Homecoming
The young mothers are in the nursery dressing the boys for their trip to the hospital. As Katie finishes she looks at her Slayer. "Want me to finish dressing him?" asks the teenager.
Aly smiles, "What do I have to do to convince you that I'm okay?" She moves closer to her girl and presses a kiss to her lips. As she backs away she raises an eyebrow suggestively.
"Oh, if by convincing you mean more of what happened earlier-"
"That's exactly what I mean-" the young Slayer kisses her girl again and soon lips begin to open and close against lips.
In the doorway Willow smiles, then clears her throat. The girls look her way as they separate. "You can leave the boys here if you want."
"Thanks-" says Aly as she finishes dressing her son. "But we're gonna take them-"
Katie adds, "We want them all together-it's been too long."
"I understand," smiles Willow. She turns to walk away.
"Mom-" says Aly, and the redhead looks back at her. "I promise you'll get to baby sit."
She rolls her eyes at the thought of being so easily read, "I know-" she walks into the hallway.
Katie has Adam in his carrier and helps Aly with Aidan. The baby cries unhappy about the seat he is now in. "It's okay," assures Katie as she kisses him on the forehead.
At the hospital things are in a bit of an uproar, alarms are shrieking loudly and the babies are crying. A man in a long black leather coat stands at the nursery window and around him, the air swirls. As he lifts his hand the glass falls away and the nurses scream. They franticly grab the babies and search for cover. Most protect the babies against their bodies by turning to the wall. The man lowers his hand and the disturbance stops. "I'll make this easy-I'm looking for the baby of the Slayer-" the nurses do not respond, unsure of his words. "I know she is here." The security finally appears, three men with guns, but they are knocked to the ground unconscious as he waves his hand again. "Where is she?" he shouts impatiently.
"Who-?" asks a scared woman. "What is a Slayer?"
Aly hears the words as she cautiously approaches the area. She sees the man-and stands tall- "I'm a Slayer."
He turns to her and a smile covers her face, "This is unexpected."
"I'll bet-so-you got your Slayer, wanna take this outside?" She looks around at the scared people and her eyes meet Katie's. The young witch holds the handles of the baby carriers a little tighter.
"I think not," his eyes follow Aly's and his sinister smile returns. "You see the child is here and I will find her. No matter the cost." He moves toward the young mother and her boys.
"Not gonna happen," states the young redhead. She takes a fighting stance between the man and her young family. However before she can force the issue with the stranger he is hit by a bolt of light and vanishes. She turns to Katie. "Where'd he go? Did you-"
"I'm not sure-he-I-" tears begin to fall as her Slayer reaches her, "He was gonna hurt the boys."
She pulls her girl into a hug. "Shhh-it's okay-they're okay." She looks up and into Katie's eyes. "Everyone is okay-thanks to you." She kisses her lips softly and takes the carriers from her. "Let's get Kyra and go home."
"Yeah-" she takes a deep breath and tries to refocus her energy. "Yeah-okay." She fights to stay calm.
Together they walk past the nurses' desk and into the NICU. They are relieved to see their little girl sleeping soundly with a nurse at her side. They both smile, "We're here to take Kyra home," says Aly.
At the house Aly has just finished nursing Kyra. She fixes her top and turns the baby so that she can burp her. Katie is feeding Adam his bottle. Aidan is sleeping peacefully in his crib. "You okay?" asks the young Slayer.
"Sure why wouldn't I be-" her words are laced with both anger and fear. "I mean someone just wants to take my daughter away. No big-" tears slip down her face. She fights to keep them at bay and then looks up at Aly. "I'm sorry this isn't your fault-"
"It kinda is-I'm a Slayer-so she's a Slayer, and because she is someone or something is trying to hurt her." Tears fall down her face as well.
Katie stands with Adam and moves to the crib to tuck him in with his brother. She then takes Kyra from Aly's arms and puts her between them. Katie takes Aly's hand and the young redhead stands. Eye to eye they face each other, "This-is-not-your-fault," states Katie punctuating each word with a soft kiss. She wraps Aly in her arms and holds her while she cries.
A few seconds later a more composed Aly pulls away slightly. She presses a kiss to her lover's lips. "I love you-and I love them-I'll keep them safe."
"I know you will Aly," says Katie softly as her hand brushes a tear away from her girl's cheek.
The door opens and they look up to see Willow and Kennedy. "Anything?" asks the young Slayer as she turns to face her parents-her hand now holding Katie's.
They walk into the nursery and the older Slayer speaks, "No luck with the description-nothing in the texts."
"A prophecy?" asks Aly.
"Annie's working that angle now-" says her mom. "I called Buffy-who is gonna call Giles-"
"I hate this-" says Katie, her words soft.
Aly squeezes her hand and kisses her chastely, "They're safe-I promise."
Kennedy adds, "They live in a house full of Slayers and witches."
"Only a fool would try anything here," says the redhead.
The house begins to shake and Kennedy scans the room for trouble. Willow puts a force field around the Aly, Katie and the babies as the man materializes.
"Guess this makes him a fool-" a nervous Kennedy looks at her wife then back to the man. "This is a bad idea-"
The man simply smirks; "It has to be done-"
Annie and Alex enter the room, "I guess we can stop looking-" says Annie, "Just makes things so much easier when they're cocky." She takes a fighting stance as well. "Step on up-" she challenges.-But before she can attack a bolt of light blasts through the force field and the man again vanishes, "Damn it-where'd he go?"
Willow stares at Katie as the new mother's hands still spark from the power used. "Katie?"
"I-I don't know-" she begins to cry.
Aly pulls her into a hug and looks at her mom. She can see the worry there. "Ouch-" says Aly pulling away as Katie's hand touches her back. She looks at her girlfriend unsure.
"What's happening to me?" asks Katie scared.
Willow steps toward the young witch. "You're okay you just need to-"
"I'm not-I hurt Aly-" she starts.
"No-I'm fine-" Aly tries to assure her.
Willow puts a hand on the girl's shoulder but Katie pulls away. "Don't-" her eyes meet the redhead's. "Please."
The older witch nods as she sees a slight flash of red there, "No touching-but let's talk."
The babies start to cry and Katie starts to pick up Adam but stops, as she sees her hands still spark. She turns and runs from the room. Aly starts after her but Willow stops her, "Mom I need-"
"I'll go-you stay and take care of the babies."
Aly struggles with the decision but finally nods. Willow hugs her and leaves. Aly moves to the babies and picks up Adam and he settles instantly. Annie picks up Aidan and he too becomes quiet. Kennedy picks up her granddaughter for the first time. "Definitely adds a spark-" she teases. Annie and Aly roll their eyes.
Alex shakes his head and starts to leave but stops as he feels a weird energy in the air, "Mama-he's back."
"How can you-" the man appears tries to take Kyra from the Slayer.
Alex hits him with a bolt of energy much stronger than Katie but the man stands unharmed. He smiles at the young boy, "You are no match for me."
