Pairing: Willow/Kennedy
Summary: The babies are here and the young mothers adjust to their new lives! Picks up from the end of Slayers, Witches and Watchers
Slayers, Witches, and Wee Ones
Kennedy opens the door for the redhead who is carrying a sleeping baby in each arm. She drops the bags in the floor and turns toward her family. Willow smiles as the young Slayer simply gets lost in the babies, she slowly touches each and then biting her lip looks up into her loves green eyes. "Let me carry them up?"
"I can-"
"I know I just-okay?"
"Okay-" nods the witch as Kennedy gently takes a baby from Willow's arm. She wiggles a little but then settles into the new arms. Kennedy again stares down at the baby in her arm. Willow touches the Slayer's cheek. "Ready?"
Kennedy looks at her and nods. The redhead slowly places the baby into Kennedy's other arm. "I can't believe- sometimes it's like a dream and I'm afraid I'm going to wake up."
"Yeah-I feel that way sometimes too. But I promise it's real-they're real." She touches each baby's hand.
"Let's get them to bed-and you, you need in bed too."
"I'm fine-"
"Doctor said rest." Kennedy is a little more stern.
"Okay-you win. I'll try to sleep too." She leans forward and kisses the Slayer on the lips. "Happy?"
"For lack of a better word." She looks at the babies and then Willow. "Absolutely-" They kiss again.
A few nights later, Willow is sleeping soundly in Kennedy's arms. The young Slayer is awake she hears a baby begin to fuss. She slowly gets out of bed careful not to wake the sleeping redhead. She goes across the room and looks down at the babies. Alyson is looking back up at her and continuing to fuss. She talks quietly, "Shhh- what's wrong baby girl?" She picks her up and cuddles her to her body. "Mama's got ya-shhh." She nuzzles against Kennedy's chest and the woman smiles, though a little sad. "Sorry, but I can't help with the hungries-we'll wake mom." She walks back to the bed and lays Alyson beside the sleeping redhead and then sits beside them. She touches Willow's cheek. "Will- baby, wake up."
The sleepy witch opens her eyes unsure. "What's wrong?" She looks toward Kennedy and sees the baby between them. Kennedy is now lying on her side facing her. Willow smiles as the baby fusses. "Somebody hungry?"
"Sorry I had to wake you-but I couldn't-" she blushes slightly.
"It's okay-Annie still sleeping?"
"For now-not promising much longer." The baby latches on to Willow's exposed breast and begins to nurse. "Want me to get her up?"
"Yeah-maybe if I feed them both now, I can get another couple of hours in before they're hungry again."
Kennedy touches her redhead's face brushing her fingers against the smooth skin. Willow leans into the touch. "You sure you don't want to go to bottles?"
"No, I can do this."
"Okay-" she kisses her and gets out of bed to get Annie. She brings her back to the bed. She holds the baby as Alyson continues to nurse.
Willow watches her Slayer as she kisses the baby on the head. "You're so good with them."
"Thanks-I wish I could do more."
"You can change all the dirty diapers you want. I won't try to stop you." She smiles and it disappears as she sees the sadness in the young Slayer's eyes. "Sweetie?"
"It's nothing-"
"No-it's something, but what? Talk to me."
"It's crazy okay?-Forget it." Willow stares at her with her resolve face. "Fine-I just I get jealous cause they need you more."
"You're right." Kennedy looks at her unsure, surprised the witch has agreed with her. "You are crazy." Aly stops nursing and Willow slowly removes her from her breast. They exchange babies and Annie begins to nurse as Kennedy burps Alyson. "They don't need me more." The young Slayer looks down at the baby nursing and then back at the redhead. "There's that- but you sing them to sleep-I can't, they'd be traumatized for life if I tried. We're a team; you and me-they need us both the same, like we need them."
The baby burps loudly and Annie jumps slightly startled. They both smile. "A team huh?"
"You and me."
"You and me-always."
Kennedy smiles and begins to sing to the babies as the young mothers hold them.
Trying
The weeks pass like a blur, things change daily and the exhausted young mothers struggle to get their daughters on the same schedule. Finally after too many sleepless nights-and not for THAT reason, they succeed-both girls sleep at the same time. Willow kisses Kennedy softly and whispers so the sleep isn't interrupted, "We did it-they're sleeping." She smiles as she bites her bottom lip.
"Yea us!" Whispers the tired young Slayer. She falls face first across the bed and closes her eyes.
Willow lays beside her, her eyes also close. "Now what?"
"Now-we sleep too." Comes the expected answer.
"I'm not sure I remember how-"
Kennedy turns onto her back and snuggles against the redhead- "First we snuggle together."
Willow moves even closer- her leg goes across the young woman's. "Like this?" She questions innocently.
"Yeah-then you make sure you hold her like this." Her arms encircle Willow's waist as she pulls her completely on top of her.
"I think it's coming back to me now." She smiles and their lips meet in a soft kiss you hear a fussy cry.
"Nooo," whines Kennedy. "No-"
"Damn-" Willow kisses her again. "That's her hungry cry."
"I know-almost-" Says the frustrated Slayer. "Grrrr."
"I'll hurry-" She kisses her again then leaves to feed their baby.
Just a little later, the redhead returns with a playful smile but it fades as she realizes that her Slayer is asleep. She crawls carefully beside her and lays her head on her shoulder. "Sweet dreams." She closes her eyes.
Willow and Kennedy are giving the twins their baths in the kitchen sinks. They begin to wash their hair and then rinse it carefully-trying to avoid soap in their eyes. The babies coo softly as they watch their mothers. Annie knocks the cup from Willow's hand and it gets her wet. Kennedy laughs but stops as she sees the mock evil look on Willow's face. "You think that's funny?" Questions the witch. She gets shampoo from the baby's hair and wipes it on Kennedy's nose. Soon both women are wet and laughing as their daughters are staring at them confused.
"You are so in trouble-" states the wet witch.
"Ewww-I'm scared." Teases the young Slayer playfully.
