Daughter of a Slayer
Three weeks later Aly is home. She is sitting in the living room on the couch her feet propped up on a stack of pillows. Katie smiles as she walks through the door with food on a tray. "Hey you-" smiles Aly. "When did you get home?"
"A little bit ago-your mom was fixing you some lunch so I talked her into letting me bring it to you." She sets the tray on the table and sits down next to her young Slayer. "How are you'll feeling?"
"Good-" she kisses her softly. "Better then good now." She smiles as she takes Katie's hand in hers and their fingers lace without thought.
"And before?"
"Bored-" she looks down. "I know it has to be with the resting and the sitting but-"
"I know what you need-"
"I know what I need too-" she leans in and kisses her girl's lips passionately. Her tongue seeks entrance and Katie accepts without thinking. The kiss escalates quickly and Aly's free hand begins to explore Katie's body.
"Wait-" says Katie as she pulls back. She looks into Aly's eyes and sees the want there.
"I know-" she fights tears. "Can't do that either." Katie touches her cheek with her fingers and then leans her forehead against Aly's. "I miss you-"pouts the young Slayer.
"Yeah-but just remember we'll more then make up for it later." She smirks as she slides her hand down Aly's cheek and neck, then rests it on her breast.
"Promise?"
"Count on it-okay?"
"No-but it'll have to be- right?"
Katie nods and sits up, "Now eat your lunch and then we'll go sit outside for awhile-sit on a blanket under your favorite tree." Aly nods and Katie sets the tray across her lap.
"Will you read to me?"
"I was thinking we could snuggle, but I could read instead." She kisses her softly.
"Could you do both?" asks Aly.
"I could try-it might be a little distracting." They both smile.
Later Aly is leaning against Katie's chest, encircled in her arms as she reads to her. Her eyes slowly close and Katie smiles as she feels her girl's body relax against hers and knows she's asleep. She presses a soft kiss to her head and puts the book down. She hand brushes Aly's swollen stomach. "Mama's tired you three be good."
It's the next weekend and Alex is walking from the bathroom. Kennedy walks toward him. "You're up early for a Saturday."
"Mom and I are going to the magic shop."
His mama smiles, "Sounds fun."
"We're gonna work on a protection spell-"
"Cool-any chance we could hang out after or do you have plans?"
"Plans sort of but I could change them," his eyes meet hers.
"Nah-we'll do something tomorrow." He nods and goes toward his room. She watches him out of sight, you can see the disappointment in her eyes.
Willow wraps her arms around her from behind, "Morning-" she kisses her neck and the Slayer turns in her arms to kiss her properly. When they pull apart Willow's eyes meet hers. "What's wrong sweetie?"
"Nothing-" she assures and kisses her lips again.
"Nice," another kiss, "Now-try a real answer this time please."
Kennedy rolls her eyes, "Just feeling left out-" she looks towards Alex's room.
"You could come with us-" says Willow.
"No-you guys have fun. Maybe I'll take Ellie and Erin riding."
"The girls left with Buffy earlier," says Willow. "The shopping spree remember?"
"That's today I thought-" she looks away. "Think Annie has plans with Jake?"
The girl walks from her room and answers the question before Willow can, "No plans why?" She looks at her mama.
Kennedy smiles, "Want to hang with your mama or are you too old?"
Annie smiles, "Sounds good-it's been awhile." Willow smiles as sees the Slayer relax. "I'll get a quick shower and then we can-" she pauses unsure. "What are we gonna do?"
"Up to you-" Kennedy says.
"Cool-" replies the teen as she goes into the bathroom.
"So," the redhead kisses her Slayer, "Have fun and I'll see you later. Meet me on the balcony for snuggles at sunset?"
"It's a date." They kiss again as Alex comes out of his room.
"You ready Mom?"
"Almost," she leans in for one more kiss and then smiles at her wife as she walks away with their son.
Later that night Willow and Kennedy are snuggled together on the balcony. They are wrapped together in a blanket. Kennedy strokes the redhead's back as her love lies on her. She kisses the top of Willow's head, her breathing still ragged. "That was-" she let's her words fall unfinished.
"Nice?" Smiles Willow as she kisses Kennedy's bare shoulder.
"Better than nice-" whispers the Slayer as their lips meet again. The redhead's hand begins to caresses her girl's body. "Again?" asks the younger woman with a raised eyebrow.
"Okay?"