"We'll see about that," Alex raises his hand again. With one motion he sets a force field around his family and hits the man with another stream of energy. This time the man falls to the ground in pain.
However he regains his strength and stands to face Alex-he raises his staff toward the teenager. "Little boy you have so much to learn-"
Angered Alex puts a barrier around himself and the man's energy bounces off and back at him, hitting him squarely in the chest. Instantly the intruder in the leather coat is turned to ash. The barriers fall, as does Alex. "Alex-" whispers Kennedy worried as she hands the baby to Aly and moves to her son. "Alex-" she touches his cheek and relaxes slightly as she sees his eyes open. "You okay?"
"Tired-damn my head hurts." A trickle of blood slides from his nose.
Son of a Witch
Willow approaches Kennedy in the hallway beside Alex's door. "Hey you," says the redhead as she stops and forces a smile.
"Hey," they kiss softly. "How's Katie?"
"She's a little freaked-I mean it's scary when the power controls you," she looks down still ashamed of her past behavior.
Kennedy lifts her chin with her hand and their eyes meet, "You're not that person anymore."
"Yes, I am-" whispers the redhead and Kennedy looks at her girl unsure. "I just-I can keep it from taking over. Thanks to you." She kisses her Slayer softly.
The brunette smiles and wraps her arms around her girl's waist, "Do you wanna test that kite string?" She raises an eyebrow suggestively.
"Definitely, as soon as I check on Alex."
Kennedy leans in and kisses her again, "I'll run a bubble bath."
"Umm I like that idea," she kisses her again and then goes into her son's room. He is lying in bed, his eyes closed. She walks to his side and sits next to him. She brushes his hair from his face and presses a kiss to his forehead. Worry fills her eyes but she forces it away when she sees his staring back at her. "How you feeling?" She whispers.
"Like there's a really loud rock band walking around in my head."
"It'll be gone by morning." She touches his cheek with her hand. "Sleep-we'll talk later."
She starts to stand but his hand on her arm stops her. "Why did the magic hurt?"
"My guess-?"
"Works for me-" he smiles slightly.
She returns his smile though worry is beginning to run wild in her. "It was probably stronger than any you've used before."
"I've put up barriers since before I could walk-" his words stop and she sees his fear.
"True-I'm not sure how this was different but it was-we'll figure it all out tomorrow." She kisses his forehead again. His eyes close and she sits next to him unmoving.
In Aly and Katie's room the two lie spooned together, the young Slayer's arms encircling her witch. Katie eyes are filled with unshed tears. Aly kisses the back of her neck. "What's happening to me?" asks the young witch.
"You were just worried about the babies," Aly assures her.
"Maybe-but why'd I get so-with the grrrrrr?"
"I don't know-but if it happens again we'll find someone who does."
"I don't want to wait till it happens again."
She turns her girl to face her, "Then we won't, we'll have Mom call the coven first thing in the morning. Okay?"
"Okay-" she presses a kiss to Aly's lips. "I'm sorry-" her tears fall.
"Sh-h-h-h-" she kisses her again. She hears a baby begin to cry and she smiles at her girl. "Looks like dinnertime is starting."
"I'll get her," says Katie.
"Her?" questions Aly unsure. "How can you tell it's Kyra?"
"I just can-weird huh?"
"Yeah-but cool," says the new mother. Katie smiles and leaves the room.
Nearly two hours later Kennedy walks into Alex's room in her robe, her hair damp around the edges. She sees Willow sitting on the bed beside their sleeping son. She puts a hand on her shoulder and the redhead turns to see her Slayer and realizes she forgot their date. "I'm sorry," she whispers.
"It's okay-just this once," she smiles.
Willow stands and Kennedy puts her arms around her girl, "What if I promise to make it up to you?"
Kennedy looks from her witch to their son and then back, "You're worried about something?" Willow simply nods. "What?"
"It's hard to explain-"
"Try?"
Again she nods as she moves away from Kennedy to look out the window. "He used so much power that he borrowed it, I think-" she stops.
"Borrowed it-from whom?"
"I don't know-maybe Annie-maybe you."
"I didn't feel anything-" she forces a smile, Willow faces her. "I didn't go flying into the wall like when you-" her words stop as she sees tears fall down the redhead's face and realizes that her wife is genuinely concerned. "Do you think it's a bad thing?"
"I-maybe-" Kennedy walks to her and encircles her protectively in her arms. "We have to keep an eye on him-on his magicks."
"We will-" she kisses her forehead. "I promise."
"It's so easy to let it-"
"It won't-he's smart and strong and we'll keep him safe." Willow buries her face into her Slayer's chest. Kennedy watches her son sleep restlessly.
In Aly and Katie's room the young Slayer nurses Kyra, as Adam and Aidan sleep nestled between her and her young witch. Katie's eyes open slowly and she looks up at Aly. "Sorry-" says the new mother.
"It's okay-sleep-I can get them to bed," assures Aly.
Katie leans on her elbow and gently strokes the arms of the sleeping baby boys, then looks up Aly and the nursing little girl. She touches the baby girl's cheek and leans in to kiss Aly. "What are we going to when they're teenagers?"
"I'm more worried about when they're two," Aly smiles at her girlfriend as she realizes the plans they've made without thought.
"How hard can two be-we're bigger than they are."
"Spoken like a girl from a small family, I remember what it was like when the girls were two-all four of them-it wasn't fun." Katie silences the babbling that's about to start with another kiss. Aly smiles as they pull apart, "That-" she kisses her between each word, "on-" kiss "the-" kiss- "other-" kiss- "is-" their lips begin to open and close in a gently rhythm. Kyra begins to fuss and the couple looks down at their daughter. "What's wrong?" she watches the baby. "Finished?" she removes the baby and puts her on her shoulder and pats her back. Katie's hand rubs the baby's back as well. The baby burps loudly startling the sleeping boys and they begin to cry. "You've gotta be kidding me."
Katie can't help but laugh as she tries to quiet them, "It's okay boys-Mama's here." She picks up one but can't get the other into her arms and he still cries. Aly puts Kyra on the bed beside her crying bother and then picks him up. As she cuddles him the noise stops. "See no big-" about that time Kyra lets out a loud cry.
"You were saying?"
"Shut up-" she banters playfully as she rolls her eyes. She puts Aidan in Aly's free arm and picks up her daughter with a smile of victory. "Got you little one."
The morning finds Kennedy asleep in a chair with Willow curled up with her. Alex begins to wake up, he opens his eyes and rubs them as he feels the dull pain of the headache still there. As he tries to focus on the room he sees his parents there. Unsure why they are there he speaks, "Mom-" he says softly. "Mama-" he tries when Willow doesn't answer. Kennedy too is silent. He sits up slowly and puts a hand on his still throbbing head. He gets up and walks past his parents, and out the door.
He is eating cereal at the table when Annie comes down the stares. He looks up to see who has entered the room and her eyes see his- "Alex-what's wrong with your eyes?"