"You should be." The glare and her tone are a little unnerving for Kennedy. She glances back at the redhead before she quietly wraps Annie in a fluffy towel and goes toward the stairs.
Willow looks unsure-afraid her words may have upset her lover. Her mind flashes to the day she used Kennedy's power to return Buffy to their dimension. Was the look on her face the same as that day? Did Kennedy think she would hurt her?-She worried as she wrapped Aly up and followed them out of the room.
In the bedroom, Kennedy and Willow are quietly diapering and dressing the girls. As they finish they turn toward each other.
The witch speaks a bit nervously- "You know I was kidding right?"
The young Slayer smiles, "I know."
"I wouldn't hurt you-" Willow's eyes tear slightly.
"Hey-we were playing-I understood." She kisses her softly.
Willow looks at the babies; "Do you think they did?" They each pick a baby up.
Kennedy takes her hand and smiles trying to reassure the redhead. "They know-."
"How?" The tear finally falls, the worry still evident on her face.
She lays the baby in the crib and then takes Aly from Willow and puts her beside her sister. "Willow they're part you, that makes them naturally smart."
"We-we have to be careful what we say-"
"Okay-"
"And we shouldn't be loud-" she reaches full babble mode, "Or-or argue-cause they-"
Kennedy interrupts as she takes her hand again- "Will, listen-we'll argue. Couples argue-they'll be okay with it. They'll know we can fight and make up."
"I like the making up part-" she smiles slightly as she turns a little red.
"So do I-wanna fight?" Asks the young Slayer as she raises her eyebrows suggestively.
"Yeah-"
"Yeah? Really?" she is surprised.
"Really but no- we can't-I mean cause well, you know-?"
"Still too soon to make up?"
"Yeah-but we could snuggle later-after they're asleep."
"I like snuggling too-" Kennedy kisses her lips. As she pulls away Annie begins to cry. Kennedy's eyes meet Willow's- "That's the hungry cry."
Willow picks up the baby- "Shhhh- it's okay."
"Aly and I are going to hang out on the balcony while you feed Annie."
"You don't think it's too cool out?" Again with the worry. "She was just all wet."
"It's summer-" She looks at the redhead unsure-
"Right-sorry-I just-well I worry."
"I know-" she kisses her again, "But you shouldn't." She goes toward the balcony.
Later, Willow is feeding Annie- she talks quietly to her as she nurses. "Mama and I were just playing before, we weren't fighting. But if we had been it would have been okay cause we love each other. Sounds kinda weird I know but you'll understand when you're older-till then you'll just have to trust me. Okay?" The baby makes a noise and the young redhead smiles.
Kennedy is reclining, her back against the chair looking up at the stars. The little girl is lying on her lap also looking up. The young Slayer talks to the baby- "See that star-" she points toward it. "That's your mommy's favorite, she calls it "Big Pile of Crackers."- her voice fades as she continues to talk with her daughter.
The wind picks up and the air gets a slight chill. The young Slayer decides to take the baby inside. The little girl begins to get fussy and Kennedy tries to calm her as they go into the room. "I know you got a case of the hungries, mommy will fix that." She smiles as she looks at the scene before her. The redhead is sleeping-Annie is still nursing contentedly. She goes to the bed and touches Willow's cheek. "So tired-" She lays Aly on the bed and removes Annie from Willow. She puts the baby on her shoulder and burps her. Aly, though hungry, watches as the Slayer walks across the room. She tucks the baby in the crib and returns to her wife and daughter. She gently fixes the redhead's shirt and picks up Aly. "Sorry baby girl, but the kitchen is closed for now. Let's see what we can do." She walks toward the rocking chair picking up the pacifier on the way. The baby is fussy as she sits down with her and gives her the pacifier. "I know it's not the same-but for now okay? Let Mommy sleep for just a little while?" She rocks the baby and she starts to settle. Soon she is content and sleeping, Kennedy looks down at her child proud of her accomplishment. "Look at you-"
Willow wakes up to find the bed empty. She panics a little as she stands but stops as she sees Kennedy across the room. As she walks toward her she can see that the young Slayer is sleeping. The baby is awake in her arms-pacifier still in her mouth-just looking around the room. The redhead smiles as she stops in front of them. "What a good baby-are you hungry?" She tries to take her from Kennedy's arms but her grip on the baby tightens. "Kennedy?" whispers the witch softly. "Wake up-it's me."
Kennedy opens her eyes and stretches. She smiles as she sees her then let's her take the baby. "What time is it?" She asks still a bit disoriented.
"Late-or I guess early. You fell asleep-why didn't you come to bed?"
"She was fussy-"
"Hungry-?"
"Yeah-but I didn't want to wake you."
Willow smiles, "I'm okay-"
"You do everything."
"We share-you're as tired as I am."
"Maybe-but if you pumped bottles I could feed them at night and you could rest."
The baby starts to fuss at the mention of feeding. She nuzzles against Willow and Kennedy looks a little sad. The redhead notices but before she can say anything the baby is crying. "Kennedy-"
"I know later." Kennedy stands and walks toward the door.
"Sweetie?"
"I need to- I just; I'll be back." She leaves.
Willow looks down at the crying baby. "It's okay-not a fight-she needs air-or something." She walks to the bed with the baby and gets ready to feed her.
Kennedy is walking through the streets of the town. She stops at a pub and goes inside. She orders a drink and spends the next thirty minutes nursing it. Her mind is swimming with so many emotions playing through it. She was upset-but with whom? Willow? Herself? It didn't make sense-why was feeding the babies so important to her? She takes a sip of her drink. The little voice in her head answers her question- 'You're jealous-deal with it.' Kennedy answers out loud without realizing it. "No I'm not-" she seems sure then her words wavier- "Am I? _That's just crazy."
At the house Willow is sitting in the chair, she has fallen asleep. Kennedy walks in and over to her. She looks a little sad as she touches the redhead's cheek. She whispers softly, "I'm sorry-" She starts to walk away to check on the girls but stops as she feels Willow's hand touch hers. "Hey-"
Willow looks up into her chocolate eyes, "Hey-you okay?"