"Definitely," she answers as she turns over pinning the witch beneath her. Kennedy's lips kiss down the pale, freckled skin of her redhead. She smiles against her as she feels and hears a sharp intake of breath. Soon her fingers trace the same trails and her lover is lost.
Aly and Katie lie in bed both still awake. Aly's hand finds its way under Katie's nightshirt. As it travels toward her breast Katie's hand finds hers and holds it still just short of her destination. "Please-" whispers Aly. "I need to touch you-be close to you." No answer comes from the other teen as she struggles to stay in control though her resolve is starting to falter. Aly moves her lips closer to her lover's ear. "Be inside you." Her other hand finds its way to the girl's thigh. "Let me love you-" without words she moves her hand from Aly's and instantly it finds her breast. The slight squeeze causes the girl to moan as she closes her eyes. "I love you." Her lips find Katie's. As they kiss Aly continues to caress her witch. "I love you," she repeats as her fingers begin to explore already slick folds. "So wet-" Katie's hips rise involuntarily against her lover's touch. Understanding Katie's need, Aly slips two fingers inside, foreplay long forgotten as she sets a steady rhythm.
"Yes-" breathes Katie as she bites her bottom lip. As Aly slows the pace Katie starts to protest only to feel her girl's thumb exert pressure on her clit. "Oh-god-Aly-" her breathing is frantic as she builds toward her release. "Fast-er please baby-" her words are needy and Aly can't refuse her. The pace quickens and Katie explodes calling her lover's name.
As they lie wrapped in each other the redheaded Slayer speaks, "Okay?"
"M-mmm-" is all the girl can manage as she feels Aly's fingers on her body again. "Sleep now," she whispers as her eyes close. She snuggles closer to her Slayer.
Two weeks later the young couple is sitting in the exam room at the doctor's office. Aly is now twenty-one weeks and everyone seems more positive. Dr. Westridge checks the chart and smiles at the young mothers-to-be. "How are you feeling?" His eyes fall on Aly.
"Okay-" answers Aly honesty. "A little bored but it's worth it."
"Any more contractions?"
"No-none, I've been following doctor's orders not taking any chances."
"That's good." She makes a few notes. "We're going to get you ready for an ultra sound."
"Ultrasound?" asks Katie.
"Something not right?" asks Aly suddenly nervous.
"Just want to get a look at them. I'm not expecting to find anything wrong." She smiles reassuringly. "Did you want to know the sexes?"
Katie and Aly look at each other and at the same time they shake their heads. Katie speaks, "We're pretty sure we know, but don't tell us."
"We want it to be a surprise," Aly adds.
"So only pictures with no clues got it." She leaves to get the tech.
Aly and Katie are hand-in-hand as they wait. Katie smiles at her Slayer and Aly smiles back, "What?" she asks.
"I just-I love you and what you're doing-makes me love you more," she kisses her softly then touches her face with her free hand. They kiss again but pull apart as the door opens and the doctor and the tech come in with the machine.
At the house later Katie smiles at her girlfriend as she watches her hang the ultrasound pictures of their triplets on the refrigerator. She hangs four in all-one of each baby and one of them together. Katie puts her arms around the young Slayer. "Should get you to bed-it's been a long day."
"Propositioning me?"
"No-just trying to take care of you." Katie kisses her softly. "So up to bed and I'll fix you a snack." She states as she smiles and Aly pouts. "That's not going to work."
"Had to try," she takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.
"Yes you did." Aly starts up the stairs but Katie takes her hand. "Wait-I have an idea."
Aly moves into her girl's arms, "And what would that be?"
"Why don't I get you all settled on the couch, go rent a few movies and we'll watch them while we eat?"
"Like that," they kiss softly.
"So it's a date," smiles Katie and they kiss again.
"That mean we can sit in the back and make out?" Aly raises an eyebrow and smiles.
"Sorry-strictly cuddling."
"Cuddling is nice." Aly admits as she kisses her one more time. They walk hand-in-hand to the living room.
Willow is standing in the kitchen later looking at the pictures of the babies. She smiles and touches each one, "Hey-I'm your grandma." She feels arms around her waist and smiles as she leans into them.
"Pretty cool huh?" asks Kennedy.
"Yeah-I just worry."
"Me too-sometimes, but I have a good feeling." Willow turns in her arms and kisses her softly. Before things can get too heated Alex jogs down the stairs.
"Mom-" he starts but stops. "Sorry-" he smiles and they pull apart. "Can I go to the movies with Jillian?"
