles back. "Everything go okay?" asks Kennedy.
"Yeah-it's all good. They crashed about thirty minutes ago." Dawn slowly opens her eyes and moves slightly careful not to wake Aly.
"Hey," Smiles the teenager. "Guess I fell asleep."
"Cause I'm a kick a- kick butt story reader-" smiles the Slayer triumphantly.
Willow walks to Buffy and picks up the baby. "I'll get her tucked in."
Buffy stands, "Will-may I?" Willow nods and hands the child back to her friend. Dawn gets up with Aly and follows her sister to the beds. The couple watch as their friends take care of their children. Kennedy's arms are wrapped tightly around Willow's waist from behind; her lips are pressed against her neck. Willow smiles and leans into her embrace and circles her arms with hers.
The babies tucked safely in bed Buffy faces Willow. "We should go-"
"Thanks for-for everything."
"Anytime you need a sitter call."
"You definitely got a job." Smiles the young Slayer to her mentor- she smiles back. The Summers sisters leave quietly. The couple walk to the beds and each kiss the sleeping toddlers. "Sweet dreams," whispers Kennedy.
"See you in the morning." Turning on a small light and off the lamp, they leave hand-in- hand.
Snuggles warmly together in each others arms the witch and the Slayer wait for sleep but it doesn't come.
"What ya thinking?" asks Willow, her body spooned protectively around Kennedy. Kennedy turns in her arms and faces her biting her lip nervously. "Baby?" Willow is worried her heart suddenly racing.
"Remember when we talked?-"
Willow forces a smile, "I might need a little more info-we talk a lot."
"Yeah-almost as much as we make-"
Blushing the redhead stops Kennedy's words, "Almost." Then her lips meet and things escalate quickly. Hands caress bodies and mouths soon follow. Both fall over the edge together.
Trying to calm her breathing, Willow kisses her softly. Bodies still tingle from aftershock and the contract doesn't help the situation. "Wow-"
"Ummm-" is the only answer Kennedy is able to give, Her body and mind still reeling from the high as she tries to return to normal. She rests her head on Willow's stomach; her hand is holding her redhead's their fingers laced together. Kennedy other hand strokes the bare skin of Willow's leg. They lay quietly. The young Slayer is finally able to collect her thoughts and she turns to look into the redhead's eyes. "Willow, let's have a baby."
The young witch's eyes never leave Kennedy's, "A baby?"
Kennedy nods then just watches as a smile slowly crosses the redhead's face.
"Okay?" asks the young Slayer.
"Okay-" agrees the witch.
"Yeah?" Kennedy asks to reaffirm the answer.
"Yeah, let's have a baby." They kiss softly as they pull apart Kennedy smiles-and so does Willow.
Rethinking
Weeks later Kennedy and Willow are sitting on the couch looking through a three ring binder of pictures and biographies. Their time has been spent at the clinic and talking with doctors. Now, all that is left is choosing a donor. Willow stops at a page and looks at the young Slayer in her arms. "What do you think about this one?" Kennedy reads and shakes her head. She turns the page. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," is her single word answer which only convinces the redhead more that there is a problem. Kennedy stares at the page but her mind is elsewhere.
Willow asks again her voice soft and concerned. "Kennedy?"
"It's just-" she stops and turns to face her love. "It's too-" she struggles against tears.
"Too sterile?" She slowly nods. Willow pulls her into a comforting hug and then presses her lips to her forehead. "Want to slow down and really talk about it?"
"Maybe-" the tears fall.
"Sometimes logic is good."
"If you say so-I'm more the action girl here."
Willow smiles at her young Slayer. "I know and sometimes that's good too." She pauses and thinks about her next question. "So what's not right?"
"If we do this the baby won't be yours."
Willow takes her hand- "But it would be yours-and that's enough. I'll love it the same."
"I don't doubt that-it's just-it's hard to explain."
"Try baby."
"When Aly or Annie are playing-or or sleeping I look at them and I see you. The way they smile and that little pouty face they get- I want that."
"But that can't happen-" Kennedy looks away. Willow touches her cheek with her hand and turns it back to her. She caresses it softly. Her love and concern showing through. "It's okay, cause we'll see you."
Their eyes meet, "I'm just not sure." she whispers quietly.
"Then we'll wait till you are."
"I'm sorry Will-" tears start to fall.
"No, don't please." She hugs her tightly as the tears fall harder. "It's okay-shhhh."
The days and weeks turn to months and the babies grow and change almost daily. Kennedy is training, working on her hand to hand skills with Willow. The girls watch from the playpen. They smile and babble while the young Slayer teaches the witch how to protect herself without magic.