"Yeah-" Willow stands in front of her and puts her hands on Kennedy's shoulders. They move slowly to her face. The young Slayer forces a smile.
"That yes sounds a lot like no."
"It's late-we should sleep. We'll talk in the morning."
The redhead wraps her arms around the young Slayer's neck and then kisses her softly. She leads her Slayer to the bed and they snuggle together. They are quiet for a few minutes Willow listens but the familiar breathing pattern of sleep doesn't come for her lover. "Can't sleep either?"
"No-" she turns in the redhead's arms to face her.
"Wanna talk now?"
"It's hard to explain. I think I'm jealous-"
"Of the babies?"
"No-of you."
"I don't understand."
"I'm not sure I do-but when you feed them it's so personal. You are so connected with them. I want that too Will- I want to feel what it's like. Does it make sense or am I just crazy?"
"You're not crazy." She kisses her softly. "You should have said something sooner."
"I did-"
"But I thought you were just trying to help-that you thought I couldn't -by myself. I was trying to show you that I could."
"I know you can-you can do anything. I just need-" Their lips meet and as the redhead pulls back she smiles. "That too." Smiles the young Slayer. Willow blushes slightly- she presses the Slayer onto her back and she leans in for another kiss. This one is more heated-the redhead runs her tongue along the young Slayer's lip and Kennedy opens her mouth to her. The Slayer moans as the witch's tongue caresses hers and her hands start to roam her body. She finally breaks the kiss, as air becomes an issue. "Wow-but we can't the doctor-"
"We can't, but I can-for you-" she kisses her again and her lips move to the young Slayer's neck.
She moans again her body reacting to Willow as always but she pulls the redhead up and their eyes meet. Willow is unsure. "As much as I want-I want it to be for both of us-together. I can wait." Her hands travel Willow's body and she closes her eyes. "Okay?"
She opens her eyes and they meet Kennedy's. The young Slayer moves onto her side and Willow rolls on her back. "Okay-I love you."
"I know and I love you. Sleep now."
"Sleep? Not if you don't move that hand-" She blushes slightly as Kennedy smiles.
"I could move it here-?" she traces circles on the bare skin around her belly button. Willow's eyes close as she gasps slightly. "Or here-?" her hand slides up and her fingers brush against her breast. The redhead moans. Kennedy smiles but before she can excite the redhead further, they hear a baby cry. "How do people ever have second babies?" She moves her hand from Willow.
The redhead smiles- "I'm not sure-but you have the next one okay?" The words are out before she realizes it.
Kennedy is surprised not only by the words of her wife but also by the smiles that crosses her own face at the thought. "I'm not opposed." Willow smiles, then gets up to get the crying baby.
She brings Aly in and they sit on the bed next to Kennedy. The young Slayer smiles at her daughter as she fusses. "She's had enough of the pacifier-"
"Can't blame her." She kisses her on the head. The redhead hands the baby to Kennedy- "Hold her while I- you know." She begins to unbutton her pajama top but stops. "Kennedy do you want to-" She stops-
"She's not going to wait until you pump for a bottle."
"I could- there's a spell- she could nurse from you."
"How?"
"It's easier to do than explain-but it's safe."
"Wow-ah- yeah okay."
"It's a onetime thing-a combining."
"What do we do?"
"Just ah-give me your hand." They join hands. "Now, close your eyes." They close their eyes and Willow recites the words of the spell once, twice and then three times. The room begins to glow and a slight breeze travels through it. The witch opens her eyes. She smiles at the young Slayer-and touches her shoulder. "Open your eyes Kennedy."
Kennedy looks at the baby then at Willow, "Did it work?"
"I think so-one way to find out." She begins to pull the shirt from Kennedy's pants but stops as the baby fusses. Kennedy lays her on the bed between them and the redhead pull the shirt off of her Slayer. She slides her hands around and unhooks the girl's bra and it falls to the Slayer's lap. Willow moves it as Kennedy picks up the baby and she nuzzles against her breast. Willow smiles, "You might have to help her-" her words stop as the baby latches on and starts to nurse. Kennedy looks down at Aly and tears fill her eyes. Willow fights her own tears. "You okay?"
Kennedy nods, "It's-it's amazing." She traces her finger on the baby's hand and arm. She looks up at Willow and the redhead smiles. "It's so surreal." Willow nods and kisses her on the forehead gently. "Thank you."
Annie cries and they both laugh- "I got this one if you're okay?"
"I'm great-"
She gets up and starts across the room but stops to watch Kennedy with Aly. The young Slayer is lost in the child. Willow smiles.
Making Time
Kennedy tucks the babies into their crib, they are sleeping contentedly. Their tummies full, as was their day. The young family spent the day with the pediatrician. Their six-week check ups went well, the girls were at the high end of all the scales. The doctor seemed pleased with their weight and their sleeping habits, which pleased Willow as well. It comforted the young mother to know she was doing something right. Kennedy kisses each baby and walks across the room. She smiles as she sees the redhead is asleep also. She crawls in beside her and spoons her body around her wife. She kisses her shoulder softly as she whispers, "You're amazing." She holds the witch closer as she closes her eyes. Willow is staring across the room; she bites her bottom lip nervously.
A few days later, Willow has an appointment of her own. As she gets ready, Kennedy plays with the babies. Willow smiles at the three of them. "You sure you'll be okay?"
Kennedy smiles at the redhead- "We'll be fine right girls?-We're going to workout a little and then just chill and watch cartoons."
"Sounds fun-maybe I should just stay and play too."
"Sorry-but you have to get checked out.-So we can have our own fun." She raises her eyebrows suggestively and then kisses her softly.
"I really hate doctors."
"I know but it'll be worth it."
"I guess."
Feigning hurt, Kennedy makes a sad face, "You guess? Has it been so long you've forgotten?" She kisses the redhead again with more passion as her hands roam Willow's body with a purpose.
She moans and then pulls out of the kiss- "Haven't forgotten."
"Good to know."