"Who's Jillian?" asks Kennedy.
"A girl in my Algebra class-" he looks from Willow to Kennedy and then back again.
"How old is she?" Kennedy asks.
"Fourteen-" he looks away.
"And how old are you?" his mama asks.
"Twelve-almost thirteen."
"And how old do you have to be to date?"
"Mama-it's not a date."
"So someone else is going?" Willow questions.
"Not exactly-but we're working on homework after." He gives them the classic Willow puppy dog eyes. "Please?"
"What time does the movie start?" Willow's eyes meet his.
"Six-thirty."
"Let us talk-" says his mom.
"Thanks-" he smiles.
"That doesn't mean yes," Kennedy informs him.
"But it doesn't mean no." He grabs an apple and jogs up the stairs.
"I can't do this again," whines the Slayer.
"Do what sweetie?"
"He's my baby Will-" she pouts.
"He's not a baby-not sure he ever was," she smiles.
"Your point?"
"Just- it's one movie."
"And six months from now when Erin, Ellie, Kristen and Kara ask us the same question, we tell them yes too?" Willow looks suddenly unsure. "Exactly." Again there is quiet, "We could take them-sit in the back."
"Like that plan-" she smiles. "But something tells me he won't."
"Probably not-but it's that or he stays home," states the Slayer.
"I hope it's a good movie," the redhead rolls her eyes.
Kennedy smirks, "Not planning on watching it." Willow smiles and leans in to kiss her. Their lips meet as the back door opens; Annie and Jake come inside.
"Do you two ever stop?"
"Only when it's absolutely necessary."
"It's necessary-trust me," smiles the young Slayer.
Kennedy mock glares at her daughter and leans in to kiss her redhead again. She opens her eyes and smiles at the girl as if to say ha ha. To her surprise Annie just pulls Jake into a passionate kiss-her tongue searches out his though he seems a bit reluctant at first, still not sure if he's safe if the older Slayer gets angry. However as Annie's hands pull him closer still he relaxes. Kennedy breaks the kiss and can't help but smile. "You'll so pay for that."
Annie breaks the kiss and smiles, "I'm waiting." She bites her bottom lip.
"Not for long-training room in ten," states her mama.
Willow puts her hand on Kennedy's shoulder- "Tomorrow-movie remember?"
"You're lucky-" smiles Kennedy.
"Right-" Annie takes Jake's hand and leads him towards the living room. Willow and Kennedy go up the stairs.
In the living room Aly and Katie are snuggled on the couch watching a movie as Annie and Jake walk in. "Hey-" smiles Katie, "Why aren't you guys out on a date?"
"Thought we'd stay in with you-" says Jake. "Unless you don't want-" he looks at Annie unsure.
"No-no, that's great. After the movie maybe we can play a board game?"
"Sounds good," smiles Annie. The young couple sits on other couch across from their twin.
Hours later the movie is finished and Jake and Annie are making out on the couch. Hands are stating to verge on naughty touching. As Aly watches she fights to keep tears away. Katie sees the intimacy is upsetting her girl she clears her throat- and they stop, looking up at her. "Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly?" she asks.
"Ah-" he looks toward his sister-suddenly realizing Aly is close to tears, "Either-you pick."
"Monopoly?" asks Katie as she kisses Aly softly.
Aly is quiet- "I think I'm just-I'm tired."
Annie tries to talk her into staying, "I'll let you win," she smiles knowing the challenge will get to her.
"Let me win? Right you haven't beaten me since we were eight."
"So odds are on my side-"
"One game," says Aly.
"I'll get the board," Jake speaks as he takes Annie's hand and they leave the room.
"You okay?" Aly nods, "They didn't mean-"
"I know-hormones I think-It's just hard."
"I get that-" she kisses her again.
At the theatre Alex and Jillian are sitting a few rows in front of his parents. The teens watch the movie-about halfway through Jillian slides her hand into his and he smiles.
From behind them Kennedy tenses as she sees the move, 'Did you see that?' she asks her redhead in her mind.
'Hard to miss Sweetie-the screen's like 30 feet wide.'
'No-not the movie. She's holding his hand.' She starts to stand but Willow stoops her.
'He doesn't seem to be complaining Kennedy,' she says matter of factly.
Kennedy pouts and Willow smiles as she leans in and kisses her. 'It's okay-'
'I don't like it!'
'It's part of growing up.'
'I don't want him to grow up," she buries her head against Willow's shoulder. The witch presses her lips to her Slayer's.