"My eyes?" he asks unsure. "Nothing-why?" She is gone before the words are out and she hits the second floor landing in a sprint, "Mom!" she yells as she heads for her parents' room.
Willow and Kennedy come into the hallway, "Annie what's wrong?"
"Alex-his eyes-"
The boy is now in the hallway as well, along with the other family members. "What's wrong with my eyes," he asks again.
Willow's face pales as she looks into the red pools of the teenager. Kennedy steps forward, "It's okay-" she tries to start but the boy moves back and into his room. She finds him staring into the mirror as she and Willow enter.
"What's happening?" he asks.
Willow is finally able to speak, "The magicks-a side effect."
"There's never been side effects," he says.
"I'll call the coven," says the redhead.
Alex fights the emotions surging through his body, "What's happening to me?" His eyes start to turn a darker shade.
"Relax-take a few deep breaths-" says his mama.
"I can't-" he starts to panic.
"You have to-" says Willow. "Meditate-find your energy-your center-"
The boy tries to do as his mom instructs, as he does his eyes start to lighten. The rest of the family fills the room.
Willow's mind is raging as she waits for an answer, the internal dialogue is frantic, 'Whoever you are stay away from my son!- So help me-' she can feel the anger grow and then a hand touches her shoulder. She looks at Kennedy.
"Willow-" her mouth drops open and she is speechless. She turns to Annie- "Get the kids out now."
"But Mama," starts Annie.
"Don't argue-go to Faith's-Aly-Buffy's now."
They are confused but as their mom turns to face them they understand. "Going now," they say in unison as they lead the others out.
"You think that will stop us?" asks the black-eyed witch.
"Maybe not-" she hits the woman she loves more than life and she falls to the floor from the unsuspected blow.
Willow lies there unmoving as Alex stares at his mama unsure, his eyes now their normal green. "This isn't good," he states.
"I'm pretty sure you're right." Willow sits up and turns to face them.
A House Divided
"Get out of here Alex-now-" states Kennedy calmly. The teenager looks from his mom to his mama, starts to object and as he sees the witch try to battle the demon within and he runs from the room.
Kennedy stands over her redhead prepared for the worst. To her surprise however she watches the eyes turn to emerald green and tears begin to fall, "I couldn't stop it."
Kennedy kneels down beside touching the bruise that now appears on her wife's cheek. "I know-"
"I tried-"
"I know sweetie-lets ah-lets just get out of here." She helps her redhead to her feet and looks back into her eyes.
"Still me-" assures Willow.
"Any ideas?" asks the Slayer.
"Ah-the magicks the demon used-some kind of residual darkness. Just a guess-" she states. "It's strong."
"We're stronger-" they start out the door and Willow stops. "What?"
"Don't be so sure," her eyes shift again-green to red-to black as she reaches to choke her Slayer.
Kennedy hits her again and catches her before she hits the floor. She looks at her unconscious lover as she picks her up and carries her through the door. "It's not your fault-" she kisses her softly on the bruise. "I'll fix it I swear."
Faith answers the pounding on the door to find Annie and three very upset kids. "Annie what's wrong-?"
"Mom-she's-" her words stop and tears fall.
Kristen takes over to the surprise of all, "Her eyes are all black and Mama said to go so we did." Her dark eyes meet Faith's. "Is Mom gonna be okay?"
"She with K?" The kids all nod, "Then she'll be fine. Come inside. Where's everybody else?"
"Buffy's," answers Alex.
At the home of the blonde Slayer Aly is explaining the best she can what happened. Erin, Ellie and Katie each hold a crying baby. Xander looks from the crying infants to the young Slayer. "Why don't I get the crib out of the attic and we can get the babies settled and then talk?"
"Yeah-" the new mother runs her fingers through her hair, "Yeah okay."
At the coven Kennedy stands in front of Althennea with the redhead still in her arms. She fights tears as she explains what happened, "It was-one minute she's fine and the next she's all black-eyed and evil."
"Bring her upstairs," says the witch.
Kennedy follows the woman up the stairs as they reach the room and she puts her on the bed the redhead's green eyes open, "Where are we?"
"The coven-"
"Everybody okay?"
"Yeah-" Kennedy presses a kiss to her lips. "Althennea is gonna figure this out in no time and you can see them for yourself, okay?"
"Okay," says Willow. She fights the glow of red that raises in her. "No-" she screams, "I won't let you control me-" she tries to calm herself and meditate. The red tint begins to fade.
Kennedy smiles, "That's my girl," she kisses her again. Althennea watches from the door.
Hours later Althennea is talking to Kennedy. "We can try a cleansing but I'm not sure it will work. I can feel the dark Magicks-they are strong."
"If that doesn't work?"
"From what you said, the demon was after the babies-"
"Aly's babies-Katie tried to stop him and she got all sparky-then Alex-when he dusted him his eyes were red and this morning-they were black."
"Willow-?"
"Will was fine until we realized there was something wrong with Alex-she freaked and the black eyes."
"The rest of your family-are there more witches?"
"Ah-they all can do some things-we've taught them-"
Althennea interrupts, "Natural witches-powerful?"
"Ellie-" Kennedy looks at the woman in fear. "Why?"
"Where is she?"
"With Aly at Buffy's-do you think he'll go after her next?"
"Call them-warn them there might be trouble. Tell the child not to use her magic."
The call is too late, as Ellie and Katie combine to make a stronger barrier as they are attacked by two demons. When they demons again vanish Buffy stares at the place they last stood, "Where'd you send them?" She looks at the witches.
"Didn't," says Ellie. "They left."
"Cause they knew they were gonna get a Slayer beat down," says Xander as he smiles at his wife.
"No-" answers Ellie. "That's not why."
"Then why?" asks Aly.
"Cause they got what they needed," she states matter-a-factly, her eyes red, then black along with Katie's.
"The babies-" says Buffy but when she looks to the crib the she sees that the babies are safe. "Or not-"
"What did they want El-?" asks Xander.
"Us-" she looks at Katie with a smile and they notice their eyes.
Katie moves toward the crib as the phone rings, "Katie-" Aly says softly. "Don't-"
Katie struggles to stop herself her eyes fading to a lighter shade, "Can't stop it-"
Erin stands in front of the woman stopping her path to the kids, "Then I will."
Katie smiles and sends a bolt of energy toward the girl. She jumps to safety, her diversion enough to allow Buffy to restrain her. "Let me go-" screams the witch.
"Can't do that," says the Slayer as the phone still rings. "Will someone answer that?" She rolls her eyes at the ringing.
Joy picks it up, "Hello-" pause "Aunt K-" again the child listens. "They were here but the babies are okay." Another pause. "Sorry but Mommy's busy-you want to talk to Dad?"
Xander starts to the phone, "Hey-" he listens, "A little late-" pause. "Yeah red and black eyes all around. Buffy's got Katie trying to calm her Ellie seems fine." Pause as his eyes fall on the girl. She moves toward the babies. "Erin-" Erin sees the movement and wraps up her twin much like Buffy has Katie. "No-we're okay-things are under control." He listens and nods- "Okay-I'll tell them, but you realize it's not going to go over well." He hands the phone to Joy.