Willow looks at her again unsure- "You have Buffy's number?"
"Yes-now go." Willow nods and leaves after kissing each baby.
At the doctor's office Willow is in the exam room. She has finished the check up and is sitting on the table waiting for the doctor to return. The door opens and the doctor smiles. "Sorry to have to leave-it's baby day- I have three patients in labor-now." She sits on the stool in front of the redhead. She flips through the charts. "The exam was fine-I don't see any reason you can't return to your normal routine."
"Normal routine-that's-that's good."
"You have questions?"
"By normal routine do you mean I can-" she pauses as she turns a light shade of red. "That Kennedy and I-"again her voice trails off.
"No reason you can't-" she smiles.
Willow speaks hesitantly, "Except-I-"
"You're a little nervous?"
"My body has changed so much and I-what if-never mind." She shakes her head.
"What you're feeling is normal-take your time set your own schedule-"
"An-and what, Kennedy just waits?"
"If you ask her to-yeah-talk to her tell her how you feel."
"I'll try-"
The doctor's pager goes off again. "I need to go-call if you need to talk." Willow nods as the doctor leaves.
Kennedy watches from the doorway as Willow finishes feeding Aly and lays her in the crib next to her sleeping sister. She stands over the babies just watching them and smiles leaning into Kennedy's embrace as she feels her arms encircle her. Kennedy speaks softly; "I ran you a hot bath."
"Reading my mind again?" Smiles the redhead.
"I try-" Willow turns in her arms and kisses her lips tenderly. "Want some company?" She asks as she breaks the kiss and looks up into Willow's eyes.
"Ah-I- sure." She takes Kennedy's hand and they start toward the bathroom.
In the bathroom Willow is hesitant to undress, Kennedy is unsure- "Something not right Will?"
"Ah- the babies, what if they cry and we don't hear them?" She looks worried.
"We'll hear them-" Willow doesn't seem convinced. Kennedy touches her cheek and smiles. "I'll get the monitor-okay?"
"Good-okay." Kennedy leaves. Willow begins to quickly undress.
The young Slayer goes into the room and picks up the monitor, but also stops to watch them sleep. She smiles down at them- "We'll be right in the next room." She leaves.
When she walks into the bathroom she finds the redhead lying in the bubbles, her head resting on the back of the tub and her eyes closed. She walks over to the side and slips off her clothes.
Later the witch and the Slayer are still soaking in a tub full of soapy bubbles. Willow is resting her back against Kennedy's chest. Kennedy kisses her neck and Willow smiles. "You haven't said much about your check up, everything go okay?"
Willow laces her fingers with Kennedy's. "I hate doctors-but the check up was good-"
"Sooo, we can-" she stops her sentence, her lips going to Willow's shoulder.
"She ah-said that it was up to me-"
"Makes sense."
"So you wouldn't be upset if we didn't-tonight I mean?"
Kennedy turns the witch to face her, she kisses her lips then speaks, "I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to-I always want you Willow-but the when is totally your call."
Willow smiles a little sad- "I wish-"
"Shhh-" she kisses her lips softly. Willow's hand slides down Kennedy's wet body and the Slayer moans into the kiss. She pulls back and puts her hand on Willow's stopping her movement.
"Let me-?" Asks the redhead her voice soft and unsure.
Kennedy struggles to resist the pleasure Willow is offering- She leans forward and kisses her on the forehead. "I want us-the first time should be us, together." Willow turns again and rests against her Slayer. Kennedy looks a little worried.
Two weeks later a very cranky Slayer is working out in the training room. The baby monitor is on the table in the corner, she is babysitting while Willow goes to the store. She continues to pummel the heavy bag. She hears a baby cry and stops- she looks toward the monitor and waits to see if the baby cries again. When she doesn't hear anything she turns back to the bag-but before she can continue her workout she hears Willow's voice.
"It's okay Annie-where's mama? Huh? I bet I know- taking out her frustration on her punching bag." Kennedy smiles at how well her wife knows her. "She's trying so hard to understand-" the baby coos- "But how can she when I don't?" Kennedy begins to take off her hand wraps. "I want her so badly it's just-well I don't look like I did before-what if-" Kennedy was out of the room with the monitor before she could finish the sentence.
After dinner Willow is sitting on the bed with Aly in her arms. The baby is nursing and watching her mommy. Kennedy is putting Annie to bed and talking to her in a whisper. "I've got big plans tonight-so be a good little girl-cool?" The baby coos at her and Kennedy smiles.
Willow looks toward them as she tries to burp the baby. Kennedy sits beside her on the bed- "Hey-you okay?" She touches Kennedy's face and the Slayer takes a deep breath.
"Sure-ah let me do that, you take a break."
"A break huh?"
"Yeah-take the rest of the night for you. Sit on the balcony watch the stars."
"Sounds great-"
"We'll be fine-bottles are in the refrigerator right?"
"Yeah." She seems unsure.
"Then get out of here." She smiles.
"I love you."
"I know- and I love you." Willow touches the baby's cheek as Kennedy takes her from her arms. "How's mama's girl?" The baby babbles as Kennedy smiles at her.
The redhead leans forward and kisses the young Slayer's lips. "Thank you-" She stands and goes onto the balcony. Kennedy watches her and smiles.
Once on the balcony, Willow stands amazed. It is shining with candles covering it. To the side, is a small table with a kettle of tea on a small burner; next to it is a blanket that has several pillows on it. She walks toward the table and sees a folded note. She picks it up and opens it. As she reads a single tears slides down her face and she smiles. Kennedy's voice plays in her head as she reads the words; "I can never thank you enough for our family-but I'll spend my life trying." She kisses the paper and places it back on the table as more tears fall.
"When did you do this?" She whispers- her voice laced with emotion.
The young Slayer is standing in the doorway hours later watching the redhead as she sleeps cuddled up with her favorite pillow. She smiles and walks out and over to her. She kneels beside her and touches her cheek, Willow opens her eyes. "So, you like your surprise?"
"Loved my surprise." She sits up and kisses the younger woman. "The babies okay?"