Willow stops her breathing is rapid- "Explain to me again why I'm doing this?-Witch here!"
"Cause you never know when someone will stop your magic with magic of their own or use them against you."
"So we're being safe-?"
Kennedy nods and they start to spar Kennedy jabs at her but she is able to deflect or dodge them. They both smile. "That's good."
Willow swings and gets in a lucky punch and smiles triumphantly. Kennedy looks surprised.
Willow comments playfully- "You're not so tough."
Kennedy gets a serious look on her face and them sweep kicks the redhead's legs out from under her. Shock crosses her face as she starts to fall. As she hits the ground Kennedy kneels at her side. "Are you okay?" Fear in her voice.
"You're so gonna pay for that Slayer. The witch pushes her backwards and she losses her balance. Willow pins her to the mat. They wrestle for control but soon the wrestling turns to caresses and then kisses.
Kennedy breaks the kiss and bites her bottom lip as she sits up straddling the redhead. "How's that?"
"Not quite paid in full-" she looks toward the girls- "But it'll have to do -for now."
Time continues to pass quickly, too quickly, as the girls approach two and a half- Kennedy begins to worry about her Slayer dreams even though they are to happen much later.
The young Slayer and the witch are lying in their bed with the girls between them. Annie and Aly both have a cold and are a little fussy. Willow is reading to them about the stars. Aly points to a picture, "That star."
"That's right," says Kennedy with a smile.
"Pretty star," adds Annie. "See stars Mama?"
"Outside Mommy?" asks Aly.
"Please Mama-out?"
Willow smiles and looks at Kennedy unsure. "It's a little cool out-"
"Please-" says Annie.
"Stars huh?" questions Willow.
"Pine-" starts Annie.
"Apple," finishes Aly.
Willow is surprised but she lets it slide. "Just till the story's over-then bed."
"Okay Mommy," they echo as they hug her tightly.
On the balcony, Kennedy and Willow are lying in the lounge chairs with a little girl on their laps. They are looking up at the sky-The children point and talk their babble almost Willowish. Soon though they are quietly listening to the story. Thumbs go into mouths as they start to close. A few minutes later they are asleep. Willow and Kennedy simultaneously kiss them on the top of their heads.
Willow speaks softly without looking at her love- her emotions showing in her face, "Pineapple huh?"
"I had to tell them something-it seemed right."
Willow takes her hand and they lace their fingers together. "Thank you-" their eyes meet.
"Teach me the stars Will-"
"The real ones-or Tara's?"
"Both-"
"See that one?" She points to her left high in the sky, "That's Orion-" Kennedy watches and points too as their voices fade.
At three and a half the twins are very much individuals. So alike yet so different. Both have brown hair with just a tint of red. Both are smart and eager to learn. They want to know why-it's their favorite question.
Annie, younger by mere minutes is the leader, she is strong and learns very quickly. She likes to look at books and can read some words. Willow has been teaching her to count as a birthday surprise for Kennedy.
Aly is ever patient in all senses of the word. She isn't easily rattled, she handles problems well. She loves puzzles and blocks and can construct anything if she sees a picture of it. Xander thinks she should be an architect-Willow just smiles. She likes numbers more then words and tends to be the more quiet of the two but when she talks you better listen, because once she's mad she's mad. Kennedy laughs and tells Willow that Aly's resolve face is scarier than hers.
The other glaring difference between the girls is their eyes. Annie's are dark like Kennedy's while Aly's are her mommy's green. The active girls keep their parents on their toes.
After much discussion and a few disagreements, the couple has decided to begin the girls' Slayer training. Willow isn't thrilled but she understands its importance. Training them in magic will wait for awhile, but meditation and history lessons have started too.
In the training room of the Academy Kennedy is holding Annie's hand as she walks across the beam on the floor. Behind them is Aly who holds the redhead's hand. The four-inch wide beam is part of the lesson. They walk slowly along the board to the other end successfully. Kennedy smiles, "Very good girls."
Willow smiles too- "Was that fun?"
"Yep!" they answer together.
"Go again?" Asks Aly.- "By myself."
Kennedy looks at Willow who seems unsure- "Maybe next time," says the young Slayer though in her heart she wants it to be now. She is anxious to know what they can really do.
"No-now Mama-" Once again the young Slayer looks from her daughter to her redhead.
Kennedy decides to take a chance, "One try."
Willow looks nervously at Kennedy. "Kennedy?"
"It won't hurt to try-"
"Okay," Willow nods. Aly goes back to the beam and Kennedy tries to help her balance.