"What's not going to go over well?" asks Buffy as she releases Katie into Aly's arms.
"Kennedy wants you to bring Ellie and Katie to her at the coven-and Alex."
"Why?" she asks unsure. He answers in his head hoping Aly is too preoccupied to listen, 'The coven is going to try a cleansing-if that doesn't work they want to bind their powers until they can figure out what's happening.'
'Where's Alex?'
'Faith's.'
Buffy walks to the young Slayer and watches her as she struggles with her love, "Your mama wants me to bring Katie to the coven so they can help her-" Aly's tears fall as her eyes meet the other Slayers. "And Ellie-"
She nods, "I'll come with you."
"You have to stay here-watch out for the babies-incase they come back."
"We'll be back," says Ellie-her smile evil, her eyes glowing. The girl goes limp in Erin's arms as we see Xander with the cloth over her face.
"What did you do to her," asks Erin anger in her voice.
"She's okay-just sleeping," assures the man. He moves toward Katie.
Aly looks at him unsure as she holds Katie still, "I need you to let him-" she stops and starts again. "It won't hurt-you'll just sleep."
Katie's eyes turn blue momentarily, "The babies-?"
"Are safe-I'll keep them safe." She kisses her girl then looks to Xander who places the cloth across Katie's face. Soon the girl is out cold.
"I'll take her to the car," says Xander.
"No-" says Aly as she fights more tears, "I will-you bring Ellie."
He picks the girl up taking her from her twin, Erin turns to guard the babies as the adults leave the room. Joy moves to her side and the young Slayers stand watch.
At Faith's Buffy has already picked up Alex. Annie and sits with the Slayer as the others are pretend to play a board game their minds filled with worry. "I don't like this-" states the young Slayer. "We're too spread out."
"This is what your mama wanted so this is what we do."
"Even if it feels wrong?" asks Annie. Faith's eyes meet hers, "It's like they planned this-separated us on purpose forced us to give away our power."
"We're Slayer's they can't take our power."
"They can't-Faith you know Mom can kick your ass anytime she wants right?" Faith half smiles- "Mama isn't thinking-she's worried about mom-so that lives us-think."
"We have no magic just Slayers-" says the once dark Slayer. "You're right-they planned it. Get the kids-we need to get to Buffy's." She moves toward her jacket and keys.
At the coven Althennea has completed the binding spells. Willow, Katie, Alex and Ellie are all resting together in a large room Kennedy paces from one to the other. "They're fine-" states Althennea.
"Right-just their magick is gone-" says Kennedy.
"Not gone just dormant it can be restored, once we know how the demons were using it against them."
Willow's eyes open and Kennedy sits beside her, "Hey-" she presses a kiss to her lips.
"I feel weird-" says the redhead.
"The binding spell-"
"Right-magic free. It worked?"
"Seems to have," Kennedy smiles, "Looking into to your beautiful green eyes."
"Flirt-"
"So-" she hears Althennea clear her throat behind her. "Ill let you two talk about the magicks I'll check the kids." She kisses Willow again and leaves her side.
At Buffy's, the Slayer listens as Annie and Faith talk. Aly joins them and shakes her head. "So this isn't over?"
"Just starting-" says Faith. "We should call K-tell her what's going down."
"Yeah," agrees Buffy. "She needs to be here."
Xander appears in the room, "Robin and I will go-keep an eye on things at the coven. You two should be here."
"Be careful," Buffy says as she kisses him.
"Always." He leaves with a worried look on his face. Robin kisses Faith and follows him out the door.
"What's the plan B?" asks the next oldest Slayer.
However it is Aly who speaks, "Kill anything that gets near my kids."
"Like that plan," deadpans Faith. "Is there more? Like maybe a how?"
Annie answers, "Weapons all around." She gets into Buffy's trunk and passes out axes, crossbows and swords.
Kara looks at the crossbow in her hands, then up at her sisters, Annie looks at her unsure, "What's wrong Kara?"
"Nothing," lies the girl. She steps closer to Aly.
"No matter what-" emphasizes Buffy, "No magic."
At the coven Xander and Kennedy are talking in the hallway, "A set up and I fell for it," she shakes her head. "Damn-okay I need to be at your place like now-" Althennea hears and nods. "You can do that?"
"Of course dear. Just picture it." Kennedy closes her eyes and then vanishes from the room. Xander looks at the woman amazed. "You should speak with Willow."
"And tell her what?"
"All you suspect." He nods and follows the woman into the room.
Buffy, Faith, Kennedy, and Annie are sitting around the living room each is watching the babies as they talk. Aly is feeding Adam as the other two begin to fuss. Annie walks to the crib and picks up Aidan, she sits next to her sister. "I think he's hungry too-"
"Yeah-ah-I can feed him if you'll-she turns Adam and cradles him like a football, feet first under her arm. "Just put him like this on the other side."
"Okay," she says as she turns the baby and puts him in Aly's arm. "Now what?" Their eyes meet and Aly smirks. "Right." She rolls her eyes as she begins to raise Aly's shirt.
A little later as Aly is burping Aidan and Annie is holding Adam they feel the house begin to shake. The twins put the babies in the crib next to their sister and pick up their weapons. "Damn-" says Kennedy as she stands moving toward the babies. Everyone gets into position and as the demons appear around the room-a total of fifteen in all-the fighting starts. It becomes instantly bad-the magicks of the demons knock down one Slayer after another stunning them-not allowing them to move. The outside ring of Buffy, Kennedy, and Faith is easily immobilized. They are held to the floor unable to help. Kennedy screams, "You hurt them and you are so dead!"
Annie is the next to fall she lands not ten feet from the crib. She begins to mumble a spell but Faith calls out, "Don't-it's what they want." Annie stops defeated.
Aly moves in front of the babies her crossbow ready but the magic simply slings it away. She too is made unless-she watches on terror as the demons move to the last ring-the youngest five-
Erin hits the closest with an arrow from her bow before it is ripped away. Grace and Joy neither get off a shot before they are penned to the ground as well.
Kara and Kristen are all that protects the newborns. The babies cry, and Aly cries as well- "Shh-babies-shh-" she tries to comfort them.
Kara and Kristen link hands and minds- 'We can't let them get the babies,' thinks Kara.
'How can we stop them?'
'We can't but we can-' starts Kara she looks at the babies. 'teleport them-'
'No magic remember?' Before the fight can continue the babies vanish from the crib.
The demons scream and then turn to smoke. Aly runs to the crib as the others move that way as well, "No-" cries the new mother. Kennedy grabs her and holds her up, her legs are unable to support her. "Mama-my babies-" she cries against Kennedy's chest.
"We'll find them-I swear," says Kennedy trying to keep her own tears from falling.
Faith and Buffy watch in amazement as the babies appear in the crib- "What the fuck-" says Faith before her mind filters and rephrases, "How did they-K-" she finally says.