"Sleeping-"
"Wanna snuggle?" Asks the redhead as she wiggles her eyebrows suggestively.
"Always wanna snuggle with you."
She lays down and Willow lays beside her. Kennedy spoons protectively around her, her arms hold her close. "Good?"
"Mmmm this is nice." She puts her arms around Kennedy's. "So you think they'll sleep awhile?"
"Till they get hungry again."
"When did you feed them?"
Kennedy turns to look at the clock and Willow reverses their positions. She now has the young Slayer wrapped in her arms. "About thirty minutes ago."
"Then we have some time-"she kisses the young Slayer's shoulder.
"Lots of time," is her breathy answer as the redhead's hands caress her body. "Mmmm-you sure you're okay with this?"
"Pretty sure-"
"Say the word and we'll stop." Her hand slides down Willow's thigh.
"No stopping-well eventually stopping, but not until-" her sentence is left unfinished as Kennedy turns and kisses her. As the kisses becomes more passionate Willow presses her body into the young Slayer's and gets her on her back. She sits above her, straddling her hips as she reaches for the Slayer's shirt. Kennedy sits up and together they remove the clothes. Willow leans forward and kisses her neck and then her shoulder. Her hands travel Kennedy's body as she leans into the touch.
The young Slayer is fighting not to get lost in the feelings Willow is causing, wanting to please the redhead as well. She begins to slowly inch her shirt over her head. As she tosses it away, Willow starts to cover herself with her arms. "No-I need to see you, feel your body against mine." The witch moves her arms to her sides. "So beautiful Red-" She kisses her again and pulls her down on top of her.
Later as the young couple is racing toward yet another release you hear a baby cry. "Hungry cry?" Asks the young Slayer fighting to steady her words.
"No-wet cry." Comes the out of breath response of the redhead. Fingers move in and out of bodies faster as they listen to the cries increase. Willow moans as she begins to spasm around her Slayer and Kennedy cries out above the sounds of the baby as she is hit hard. In each other's arms the begin to slowly return to earth. Their breathing is still labored and both have their eyes closed.
The baby continues to cry. "I'll get her-"
"Like you can move anymore than I can-" She smiles.
"I'm a Slayer."
"True-but not even you can recover that fast after-" Willow's words die as she blushes.
Kennedy smiles, "After four of the best orgasms of my life?"
"Ummm-yeah, wow!"
"Think she'll settle down before Annie wakes up too?" As if on cue the other baby joins in the fuss. "Guess that's a no."
Firsts
Willow is standing at the crib looking down at the sleeping babies. Her eyes are sad as she slowly, softly touches each baby's hand. She sighs as she feels arms encircle her then leans into Kennedy's body as she hears her speak. "You don't have to go-if you're not ready, Giles will understand."
"I know, but I have responsibilities-they need me there to teach and train. I'm okay-it's just hard." She fights to keep tears at bay.
"Yeah-"
"I've never been away from them for a whole day." She still touches each child.
"Want me to bring them by at lunch? We could go to the park."
The redhead smiles and turns in Kennedy's arms to face her. She nervously bites her bottom lip- "You'd do that for me?"
"For us-" Willow leans in and kisses her tenderly. Their eyes meet as they break the kiss. "So, we'll see you at noon."
"I can make it till noon-I think-maybe." Again she looks sad.
"You can call and check on them." Kennedy pulls her into a tight hug and kisses the side of her head.
"What if I miss something?" Kennedy looks at her unsure as their eyes meet again. "They could sit up-or say their first words-"
Kennedy smiles, "Willow they're barely three months old, that's not going to happen-not today."
"I guess but they'll do something cute-like when they blow little spit bubbles."
"If they do, I'll tell you all about it at lunch."
"I can do this." Willow's resolve face surfaces. The young Slayer nods and smiles.
At the Academy Willow is standing in front of her class. About twelve Wicca in training listen as she explains the philosophy of the religion to them. The youngest in the class, Erin, raises her hand and Willow nods as she listens to her questions.
Later, Willow is sitting in the same room only now it is empty. There is a soft knock and she turns to face it, she forces a smile when she sees Giles standing there. "How are classes going?"
"It was a little strange at first, but good now. Like I never left."
"Good-very good. How are you doing?"
"Honestly?" The former Watcher turned counsel leader nods. "I miss them, think about them all the time. I'm not focused. Good thing today's all lecture, I would have had trouble with demonstration. Things would have probably gone all kapouly."
"Yes, I imagine they could have."
"But tomorrow will be better." He smiles as he sees her face light up. He turns to see Kennedy with the babies. "Hey-awe-look how cute." She moves toward them.
Kennedy smiles playfully, "You're cute too.-But not in front of Giles, you'll make me blush."
"Not you them-" Willow realizes what she said. "I mean you are-but I wasn't-" She is rattled and Giles smiles. "I missed them." She offers as explanation for her words.
He looks down at each baby and his smile brightens. "I'll leave you all to visit." He leaves.
Willow's eyes meet Kennedy's and the young Slayer smiles, "Hey baby girls-mommy missed you." She takes Annie in her arms and plays with her-the baby smiles. Kennedy puts Aly in her arms as well and the contented redhead just watches them.
As the weeks pass leaving them is less difficult-their daily visits to the Academy help greatly. Willow plays with them as Kennedy trains or they meet for lunch in the park. The girls are growing and each day seems to bring with it something new for the young mothers.
Willow is getting dressed while Aly plays in the crib; Kennedy has Annie in the living room feeding her. The baby starts to fuss and the witch looks her way. She sees that the toy she had is now in the floor. "One minute baby and Mommy will get it for you." But as the words leave her mouth she stares in amazement at the floating toy. It lands in the baby's hand as Willow moves quickly to her side. "Did you just-? How could you-?" She is still in a state of disbelief when Kennedy enters the room with Annie.
The young Slayer senses something isn't right. "Red?-" Willow picks up the baby and holds her tightly. "Willow?"
The witch forces a smile, "Hey."
"You okay?" She touches her arm concerned.