"Me-" says the stubborn child the look on her face reflecting of her mommy's. Willow watches breathlessly then looks surprised as Annie crawls onto the beam and starts to follow her across. Both girls move slowly to the end then jump off when they finish. Kennedy can't stop the smile on her face she is so proud of her children. She picks them up and hugs them at the same time. "Do it again."
"Enough for today," says their mommy and the girls pout.
Kennedy tries to get their minds elsewhere. "Let's play on the mats."
"Okay," they say in unison and run to the other side. The young parents follow them. The girls laugh and play as Kennedy helps them roll.
"Fun Mama." Says Annie.
Willow watches amazed- "They think that's fun. I'd throw up." She states matter a factly.
"No-it is fun." Kennedy pulls Willow to the floor and rolls her forward. "See?" She smiles.
As Willow rights herself she stares at the Slayer. "You're in so much trouble." She glares at Kennedy playfully. They wrestle and Willow almost has her on her back when she feels little hands tickling her sides. "No-" she laughs and moments later she finds herself laying on the mat as Kennedy holds her down and the children tickle her even more. The redhead is laughing so hard tears start to fall and she tries to wiggle away.
In the doorway, Buffy who sometimes helps with the training watches and smiles. "Looks like you could use some help Will-"
"No-" says the witch as hands tickle again. "Yes help."
"Now which?" Asks the Slayer playfully.
"Help-" Buffy walks over to them and surprising Willow she begins to tickle her too. This causes Kennedy to laugh and she loses her hold on her redhead.
Willow manages to move away. She stops when she feels a small hand on hers and then hears Annie, "Don't leave Mommy."
Willow smiles and sits up then pulls her daughter into her lap and hugs her. "Mommy's not going anywhere." She kisses her on the top of the head. Then she playfully begins to tickle the child. Annie laughs and tries to wiggle away. Willow lets her go and the child runs across the mat only to come back with reinforcements as Willow, Kennedy, and Buffy talk. Annie and Aly jump on their mommy from two sides and the tickling starts again. She is surprised by their strength.
Kennedy and Buffy watch and the Slayer smiles, "She can't seem to stay out of trouble."
"I should help her-"
"And I should go-I'm meeting Xander for lunch. You guys want to come with?"
"Nah-we're going to the park-"
"Well see you." Buffy leaves and Kennedy goes over to her girls-
She grabs Annie and gently tosses her onto the mat then does the same with Aly. They instinctively tuck and roll. Kennedy and Willow smile surprised. "Look at that-"
"Yeah-that's good right?" asks the redhead.
"Really good Red."
The girls chime in together- "Do it again Mama please?" Kennedy without waiting for Willow's consent picks them up and throws them again. Again they roll across the mat. Willow lays on her tummy and watches as her baby Slayers play. She smiles finally believing they may actually be okay.
Wants and Wishes
At the Academy Willow is talking to Giles. "You're sure?" Asks the witch as she nervously bites her bottom lip.
Giles nods, "Quite." He smiles as he hands her the musty book. "I talked with the coven and they've agreed."
"So now it's up to us to decide?" Again he nods. She hugs him. "I don't know how to thank you."
"You just did."
She lets him go and puts the book into her bag. "Don't forget the surprise party tonight."
"I'll be there."
The door opens and Kennedy walks in with the girls. "Hey-" says Willow with a smile. The girls hug her and Kennedy kisses her lips softly.
"Hey to you too."
"How's the birthday girl?" She smiles playfully.
Kennedy rolls her eyes. "Glad I talked you out of the party."
"I should go-happy birthday Kennedy."
She smiles at the man who has come to be such a friend. "Thanks-" He hugs her-the girls hug him and he leaves. Willow takes Kennedy's hand and leads her to the couch. They sit down as Annie and Aly crawl into the desk chair and start to play at the computer. You can hear the bells and whistles of the word game as Willow and Kennedy smile. The redhead wraps her arms around her Slayer but the young woman seems far away.
"Talk to me." Says the redhead as she turns Kennedy to face her.
"I'm okay-" she says as she fights the tears that threaten to fall.
"This is me-no secrets remember?" She presses her lips to the Slayer's forehead. She pulls back concern in her eyes. "You can tell me anything."
"Just thinking."
"About?"
"Babies-"
"Me too-" confesses the witch.
"Let's call that agency." The young Slayer says.
"How about tonight we open presents and have cake then we talk about it?"
"Okay-" Kennedy turns in her arms and snuggles against her chest. Willow tightens her hold as they look toward their girls. "Think they'll like the idea?"