Kennedy looks toward her and follows the Slayers eyes to the crib. "Aly-" she turns the girl toward the babies. "Look."
The little ones are playing contentedly in the crib. Aly moves to them and touches each one inspecting them to make sure they're okay. She closes her eyes and opens them again. She begins to pick them up until finally she has all three babies in her arms. "I'm sorry-I'm sorry-I won't let anything like this happen again-I'm sorry." She cries as she kisses each one.
Kennedy puts her arms around Aly and holds her while she holds them, "They're okay." She kisses her daughter on the head, "Shhh-they're okay."
A few feet away Annie watches her mama and sister and then looks at Faith and Buffy, "What just happened?" she asks.
"Not a clue," says Faith.
"I know," says Kristen. "Magic." The adults look at the child.
"You used magic?" asks Kennedy.
"No Mama, Kara did."
"No I didn't," says the little Slayer as she looks at her mama, "I was going to but then they were gone by themselves."
Aly looks at the babies in her arms, "Did you?" she smiles at them and they coo back at her in reply. "You did-which one of you?"
"And why aren't their eyes all with the eerie red and black?" asks Erin.
"Good question," says Buffy.
"One I'd like to know the answer to," says Kennedy.
"Definitely time for answers," says the oldest Slayer. "I'll call Giles and we'll meet up at the Slayer Academy."
"That's a plan-" says Faith.
All eyes fall back on the young mother who still holds onto her babies. She is talking quietly to them and kissing each one. Kennedy turns back to her- "Want some help?"
"No-I got them-" she tightens her hold on the babies. She scans the room carefully watching for more trouble. Of course she finds it- shimmering objects appear in the room before materializing in front of them. They all stare unsure.
A Long and Winding Road (In serious need of repair): Part 1
Willow, Katie, Ellie and Alex are now standing in the room. Aly takes a step back with the babies and Annie moves in front of her with a crossbow.
"Willow-" Kennedy says surprised.
The redhead smiles a sad smile, "Althennea sent us," she says.
Aly looks from her mom to her girlfriend to her brother and sister then speaks, her eyes on Willow, "How do we know you won't-"
"Alyson," is Kennedy's strong reply. She looks at her wife and sees tears.
"My job is to keep them safe," states the new mother. "Any way I have to-"
Willow nods, "And if I go all evil-that's what I'd expect you to do."
"As long as we're clear," says the young woman to her mom and again the redhead nods.
She looks to her sister and Annie lowers the crossbow. She looks nervously at her mom, "Why did she send you?"
"She thinks we should all be together."
"She's right," adds Faith. "They-whoever the hell they are want to divide us."
"Question now is why?" asks Buffy.
"Time for answers," states Kennedy.
"Giles is waiting at the Academy," reminds Faith.
"Yeah-" says Annie. "I'll get the kids together and we'll meet you there." The young Slayer moves around the room gathering the youngest Slayers and then goes toward the door.
Katie looks at Aly, "Is it okay if I ride with you?"
Aly hesitates unsure as tears form in her eyes, Buffy speaks, "Why don't you come with me?"
"Right-" she says defeated as she looks at her girlfriend and babies. She walks toward the door.
Willow looks to her son, "We'll ride with you too Buffy."
Kennedy looks at her unsure, "Willow-"
"You and Faith go with Aly-watch out for the babies."
"Okay," she steps forward and kisses her redhead, "See you there."
With the others gone, Aly looks at the two older Slayers but doesn't speak it is Faith who breaks the silence. "We're not gonna find out anything standing here-"
Aly nods and starts to the door with the babies. She has trouble carrying all three, "Let me help-"offers Kennedy. Aly looks at her unsure.
Without asking Faith takes Adam from her arms, "Gotta trust somebody kid-" their eyes meet. She moves to the door.
Aly looks at her mama and tears fall, "I don't know what to do?"
Kennedy touches her cheek, "Do what you feel is best for them-" she looks at the babies. Aly nods and hands Aidan to her. They go out of the room together with Faith behind them.
At the Slayers' Academy the families sit with Giles as they explain the day's events. The older man stands and begins to pull books from the shelves. He returns to the large table and hands one to each adult there. Xander is the first to start reading as he opens the ancient text. Without a word the others do the same. After nearly two hours the group sits at the same table with no more information then they had at the start.
A frustrated Aly stands and walks to the make shift crib to check on the babies. They are sleeping soundly-Aidan starts to stir and she touches his hand. "Shhh-sleep little man." She bends down to kiss his cheek. When she stands she sees Katie a few feet away. She looks at her girlfriend and then down at their kids. She fights new tears as her eyes meet soft blue. She holds her hand out to the woman she loves. Hesitantly Katie steps toward her. She takes her hand and Aly pulls her into a tight hug. "I'm sorry-" they hold each other as tears fall from both parents.
Katie pulls back and their eyes meet, "I'm sorry-this is my fault I was all with the grrrrr-"
"And I was all with the crazy so let's call it even huh?" Katie nods and they hug again. This time as they pull back Aly kisses her softly. "We'll fix it I promise."
"I know-" she presses a kiss to her girl's lips. She looks down at the babies as Kyra begins to fuss. "She's hungry-" smiles Katie.
"She's always hungry-" Aly smiles.
"A Slayer thing," states Katie.
"Yeah-she's a Slayer-but one of them is a witch-ah-a warlock." Katie looks unsure. "When the demons attacked they ah-well they just kinda- the kids-they disappeared and then they reappeared," she babbles.
"Disappeared-really?" The young Slayer nods. "Wow-and you think it was one of them?
"Kinda had to be-you know with the binding and-" she stops.
"And no weird eyes?" asks Katie.
"No-something else we need to check out."
Later after feeding all three babies Aly and Katie have rejoined the others at the table. The stack of books discarded has now doubled in size. Kennedy is now up pacing around the room-Willow walks over to her and hugs her. "It's late and it's been a really bad day-you should try to get some sleep."
"I can't-" she says simply.
Willow kisses her chastely and whispers in her ear, "I love you-"
"I know-I love you," states the Slayer as she looks into her redhead's green eyes. "I don't know what to do-" she says honestly. "I don't know to keep them safe."
"Like always, we do whatever we have to." Kennedy nods her head in agreement. "But to do that you need sleep."
She rolls her eyes knowing her wife is right and hating it. "Maybe-but not right now." She looks toward her daughter and the babies at her side.
"Okay-but promise soon?"
"Yeah-" she takes Willow's hand. "One more book?" Without a word they walk back to the table and each picks up another book.
A few minutes later it is Faith who has had enough. The once rogue Slayer looks up from her book and toward the oldest Slayer their eyes meet, "B-what do you say we hit a couple bars?" All eyes turn to her, she restates, "Demon bars-rattle some cages?"
"I'm in," Buffy says and they stand.
Robin speaks, "I don't think it's a good idea-"
"Why not?" Faith looks at her husband unsure.
"Ah-the bar's a good plan, but both of you going just takes away too much power you know?"