"Ah-yeah she just-" She stops not sure she should tell the young Slayer what she saw. 'There's a simple explanation-my daughter did not just levitate that toy.' She pauses and then starts again. "We were just playing."
Kennedy doesn't press the issue, but she knows something is going on with her redhead. "So, want to meet in the park today?"
"Why don't you bring them to the Academy."
"Okay-we'll be there."
Willow leans in and kisses her softly. "Can't wait." She smiles and so does the young Slayer.
At the Academy, Willow dismisses her class early and is standing outside Giles' office door. She starts to knock but stops as she decides not to tell him either. The door opens and he sees her there- "Willow-?"
"Hey-" she says as she forces a smile. He looks at his watch- She begins to explain. "I let them go early-a reward sort of-"
"Did you need something?"
"Kinda-can we talk?"
"Always Willow, come inside." She walks into his office and he closes the door. He sits at his desk and she wanders the room picking up objects then putting them down. "I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there's a problem?"
She sits down in front of him. "The prophecy-"
"Did something happen?"
"Oh yeah-Aly can float her toys back into her crib." She looks up into his eyes, her face full of uncertainty.
"I didn't expect-not so soon."
"Neither did I- she's four months old Giles-I didn't have that much power until I was seventeen."
"We knew they would have great power-"
"She's t-too young, there has to be something we can do. Maybe a binding spell-just till she's old enough to learn how to-" She pauses then speaks a little sarcastically. "I don't know-talk maybe, or walk-is that asking too much? This can't happen."
"Willow I know this is upsetting-" She looks down with tears threatening to fall.
"She's just a baby."
He moves beside her and hugs her as she cries. "I'll talk with the coven research the prophecy more thoroughly."
She tries to stop the tears. "I'm sorry."
"It's understandable-how did Kennedy take the news?"
"Kennedy-ah-she-I didn't-"
"She doesn't know?" The witch shakes her head. "She must know the danger this brings-"
"It just-I was surprised and confused-and I don't know how to tell her."
"Would you like me to?"
She forces a smile at his offer, "No, it should be me. I'll tell her tonight."
There is a knock at the door and Giles speaks, "Come in-" the door opens and the young Slayer enters with the babies.
"I thought I might find you here-" She smiles at the redhead.
Willow smiles back then looks at Giles, "So you'll get started on that thing and then I'll meet you here before I leave today?"
"Of course-I'll check all of my sources."
"All?" Her thoughts go to Ethan Rayne and without realizing it she mentally asks the former Watcher now counsel chair. "Even Ethan?"
"Yes-"
"Great-"
Kennedy looks unsure. "Something wrong?"
"No," answers the witch hoping her words are true.
That night Kennedy is trying to dress Annie when the baby picks up the lotion from the changing table and throws it. Kennedy just stares unsure at first then she slowly smiles. "Nice throw- oh wow-a baby Slayer-wait till I tell you mommy."
Willow walks in with Aly wrapped in a towel. "Tell mommy what?"
"Willow we have a baby Slayer-" The young mother smiles with pride.
"And a baby witch." She looks at the baby in her arms and then at her Slayer.
"A witch and a Slayer- this is so cool."
"Cool? That was not the first word that came to mind."
"You're freaked?"
"A little-I mean they're babies. I want them to be normal babies."
"They are, they can just do cool stuff." Kennedy finishes dressing the baby and then leads Willow to sit on the bed. She sits beside her and they lay the babies between them. She touches the redhead's cheek then takes her hand in hers and they lace their fingers together. They look down at their children. "You know most couples look at their kids and think wow-they can change the world. Annie and Aly- they really can and they will."
Willow wipes at the tears that fall down her face. She smiles, "Have I told you how much I love you?"
"Yeah," answers the Slayer shyly, "But you could show me."
Willow leans in and kisses her lips softly. "Let me get the super heroes to bed and I will." She says as they break the kiss.
"I'll dress Aly and you feed Slayer Jr."
"We'll meet you on the balcony."
"You got a deal."
Dreams May Come
Kennedy and Willow are on the Academy lawn. They are sitting on a picnic blanket with the twins. Willow is leaning against a tree and Kennedy is lying with her head in the redhead's lap. They are holding hands watching as the little girls, now about five months old, both manage to keep themselves in a sitting position. Willow smiles and squeezes Kennedy's hand, "They did it." At her words, Aly falls over but then pulls herself to her knees. The young Slayer sits up as she realizes how close her daughter is to another first. The little witch lunges forward and crawls a few steps before she falls back onto her tummy. Annie watches and does the same thing. Kennedy looks at Willow who is smiling.
"They crawled Will-"
"Yeah-pretty amazing-huh?"
Kennedy fights tears- "Amazing-" She reaches down and picks up Aly, then kisses her before setting her down again. Annie crawls to her and she picks her up too, kisses her and sets her down beside her sister. Willow puts her hand on the young Slayers back. She turns and kisses the redhead softly.
As they break the kiss, Willow asks breathlessly, "What was that for?"
"Everything." Answers the woman softly as she laces her fingers with the redhead. Then repeats her word. "Everything."
Willow puts her arms around Kennedy and pulls her closer. Together they watch their children as they try again to crawl.
A few days later a tired Kennedy watches Willow as she gets ready to go to work. The redhead turns to her and walks to sit on the bed beside her. "Sure you don't want me to call Buffy-she said she'd watch them."
"I'm okay just a little tired."
"I still think you should see a doctor-"
"Would you?"
"Well-ah-no. But you're not me-you're much braver." She smiles trying to play to Kennedy's pride.
"Nice try-but go to work."
Willow leans down and kisses her lips gently. "Call if you need me to come home."
"Always need you here." Willow smiles. "But I know you need to go-so stop worrying and go-" Kennedy smiles.
"Okay-but I'll call and check on you." Willow kisses her again and then leaves.
Kennedy closes her eyes and lets out a slow deep breath. A scene flashes through her mind-a demon chasing the babies. Her eyes fly open. She gets up and runs through the door that connects her bedroom to the nursery. She sees the babies sleeping peacefully and she goes to the rocking chair between them and sits down. She watches them sleep.