"Not so much at first-but eventually."
"We should talk to them-"
"Yeah-we will." The girls continue to play. "They seem so grown up."
"Not always-you should see the mess they made to day with finger paint. They got it everywhere."
Willow looks worried, "Everywhere? I just cleaned and-" Kennedy stops the impending babble with her lips as she kisses her softly.
She breaks the kiss and leans back in for another- "I cleaned it up." She kisses her again.
Later after a family birthday dinner on the town Kennedy, Willow, and the girls walk into their house. Everyone jumps from behind the furniture and yells, "Surprise!"
Kennedy looks shocked, Willow smiles. "Happy birthday." The others walk over to them and say happy birthday and hug the young Slayer.
Later as the party winds down Kennedy thanks them for their gifts and they begin to leave one by one. Buffy starts to clean up the empty paper plates and wrapping paper. Willow smiles, "You don't have to-"
"I know but I can do this while you two get the girls in bed. Then you can do your own party thing." Buffy smiles as Willow blushes.
Kennedy walks toward Annie who is asleep on the chair and picks her up. "Thanks Buffy-" She walks toward the bedroom. Willow smiles at her friend and picks up Aly from the couch. She too leaves the room.
Late that night Willow and Kennedy lye wrapped up in each others arms and not much else in front of the fireplace. "That was a nice present-" smiles the young Slayer-as she runs her fingers across Willow's bare shoulder. The redhead shivers at her touch.
"I have another present for you."
"Yeah-can't wait to see what it is." Willow reaches under the couch the cover slipping from her exposing her bare backside. "Very nice-" she touches her soft skin and Willow moans surprised.
She moves back to Kennedy's side and hands her the wrapped package. "Happy birthday." She leans in and kisses her. The kiss escalates quickly as they open and close lips against lips in a steady rhythm. Willow breaks the kiss- "Open it."
A little out of breath Kennedy licks her lips and tries to focus on the present. She begins to unwrap it but stops to kiss the redhead again. She pulls back and finishes with the wrapping. She throws it onto the floor. When she gets to the box she opens it confused. "A book?"
"You don't like it?" Her voice sounding hurt.
"No-I mean it's a book-an old book and it smells kinda funny."
"Not what you wanted?- cause sometimes things aren't what they seem-maybe you should read it."
Kennedy opens the book to the marked page and realizes it is written in a foreign language-definitely not English or Spanish. "Summarian?"
"Very good-"
Now totally confused. "Red-needing some help with the translation."
"It's a spell-well that's not exactly right. It's more of a rite-or-" she pauses trying to decide how to proceed. "I talked to Giles- and then we talked to the coven and they researched and found this."
"Still not following-"
"They found a way for us to-" she stops again. Kennedy face begins to have a smile creep across it. "If you still want-"
The young Slayer speaks, "Are you saying we can-that I can-that you and I can and it'll be-"
Willow nods, as tears fall from each pair of eyes. She speaks a single word, "Ours."
Kennedy cries as she puts the book down and pulls the redhead into a tight hug. She kisses her- "I love you," she whispers as she breaks the kiss.
"Happy birthday-baby," says Willow softly as their lips meet again.
Happy Birthday
Three months later Willow and Kennedy are wrapped in each others arms on the balcony under the stars. The blanket that covers them is tangled as they move in a steady rhythm beneath it. In the distance you hear a clock tower chime midnight and Kennedy kisses Willow softly and speaks though her voice is forced and breathy, "Hap-happy Birthday-" she returns her lips to the redhead's neck then slides her studded tongue against the soft skin.
Willow starts to spasm around her as she moans then cries out- "Kenn-kennedy-" As the waves over take her she arches against Kennedy's still moving hand. She can feel herself building again- "Oh- Goddess-I-" her words are stopped as her lover's lips find hers.
The sun shines through the open balcony door as Willow slowly awakes. She stretches and smiles as the slight aches remind her of the night before. She bites her bottom lip and turns surprised Kennedy isn't there. A puzzled look crosses her face but it leaves as she hears noises from the kitchen. She closes her eyes and waits for the woman to return.
A few minutes later the young Slayer walks in with a tray of Willow's favorite foods. Also there is a single white rose in a bud vase. She sets the tray on the nightstand and sits on the side of the bed. She smiles as she picks the rose from the vase and touches Willow's cheek with it. The redhead slowly opens her eyes. Kennedy hands her the flower, "Happy birthday."
"You said that already-and it was." They kiss softly. She notices the tray as she takes Kennedy's hand. "What's that?"