"Wasn't thinking-" agrees Buffy. "Faith you go-"
Giles adds, "But not alone-"
Annie stands, "I'll go-"
Willow looks at her unsure, "Annie-"
"I'll be fine-Mom," she can't help but smile. "We'll be looking for information not picking up guys."
"I got her back Red," Faith assures and Willow nods. "Won't be gone long," she says and stands. She turns to Robin and whispers in his ear as she kisses him. "Keep an eye on Willow."
"Plan to-" he kisses her again, then the two Slayers leave.
After three bars and no luck the Slayers stand facing the bartender, "We don't want trouble," states the green demon.
"Neither do we," answers Annie.
"Just some information," adds Faith. "Looking for some new talent in town-demon-about six tall, looks human except for the ears and the tail."
"Don't know anything." He stares at the women.
"We're just gonna ask around," informs the older Slayer.
"Can't let you do that."
"Thought you didn't want trouble," asks Annie as she levels her crossbow at a group across the room-vampires she can tell by the shiver they send up her back.
"Get the hell out of here-" he reaches for something behind the counter but Faith stops him by grabbing his arm.
She bends his wrist in a not so comfortable position and he cries out. Customers look his way and he forces a smile, "Now we're gonna talk to people-things here-"
"Sure-fine." They walk around the bar in opposite directions.
Frustrated they leave with nothing again. "This really bites," states the young Slayer as they walk toward the car. "They can't be this outta the loop."
"They're not, they're just more afraid of them then us-that's never a good thing."
"So how do we get them to tell us what they know?"
"Gut instinct?" Annie nods. "Beat it out of them, but it doesn't always work."
"At this point what do we have to lose?"
"Good point-start with the bartender?"
"Didn't much like his attitude, sure why not?" They turn to go back to the bar. As they do they see a band of vampires and demons headed their way. "Shit!" curses Annie.
"Definitely-weapons up and stay back to back. They out number us four to one."
"Should make it about even," smirks the cocky young Slayer.
Faith can't help but smile, "Yeah-you're definitely K's kid."
The gang moves even closer as the Slayers prepare to fight. As the gang circles their prey Annie levels her bow as does Faith. "Step right up-" quips the young Slayer, "no waiting in this line." She sends an arrow through the nearest vamp and he becomes dust in the night's soft breeze. "Next."
At the Slayers' Academy Willow who is standing at the bookshelf reaches forward to hold onto it, she is suddenly pale. Robin who is watching her reacts by standing and moving her way. "Willow?" he speaks.
"Something's not right." They all look to her as Robin takes her by the arm to hold her upright. Kennedy is now at her side.
"Red?" Kennedy puts her arms around her redhead's waist taking her weight as Robin lets go.
"I think they're in trouble," she pauses to focus on the sensations going through her body. "Annie and Faith-fighting-they need help."
Buffy speaks, "Can you tell were they are?"
"Not sure," she closes her eyes and calls out with her mind, 'Annie-where are you?'
'Mom-' a scared voice. Suddenly the two Slayers appear in the room. Faith crumbles into the younger Slayer. She is covered in blood.
Xander moves toward the back of the room, "I'll get the first-aid kit."
Robin and the others move to Faith. Aly starts to help them but stops her first concern the babies. "How did you get here Annie?"
Willow looks from one daughter to the other and sees Annie's dark eyes, the evil laugh follows- "Damn almost caught you off guard." She steps closer to the babies and Aly hits her with a hard right. "That all you got?" asks her twin as she continues to the babies.
"Don't make me do this-" tries the young Slayer and mother.
"Kinda have to-" her eyes flicker and turn darker. Xander grabs her from behind, a cloth to her face and she collapses in his arms. Willow is at her side instantly as the man carries her to the couch.
Buffy and Robin attend to Faith, finally getting the bleeding under control. Nikki watches from a few feet away, "Is Mom gonna be okay?" the twelve-year-old asks.
Robin's eyes meet hers and he stands as she walks into his arms, "She's a Slayer-so she's pretty tough-"
"Dad-" she stops suddenly unsure whether she wants a better answer or not. He holds her as she fights tears.
Buffy looks to the man, "Robin-she should-we should probably take her to the hospital."
They are both shocked to hear the injured Slayer speak, "No hospitals B-I'm good." She looks up at them and she sees her scared daughter, "Don't worry-be back on my feet in a day or two," she reaches for the girl's hand. Nikki smiles and kneels beside her mom, holding her hand.
"There's a lot of blood," states the child.
"Not all mine-" suddenly her voice seems unsure- "Annie?"
"She's here," says Buffy not giving any details.
"We were surrounded and then those damn demon things-were everywhere-"
Robin stops her, "You're safe-so is Annie-rest."
Faith's eyes start to close but then open, "I remember-she used magic-damn I tried to stop her. Red-I swear-I did."
Kennedy who is now standing next to them nods, "She's stubborn that way-"
"Just like you-" says the once rogue Slayer as her eyes close.
Robin picks her up and moves her to the other couch in the room careful of her wounds. Nikki brings a blanket and he covers her. Sitting on the arm he watches Xander and Willow as they attend to the young Slayer.
Buffy and Kennedy are standing a few yards away from the others; "Her powers-" starts the oldest Slayer.
"I know-Willow and I will take her," she moves to her wife and puts a hand on her should. "Will-"
She looks up with tears in her eyes, "I'll call the coven." She stands and moves into Kennedy's arms. She hugs her tightly as she keeps the tears at bay.
The phone call made they are getting ready to leave, Buffy walks to Kennedy, "You shouldn't go-you're needed here-we're down two Slayers."
"She's right," says the redhead as she meets eyes with her Slayer. "You should stay with the babies."
"I'm not gonna let you-"
Willow stops her wife's words, "Not gonna let?" she raises an eyebrow.
"You know what I mean Will-it's not safe, your magic can't keep you safe."
Xander speaks, as he picks up an axe and a crossbow, "I'll go with her."
Buffy nods, "Call as soon as you get there," she says to her husband.
"Yeah-count on it," he kisses her softly. He picks up the still unconscious Slayer and Willow follows them from the room.
As night turns to early morning and the sun rises Kennedy is sitting on the couch watching Aly watch the babies. She gets up and goes the few feet to her daughter and speaks. "Sleep a while-I'll watch them."
Aly looks at her girlfriend asleep next to her, "I tried-I can't-" she looks to the babies. "They're counting on me."
She touches the teenager's cheek and wipes away a falling tear from her daughter's face. "Alyson-this is gonna get a lot worse before it gets better. You can't take care of them if you don't take care of yourself."
Buffy speaks from the chair across the room, "She's right, sleep we'll take baby duty." She moves beside them.
Aly nods and touches the cheek of each sleeping baby, "For a few minutes-I'll sleep for a few minutes."
"Okay-" says Kennedy as she presses a kiss to the girl's forehead. Aly curls up next to Katie and though she is sleeping her arms wrap around her lover.
Kennedy looks at Buffy and they move without talking to the babies-one on each side of the make shift crib. They survey the room watching for anything out of the ordinary. Their watch continues as the others sleep.