Pillow Talk
Just a little transition to the heavy stuff hope you enjoy it.
Aly and Katie are lying in bed. The young witch is spooned around her Slayer. She whispers into her ear, "You're not asleep."
"Can't-" she whispers back. "They aren't sleepy." Aly moves Katie's hand to rest just below her belly button. "Feel them?"
"Yeah-" she presses a kiss to her girl's temple. "Does it hurt?"
"No-it's more fluttery-not butterflies-but not bats either." She turns to face her lover.
Katie moves her hand slightly trying to feel more movement. She smiles as she feels a kick- "It still amazes me-" she kisses her girl softly and continues, "they're alive and growing inside you. Our babies-" she stops as she bites her lip. "And in a few months-they'll be here."
"All three of them-" their eyes meet and without words they just know their decision to try to have all three was the right one.
"Three little girls," says Katie with a smile.
"Not too little I hope-"
"The doctor said they were gaining weight-"
"I'd feel better if twenty-seven weeks wasn't so far away."
"Two weeks-it's not that long." She looks up and her eyes meet Aly's in the dark. "Ninety-five percent, I like the odds."
"One hundred is better-" her hand rubs her own stomach as if caressing the babies.
"Decided on names?" asks Katie trying to chance both the subject and the darkening mood.
"No-but Ellie and Erin made a list." She smiles, "Mostly boy names. I wasn't about to explain why I didn't think we'd need them."
Katie smiles and kisses her lips softly, "Not one to talk about sex?"
"Not to my little sisters, besides I'm more of an action girl." She pulls Katie into another kiss and her hands begin to tease the witch's body. She moans and bites her bottom lip.
"M-mmm-okay-stopping now." Katie pulls away as she spoons around her Slayer again. "So, let's hear the names."
"Fine," pouts her redhead. "There was Aidan, Mason, Grayson-"
"Where did they come up with these names?"
"Not sure-and the why has me a little worried too," she pauses then asks "Wanna hear the others?"
"Why not-"
Aly continues the list, "Berk, Bryce, Kaden-Keegan and Kennan."
"That all?"
"The rest were girl names-"
"We have names for girls right?"
"We have two-" smiles Aly.
"Maddie and Grace-" she smiles too as her hand moves to Aly's stomach. "Was there one on the list you liked?"
"Kyra-"
"Different-but I like it."
"I looked it up-it means light."
"Madison, Grace and Kyra?"
"Okay?" asks Aly.
"Yeah-definitely okay." She moves down and presses her lips to Aly's stomach. "Hear that? You've got names."
Aly's hands stoke Katie's hair, "Come here," she whispers softly. Katie moves back up her lover's body and heir lips meet in a gently kiss.
"Time to sleep-" her words get more firm, "Hear that little ones? Mom needs to rest."
Days pass and turn slowly into weeks. Doctors' visits become more frequent and lengthier. Specialists check both the triplets and their mother. The doctors seem encouraged by the progress. Week twenty-seven comes and there is a quiet celebration.
Later that night Willow and Kennedy lie in bed wrapped in each other's arms. "Cake and ice cream was a nice touch," smiles Willow as her eyes meet Kennedy's.
"I thought it was a good idea-get everyone to relax a little."
"It was kind of tense-the waiting-but now," the redhead stops and looks away.
"Now they have a chance-a good chance," the Slayer finishes for her wife.
"Yeah-but-" tears fall- "so much could still go wrong."
"Willow-listen to me." She looks at her Slayer's face. "We have to be strong," the redhead nods. "Can you be strong?"
Willow nods, "I can be when I'm with Aly and Katie-but when I'm with you can I be just a little scared?"
Kennedy pulls her tighter and presses her lips to her girl's forehead. "With me you can always be whatever you need to be."
"Okay-" whispers the witch. Her Slayer kisses her forehead again. "I'm scared Kennedy-scared they won't be all right, scared of what it'll do to Aly and Katie if they're not. I want them to be okay."
"We'll be okay-we'll all be okay. I promise Will-I promise." She holds her tighter still as she pulls her redhead on top of her and hugs her.
Annie rests on Jake's chest as his hand caresses her bare back. "You're quiet tonight. Something wrong?" he asks softly.
"Nah-I'm okay-" she lies. He chuckles gently and she can't help but smile, "What?"
"You're such a bad liar," he states.
"It's mom's fault."
"You say it like honesty is a bad thing." He tilts her head so that he can see her face. "It's not."