The weekend comes and they have their monthly movie night. This time it is Willow and Kennedy's turn to host the event. The television is blaring as Xander, Buffy, Dawn, and Willow watch the movie. Kennedy has fallen asleep in Willow's arms. Willow softly brushes her hair from her eyes; she doesn't notice Buffy looking at them concern evident on her face.
Xander sits up, "Is there more-"
"Shhh-h" says the redhead trying to make sure Kennedy isn't disturbed.
Xander makes a face and lowers his voice. "Sorry-"
Buffy turns to face them. "Should we go?"
"No-just she hasn't been sleeping well, so-with the quite okay?"
"No problem." Answers Xander with a smile.
"Dreams?" Questions the Slayer.
"How'd you know?" asks Willow.
Buffy shrugs. Dawn starts another movie. Then Xander stands, "I'm getting another drink-anyone else want one?"
"I'll help-I could use a snack." They leave the room.
Willow gently lifts Kennedy's head from her lap and stands too. "I'm going to check the girls."
Dawn points to the monitor- "I think they're still sleeping."
Willow rolls her eyes- then smiles, "I miss them." She goes toward the nursery. Dawn smiles.
In the kitchen Buffy is pouring chips into a bag while Xander gets four drinks from the refrigerator. "So- you been dreaming too?"
Buffy nods- "Yeah-"
"We talking another apocalypse?"
"Not exactly."
"But it's bad?"
"The worst-they get the babies."
"Babies as in Annie and Aly?" Questions Xander worry full in his voice. Buffy nods. "You think Kennedy's having the dreams too."
"Probably-Giles is checking into it that's why he's not here."
"Ethan?"
"He's meeting him tonight."
Giles is sitting in a dimly lit pub waiting not so patiently on Ethan. Finally he walks to the table and slides in across from the ex-watcher.
"Surprised to hear from you Ripper."
"I suppose you are at that. I need some information-my sources say you can help."
"Do they now-"
"I need to know more about the prophecy."
"Indeed you do-." He smirks at Giles. "They would be almost six months old now-am I right?"
"Yes-"
"How much is it worth to you?"
Giles clears his throat then forces his voice to stay calm. "You would be compensated based on the usefulness of the information."
"From you?- You my old friend don't have what this is worth."
"I am not your friend-and don't worry I will get what you need."
"Doubtful-but I'll meet you tomorrow with the books-you bring the cash, one quarter of a million."
"That's not possible I'll need-"
"Maybe not for you but there are others who can manage it quite easily."
Giles reaches across the table and grabs him by the throat. His words are calm but terse-to the point. "How much is your life worth?"
Ethan surveys his predicament, "You have a point-"
Across the pub a man watches.
A restless Kennedy is sleeping in Willow's protective arms. The redhead is spooned around her-her arms tight against her waist. The young Slayer begins to mumble, nightmares again invading her sleep. Images flash through her mind-blurry at best. Fragmented pieces that don't quite connect. Then, without warning the picture comes into focus. She can now see a young girl of five or six trying to get away from a man in a suit. She tries to help but she is only a spectator in the dream unable to do anything but watch. She hears the young girl scream, "Mama!" With that single word Kennedy realizes the child is her own. Willow runs into the room followed by Aly- together they use their magic to break Annie free from his grasp. The man smiles and grabs Annie in his other arm. A burst of light from across the room holds the witch frozen- she sees a demon who teleports the man and the children from the room. As they leave the spell holding the redhead ends-she falls to the floor helpless and screams in anger. She tries to get to her feet, Kennedy sees her face. Again the young Slayer feels fear-the green eyes of her love are gone replaced by cold, black ones- pure evil.
Kennedy sits up in bed wide awake- "No!" she screams as she shakes uncontrollably. "No-this can't happen. Willow wake up too and reaches for the light. Before she can turn back around, Kennedy is through the adjoining door and into the nursery.
The young Slayer is standing beside the babies' beds. She trembles, tears falling as she looks at the sleeping girls. Willow wraps her arms around Kennedy's waist from behind and then lays her head on her back. "Baby?"
Kennedy's voice sounds so small and younger than her years as she tries to explain. "They took them-and I -I couldn't stop them."
The witch tightens her hold on her young love as she kisses her shoulder. "It was just a dream baby."
Her next words shock the redhead, "A Slayer dream Will-"
"Slayer dream? -How could you tell?" Her voice is also showing fear.
"I just can-I don't know how."
"Could you tell who they were?"
"Haven't seen them before-one demon, one human. They had powers-magic; they were all just gone."
"But they're not-" She turns the young woman to face her. "They're here, safe with us." She kisses her lips softly and then turns the woman again so now she can see the babies. "See?" They are both sleeping peacefully.
She watches them. "Yeah-"
"Come to bed-you need to sleep."
"In awhile-maybe." She sits in the rocking chair between the beds. Willow sits in the chair next to her. She reaches out and takes the young Slayer's hand their fingers lacing without thought. "I couldn't stop them." Tears begin to fall again, Willow holds her hand tighter.
"We'll find a way-I promise." Whispers the redhead.
At the Academy the next day- Giles, Buffy, Xander, Dawn, Willow, Kennedy and the babies are there. The twins are in the playpen by the table where everyone else is gathered. The table is piled high with books. Kennedy slams down the book she is reading and stands. She looks toward Willow- "We're wasting time-there's nothing here."
Willow touches her arm and the young Slayer turns toward her, her eyes are filled with tears of frustration and fear. They fall slowly though she tries to stop them. She turns away trying to hide them from the others. They are surprised but turn back to their books to give her privacy. The redhead stands beside Kennedy and pulls her into a hug. The battle with control is lost completely as the young mother cries. She begins to shake as the tears fall faster and harder. The more she tries to stop, regain control, the more it is lost, the stress and exhaustion win and she falls apart in Willow's arms. "Shhhh- it's okay." She looks into Kennedy eyes and then presses her lips against her forehead. "We'll get the books from Ethan tonight and everything will be all right."