Giles is still at the table where he spent his night he is reading an ancient text, he removes his glasses, wipes them and then returns them to his face. He rereads the passage and stands, "Good Lord-" he mutters as he moves toward Buffy and Kennedy.
They both stand as they see him approach, "Giles-" states Buffy unsure.
"Buffy you must take the babies from here at once."
"I don't understand," states the blonde Slayer.
"There isn't time," he restates.
She moves to pick them up but Kennedy stops her, "Buffy-"
"Kennedy the two of you must leave immediately and take Faith."
"What the hell going on," she asks fear in her voice.
He hands her the text, "It's all here-cryptic but it explains. Tell no one where you are. I'll Do what I can from here-go-" Kennedy looks to her sleeping daughter. "She mustn't know-go-now."
Kennedy picks up the crib with one last look at Aly and Katie. Buffy scoops up Faith from beside a sleeping Robin and the Slayers are gone.
As they go the side wall explodes and the demons enter. The members of the coven stand along side them. The others in the building awake-Aly looks to the crib and sees it is gone-she looks at the demons and her magic flows sending them into the daylight before they explode. Eyes gleaming red, then black she levels her stare at Giles- "Someone better start talking."
A Long and Winding Road (In desperate need of repair): Part 2
Kennedy goes through the nursery packing clothes, diapers and wipes into a diaper bag. She jogs down stairs and grabs all the extra bottles from the refrigerator as well. As she goes through the living room she sees the pictures on the mantle-new pictures of Aly and Katie with the triplets, tears trying to fall are held inside as she picks up the picture and stuffs it into the bag with everything else. She runs out the door and to the waiting car.
Inside the car Buffy is behind the wheel trying to keep the babies settled while Faith lies in the backseat battling to stay conscious. Kennedy slides into the front seat after tossing the bag in the back. "Drive," she states as she closes the door and that's what Buffy does. She squeals the tires as she speeds out of the driveway.
At the Slayer's Academy Aly stares at Giles and then the demons. She blasts one with a bolt of energy and it explodes to dust. The angry Slayer turns her eyes to the others, "Where are they?"
The Slayers are still driving, from the back seat Faith speaks her voice weak- "Any idea where we're going?"
Buffy looks to Kennedy and then realizing she has no clue she pulls off the road, "None-" she says honestly. "Kennedy?"
The Slayer looks at her grandkids and then the blonde, "Someplace they won't think about looking."
Faith smiles a weak smile, "Double back."
"Where?" asks the other Slayers in unison.
"Your place K-"
"Okay-no more talking for you-it's obvious you've lost too much blood and your brain's not working," says Kennedy as her hand touches a sleeping baby.
"No-" starts the oldest Slayer, "She's right-that whole hid in plain sight thing."
"You're serious?" questions Kennedy.
"It's your call but yeah I think it'll work." She waits for the woman's approval.
"Okay-" she says.
Faith speaks again, "We should leave the car here-throw them off." She starts to get out.
Kennedy's hand on her arm stops her, "Sit back down-we'll get rid of the car later-after we get you in bed."
Faith smirks, "Always knew you had a thing for me-"
"Get over yourself," she says with a smile.
"That's hard," she says her voice losing some of its edge as she gets tired.
"Any chance you're gonna pass out anytime soon?"
"Yeah-" her eyes threatening to close.
"Thank god," says Kennedy playfully as she takes the Slayer's hand.
"I'm gonna tell Red," Faith counters.
"Would you shut up?"
"K-" her eyes close. Buffy pulls the car back onto the road.
At the academy the demon numbers keep getting smaller. Aly is angry, "One more time-where are my kids?"
She hits another with a bolt and as she aims for the next Althennea speaks, "You should ask the watcher."
The teenager's black eyes fall on the man but he is silent. Erin however speaks, "Maybe they disappeared like before."
Aly seems to be considering that option until Ellie asks, "Then where's Mama?"
"That's a very good question-" her eyes go back to Giles. "And I have another one-where's Buffy?"
Giles decides to answer, "They're with Faith." That's not a lie he thinks to himself. He sees Robin move toward the angry new mother and he tries to keep her attention. "She was hurt-remember?" Aly nods. The others watch nervously as Robin reaches for the girl-covering her mouth with a cloth. She struggles to get away but he is able to hold her long enough. She crumples to the floor. "Get everyone out," orders Giles.
Katie ushers the children toward the doors as Erin grabs a crossbow and fires at the nearest demon. Tears fall down her cheeks as she looks at her sister on the floor. The demons vanish along with the members of the coven. "We can't just leave her," states the twelve-year-old.
Giles puts a hand on her shoulder, "For now we must," she looks up at him. She wipes the tears away and follows him from the room.
At the Langdon house Kennedy is feeding Aidan as Buffy comes in the front door. She looks at the sleeping Slayer on the opposite couch as she tosses the car keys on the coffee table. "Left it on the south side. She been asleep long?"
"Since you left." Her voice shows some fear, "She really needs a doctor."
"No I don't," comes a groggy reply.
"Stubborn," quips Kennedy.
Buffy sits beside Faith and picks up the book from the table. "Guess we better start with the research."
"Yeah-wish Will was here, that's her thing."
"What's to research, we have the book-just read it," says Faith.
"Right," says the blonde as she opens the old book.
Xander carries Annie as he and Willow walk through the doors of the academy. "This is bad," states the redhead. "Do you know how much power they have to have to take out a coven?'
"Guessing all they took from you and the kids, plus more?" Their eyes meet.
"We have to tell Giles and then do the binding ourselves," she looks at her daughter and the teenager begins to stir.
"We don't have much time," he states.
Inside the library Aly wakes and stands as she looks around the empty room. She is enraged as she realizes they have all gone. She begins to fire energy bolts at the room destroying books, tables and all else in her path. "I'll find you," screams the teenager.
As Willow and Xander enter the room they see the mess and then the girl, "Aly what happened?"
"Mom-" the girl says as she smiles her back to them.
"Where's everyone?" asks Xander. The girl turns and they see her eyes. "Run Willow-"
"Don't-" smiles the teenager. "We should talk."
Annie wakes as well and Xander puts her down, the original Scoobies back away. Xander pulls the redhead toward the door. "Maybe later," he states.
"Xander," tries Willow, tears in her eyes.
"I'm sorry-"
"Touching moment," smiles Annie. She grabs her mom's arm.
Willow pulls away and she finally runs. Xander follows her and the girls start after them only to begin to shimmer. Willow watches unsure as they vanish. "What just-Xander?"
"I don't know-but Will-we need to be some place not here." He leads her from the room.
In the underground caves of The Ancient the twins materialize. They look around at the demons and then the leader. "I know this place," states Aly.
"Yes," says The Ancient, "We've been waiting for you." He smiles as the teenagers move closer. "As it is written so shall it be," he whispers.