Willow sits up and Kennedy puts the tray on her lap. "Breakfast in bed."
"You didn't have to do this-last night -it was enough."
"It was just the beginning."
"Yeah?" The young Slayer nods. "I like surprises."
"I hope so." She takes a small velvet box from the top drawer of the night stand. She hands it to her- Their eyes meet and Kennedy seems nervous.
"A present?"
"Just a little one- I thought you could open it now."
"I can wait till the party."
"There's another one for the party. This one is private-just for us."
"Private-?" She moves the tray back to the night stand. She begins to slowly open the package. As she raises the lid her eyes meet Kennedy's and they instantly tear up- she smiles as she holds the Early Pregnancy Test in her hand. "Kennedy-" She hugs her tightly. "That's some present."
Kennedy leans her forehead against Willow's as she lets tears fall too, "Happy?"
Willow nods, "Yeah-I love you."
"Even when I'm fat?"
"Especially then." Their lips meet in a chaste kiss.
They break apart when they hear the front door open and then Buffy, "Anybody home?"
"In here-" calls Kennedy as they both wipe their eyes.
Annie and Aly run into the room and Jump on the bed hugging Willow. In unison they say, "Happy birthday Mommy." They each hand her a homemade card. She looks at each one and smiles at the little girls now on her lap. "They're very pretty-did you do these by yourself?"
"No-" answers Annie.
"Aunt Buffy helped," adds Aly.
Buffy smiles, "I just furnished the paper and the crayons the rest was them."
"Thank you all." She kisses her girls and smiles at Buffy.
The witch and the young Slayer are sitting on the balcony a few nights later, their arms encircle each other. "You feeling okay-or do you still have a case of the yuckies?"
"Better-"
"Want some crackers or ginger ale?"
"No-just you holding me."
Willow smiles, "I can do that." She holds her closer and presses her lips to the back of her head.
A few weeks later the witch and the young Slayer are at the zoo with their family. Willow is holding Annie's hand and Kennedy is holding Aly's. They walk through the exhibits and talk about them. They stop in front of the baby monkeys- and the redhead looks at Kennedy. "What do you think?"
"Ah-yeah now's good."
"See the babies?"
"They're cute," says Aly.
Kennedy draws their attention to another monkey, "See the one by the water?"
"She's not a baby-" says Annie.
"No but she's going to have one."
"How?"
"How?" Says the shocked witch. "Ah-well, she-they-ah-"
Kennedy smiles and tries to rescue the flustered woman, "How's not important."
"Why not?" asks Aly.
"What's important is that she'll love her baby very much." Says Willow.
"Like you and Mama love us?"
"Exactly-" smiles Willow.
"And we could have more babies and we would still love you the same," says the young Slayer.
"Always," adds the redhead.
"Understand?" asks Kennedy
"Not really," confesses Annie.
"Mama's gonna have a baby?" Willow watches their reaction.
Both girls look at Kennedy unsure, "When?"
"Not for awhile-"smiles Kennedy.
"Will it be another sister?"
"Maybe-or it could be a brother." Willow smiles at the prospect.
"I want a sister," says Annie.
"Me too," agrees her twin.
Willow and Kennedy smile at each other then look at the girls, "I'll see what I can do."
As they continue through the zoo, Aly is holding Willow's hand while Annie rides on Kennedy's shoulders. They stand looking at the lions. Willow touches Kennedy's hand and they look at each other. The redhead notices that her Slayer looks a little pale. "You okay baby?"
"Fine," she says through a forced smile.
"Annie baby give Mommy your hands." She does and the witch helps her daughter down. "Let's let Mama rest for awhile. Why don't we sit for a few minutes I'm tired." Kennedy doesn't protest as the redhead leads her to the near by bench. The four of them sit down. "Queasy tummy?" Kennedy nods. "Want to go home?"
"No-I promised them a day at the zoo-"
"It's okay mama-"says Annie.
"Mama do you have an ouchy?" asks Aly. Kennedy nods. "I'll make it better." She climbs onto Kennedy's lap and kisses her on the lips.
Kennedy forces a smile. "All better-thanks baby."
"I'm no baby Mama-I'm a big girl."
"Yes you are," agrees the young mother.
"Think we should take Mama home?" Willow looks at the girls waiting for an answer. They both nod and stand up taking Kennedy by the hands. She stands between them and Willow smiles at the scene before her. As they walk away a man in a suit, strangely familiar watches them. Aly's eyes meet his-but she turns and continues to walk away.
The demon in a man's body smiles smugly. "Soon," is his only word as he vanishes without another. The End