"The dreams-"
"The dreams warned us-that's what they do-now we can stop them from happening."
Buffy walks toward them, "She's right the dreams can be changed."
"Okay?" Asks Willow as she kisses her lips softly. Her eyes searching Kennedy's. The young Slayer nods.
"Mama-" Kennedy looks toward the playpen to see Annie standing up, one hand reaching for her. "Mama." repeats the baby Slayer.
Kennedy takes a deep breath and wipes her eyes. She forces a smile. "She pulled herself up-" Willow nods and smiles, as they walk to the baby. The young Slayer picks up Annie and holds her tightly then kisses her on the top of the head. "Hey baby girl-"
Later that night they are still researching. Giles is talking about his meeting with Ethan- "What if he doesn't show?" asks Dawn.
Kennedy who is feeding Aly responds, "I'll hunt him down."
Willow looks at her surprised. "He'll show," says the redhead as she continues to discreetly nurse Annie.
"I'll get the books and come back here. We'll start fresh in the morning."
"I stay if you want." Says Dawn- "Start tonight."
"No-sleep would be better."
"You sure you can handle him? I could go with you." The older Slayer adds.
"No- Ethan knows better than to try to double cross me-I'll be fine." He leaves with his briefcase.
Xander who has been silent turns his eyes from Giles and back to Kennedy who is now burping Aly. "Hey Kennedy-walk with me?"
She is unsure- "The babies?"
"They'll be fine- Buffy and Willow can handle the Super Duo- and Dawnie." He smiles.
Willow nods at Kennedy and the young mother hands the baby to Buffy who starts patting her on the back. She and Xander leave quietly.
Willow puts Annie on her shoulder and begins to pat her as well. The babies burp in unison and Dawn laughs. The teenager begins to put books back on the shelves.
Buffy looks at Willow and sees her worry for the first time. "Will you know I'll do everything I can."
Willow nods and tears start to fill her eyes. "It's too soon-I mean I knew there would be people-demons who would try to take them-but I thought they would be older."
"They will be-Kennedy said they were five or six-that's a long time. We can teach them so much."
"How to fight?"
"How to protect themselves."
"I hate fighting."
"I know but we have to-they have to." The redhead nods. "You can teach magic-protection spells."
Willow almost smiles, "By five, they may be teaching me." Buffy looks confused. "Aly can already put a force field around her toys."
"Really?" Willow smiles, pride evident- "So see, not so much to worry about. We've got it covered."
Dawn who is by a window shelving books stops when she sees a shadow in the window, "Buffy!"-the teenager runs toward them. "There's someone outside."
Buffy hands the baby to Dawn and looks around the room for a weapon. She sprints across and picks up a crossbow. "Stay behind me." They move behind her.
Outside Xander and Kennedy are walking and talking. "What haven't you told us about the dream?"
"What do you mean?"
"Kennedy, you know she can tell when something upsets you."
"In the dream-" tears begin to return- "when the babies are taken-" Kennedy closes her eyes and starts again. "Willow-her eyes-"she stops.
Xander sees Kennedy's fear then understands the secrets- "She's not our green-eyed girl?"
Tears fall as Kennedy shakes her head. "I could lose her too."
"Nah-" answers the man confidently. "Not gonna happen-she's in control more than ever."
"I hope you're right."
"I am-but you gotta tell her." Kennedy nods and Xander hugs her.
"Tonight." Adds the young Slayer.
Kennedy pulls away from Xander as she hears Willow's words in her mind. "Kennedy-help us-Xander!"
Xander gets the message too and they run back toward the research room. Once inside they see Buffy and Dawn fighting off the attack of three demons. Willow is safely behind them protecting the babies with a force field. Xander and Kennedy join the fight and the soon the demons are dead. Willow drops the force field amd Kennedy runs to her in time to take the babies as the drained witch slips to the ground. Xander helps Willow to a chair and Buffy stands beside her. Willow's eyes open. "Kennedy?"
"Right here baby-it's okay." She kneels in front of the redhead with the babies in her arms. "They're okay.-See?"
Willow touches each baby with trembling hands and tears fall. Xander and Buffy each hold a baby as Kennedy wraps her arms around Willow. Dawn stands facing the door, an ax in her hands, ready for a fight should anything else decide to pay a visit. Xander and Buffy look at each other then the babies as they start to fuss.
In the park, Giles waits for Ethan. He senses someone and turns that direction. He sees a man in a suit walking his way-Giles puts his hands in his pockets and draws out a small dagger and a potion. The man stops in front of him. "I'm sorry, but Mr. Rayne is unable to meet with you." The man begins to transform into a demon-but before it is complete Giles hits it with the potion and then stabs the frozen creature with the dragger. It falls to the ground.
"Damn you Ethan-if this is how you want to play-let's have a go!"
Back at the house of Kennedy and Willow they are sitting in their bed each hold a baby. "I promise-no Big Bad Willow-she's gone."
"Okay-now what?"
"First, no more secrets-"
Kennedy nods. "No secrets-"
"We need to make some plans-the next few months will be pretty busy with research and the whole prophecy thing."
"What kind of plans?"
"A schedule-there needs to be two people with then at all times."
"We'll talk to the others tomorrow." Kennedy says.
"Okay-so, now-"
"Now we sleep. I hope-"
"You'll sleep."
"You know this how?"
"I just do-" her lips meet Kennedy's in a tender kiss that moves quickly to passionate. Willow opens her mouth as Kennedy begins to explore, but suddenly she pulls away. "The girls-" explains the young Slayer.
Willow blushes as she bites her bottom lip. "I forgot-" She leans in and kisses her again chastely this time. She lies down with a baby next to her and Kennedy does the same. The babies are protected as they lay between their mothers. They each kiss the girls who coo back at them.
"Good night Red."
"Good night." Their fingers lace together as Willow closes her eyes. Kennedy stares at the balcony glass. Just beyond her vision stands Ethan Rayne.