Buffy is reading the book-she mutters, "Damn prophecy should have known." Her face pales and she looks at the others. "It's worse then we thought-"
"Not sure that's possible, I had decided it was bad," says the one rogue Slayer.
"The First?" Kennedy asks her eyes meeting Buffy's as she feeds Kyra.
"The First and his friend-" states the oldest Slayer.
"That Ancient guy-from when they were little?" Buffy nods. "No big-we just kick their as-" she stops herself as her eyes fall on the babies, "butts again."
"There's more-" Buffy looks from one Slayer to the other.
"There's always more," says Kennedy. "What's the prophecy say-read it."
"Let's call Giles-find Willow-" starts Buffy.
"Read it-" Kennedy repeats her voice tense with both fear and anger. She puts Kyra down beside her brothers.
Buffy starts, "The first born of the Slayer and the Guardian-"
"I have to find them," she stands and starts to the door. Buffy follows after her and the book falls to the floor.
Faith moves slowly and picks it up, wincing at the pain in her side. She begins to read the words- "Shit!" she says after the first paragraph. She looks at the babies, "Sorry little guys-language I know." She continues to read only this time out loud. "The first born of the Slayer and the Guardian will turn on their own. They will destroy the chosen three." Her eyes again fall on the babies. "And the world will fall to the beginning."
In the underground caverns the twins sit on two thrones and look down upon the demons. Keslar-The Ancient speaks, "It is as it was meant to be."
"Not quite-" says Aly.
"What would you have us change exulted one?"
The teenager smiles and her black eyes turn to him, "Find the witch-bring her to us."
"The witch is of no concern to us now her power is gone-we can not be stopped," states the demon.
"Fool-" blares Annie as she strikes him down. He smokes in smoldering flames as she looks to the next. "Find her." Without words the demon vanishes from their presence along with three others.
Back at the Slayer's house Kennedy paces around the room-her eyes always on the babies, "What does it mean by the beginning? Beginning like demons ruling the Earth or The First?"
"I guessing both," says Buffy. "Ultimate evil and demons they go together."
"That guy just can't let it go-can't face we beat him once-we'll beat him again." Her eyes lock with Kennedy's.
"How?" questions the scared Slayer- "Does the book tell us how to stop them?"
"No-but the last time we used the power of the Scythe-" says the blonde.
"Without magic does it have power?" asks Kennedy.
"Honestly I don't know-but think so-Will's magic just gave it a boost," contends the oldest Slayer.
"We need Red here-" states Faith. Kennedy tries to keep tears from falling-Faith stands on shaky legs and walks to her. Before she can protest the injured Slayer wraps her arms around her. "K-listen to me-" Kennedy looks in her eyes. "I promise you-" before her words are finished the tears fall, Kennedy holds to her tightly and sobs.
The door opens and they all turn towards it, Buffy moves between the babies and the door. "Xander-" she smiles.
Faith smiles as she sees the redhead, "Hey Red-"
"Faith-why are you hugging my wife?"
Kennedy looks up and then runs to her, "You're okay." She touches her face and they pulls her into a hug. "Will-I thought-" tears fall again. The redhead looks to the others as Kennedy buries her face against her chest.
"It's bad Willow-" Buffy starts, Xander's arms wrapped around her.
"Where's everyone?" asks the redhead.
"The Academy with Giles," Buffy answers.
Xander shakes his head, "No-only Aly-"
Faith speaks, "Robin wouldn't let anything happen to them-they're just hiding."
"Right," Xander agrees. "They're safe."
"You don't know that-" says Willow.
"We know Aly was pissed-so-I'm thinking she was mad because they got away," Xander insists.
"Makes sense," Faith agrees.
"Right," Buffy adds, not sure whom she is trying to convince. "We'll find them."
"Robin's cell phone-" she reaches for the phone on the table and dials. It rings and rings, finally she hears a voice. "Robin."
"Faith-" then silence. "You're okay?"
"Getting that way-you?"
"Yeah-we're all safe."
"That's good, I'll let everyone know. Kiss the kids for me?"
"Absolutely-be careful."
"Everyday in everyway-" she smiles. "Gotta go-"
"Yeah-keep in touch," he says. She nods and hangs up the phone.
"They're okay?" Willow asks. Faith nods.
"Why didn't you find out where they were?" asks Buffy.
"That way-nothing slips."
"Right," agrees Kennedy.
Willow looks confused, "Why did you split up?"
Kennedy realizes that her redhead doesn't know- "Come sit down Willow."
"What's wrong?"
"Just come sit down." Kennedy leads her to the couch and to the babies. "There's a prophecy-" she starts.
"It never ends-" she shakes her head. "How bad?"
"End of the world bad-" Kennedy replies.
"Aly and Annie?" tears start to fall. Kennedy nods as she tries to be strong. Willow stands and looks at the Slayers around her, "I'm not gonna let you hurt them."
"No one is gonna hurt them Willow," Kennedy stands beside her.
"Then how are you gonna stop them?"
"Like I stopped you-" states Xander as he pulls his best friend into a hug. "We got work to do-and we need you."
The redhead nods and moves into her Slayer's arms, "Let me see the prophecy." Buffy hands her the book as they all sit down.
At the cavern the demons return empty handed. Aly glares at them, "Great one she is nowhere to be found."
"Worthless creatures-you failed me." She raises her hand and blasts them all four to ash. Keslar cringes.
"Master-if I may suggest-our numbers are not endless. They may not be perfect but they are all we have."
Annie smiles, "Not exactly true-" she looks to her twin and she too smiles. "You want to or shall I?"
"You-it was your idea."
She closes her eyes, 'Mom-can you hear me?'
At the Langdon house Willow shares in shock, 'Annie-'
'We need to see you-'
'Annie let us help you-'
'Don't need help-got it all under control.'
'Please-'
'We'd like you to join us-we insist really or the killing starts with the people you love most.'
Willow's mind runs wild, 'the kids' she thinks.
'That's right. One hour-the park or I find them and kill one by one.-I think I'll start with Ellie then Erin-' she laughs.
"No!" screams the witch and the babies cry.
"Willow?" Kennedy and the others move to her unsure. "What happened?"
"I dozed off-ah-bad dream. I need a drink of water."
"I'll get it," says Xander.
"No-I can do it." She kisses Kennedy and moves toward the kitchen.
A few minutes later Kennedy walks into the kitchen to find it empty. "Willow-" she yells then switches to her mind. 'I know you can hear me-damn it where are you.'
'I'm sorry I have to meet them.'
'It's a trap-'
'I know-I love you.' Her voice is gone.
"No damn it you come back here." The others fill the room. "We have to find her-they'll kill her."
Faith looks at the Slayer, she picks up the telephone and dials Robin again, "We got big problems-we need all of you here." There is a pause while he talks. "The house-Kennedy's house." She hangs up the phone.
Xander looks at Buffy, "I'll get the Scythe." He goes out the back door before his wife can protest.
Faith looks at the others and they see the panic in her eyes, "The babies-" she runs back toward the living room just in time to see them start to vanish. "No!"