"Sometimes it is."
"Like now- when you don't want to talk?"
"It's not that I don't want to talk to you, it's just hard." She searches his face for understanding.
"I get that-" they are quiet. "Annie you can't-we can't control everything that happens around us." She begins to cry. "The doctors will do everything they can for them-before they're born and after-"
"I'm a Slayer-what good is that if I can't help the people I love?"
He holds her tight and kisses her lips softly, "You can't fix everything-"
"I don't want to fix everything-I just want-I need them to be okay."
Her tears fall and Jake whispers, "I know-shhhh-I know." The unsure teenager tries to comfort her.
Aly sleeps in Katie's arms, Katie however can't seem to turn her mind off-sleep evades her. The doctor's words, words they didn't share with the others fill her mind. She slowly moves to rest her lips against Aly's stomach. As she moves back slightly her hand replaces her lips, "You know I love you right?" she pauses as if waiting for an answer then continues, "I need you to fight-to be strong-to be Slayers show them they're wrong." She wipes away tears. "Show them that you'll stay put till week thirty four-seven weeks, can you do that for Mama?"
"A piece of cake," says Aly, her voice shaky. "We'll show them." Her hand finds her stomach while the other finds Katie's hand.
"I thought you were-they'll be okay," her voice more sure.
"I know," states Aly simply. Katie moves beside her and their lips meet in a gentle kiss. "It's okay to worry-" she kisses her again.
"I love them all so much-I don't know what I'll do if-" Aly kisses her again stopping her words. Katie cries as Aly holds her close. Aly whispers comforting words as her hands caress Katie's body. Soon they find their way under her nightshirt and to her breasts. "We shouldn't-" whispers Katie as her girl squeezes lightly and she bites her lip to stifle a moan. As Aly's actions continue the witch moans loudly. "Feels so good-but Aly-stop-" the girl is surprised by her lover's words and freezes unsure.
"You don't want-?"
"I do but you shouldn't exert yourself it's not safe for them."
"I just want to show you how much I love you."
"Tell me instead-" smiles Katie.
"Okay-" she smiles, "I love you."
"Not like that-" smirks the teenager.
"I don't under-" her words stop. "You want me to-"
"Talk dirty?-Have phone sex minus the phone? Yeah-okay?"
"I've never-I mean-I don't know how-"
"Maybe we should just sleep."
"Where are you?"
"On my big bed all alone," answers Katie.
"What are you doing?"
"Wishing you were here with me so I could touch you-"
"You done this before?"
"No-but I watch a lot of television."
"Right-what are you wearing?" asks Aly.
At those words the young witch sits up and pulls her shirt over her head. "Nothing-"
Aly breath hitches, "You're so beautiful. I'd like to touch all of you-"
"Yeah-where would you touch me?" She lies back down on the bed.
"Your breasts-I'd start there with my fingers. I'd stroke them till they were hard peeks-" at Aly's words Katie's hands did what was said. They both moan. "Then I'd slide my fingers down your body." Aly's eyes are shut-her mind sees her words her body feels the reactions without using the needed energy. "Touch your skin-tease it-" Katie is breathing with difficulty now as her fingers touch her own skin. "Lower and lower," her mind pictures her fingers slipping into soft wet folds. Katie moans as she touches herself. "So wet-for me-" Katie writhes under her own fingers as she slips two inside. "Slow-slow strokes-then my tongue would-" Katie explodes and Aly smiles. She opens her eyes and watches her girl.
Later after Katie has recovered, Aly lies in her arms, "That was wow-"
"Yeah-it felt real-" confirms the young Slayer.
"It was definitely real-still got Jell-O legs." She smiles and they kiss softly. "You okay?"
"I'm good-" she smirks.
"Never a question," she smiles and they kiss again. "I mean-the babies," her eyes rest on Aly's.
"They're kicking around-naptime's over for now."
"Sorry-" says Katie.
"It was worth it." She pauses and smiles. "Maybe if I read them a story they'd go back to sleep."
"Worth a try," says Aly. With those words the naked witch moves from the bed to the adjoining room and returns with a book in hand as she crawls back in beside her girl. "What did you find?"
"The Little Engine who Could." Katie smiles. Aly curls into her lover and listens as she begins to read.
Counting the Days
Counting the days-that was beginning to take its toll on Katie. She was starting to feel useless-bringing Aly her meals and sitting with her seemed like so little when her girl was going through so much. The doctor visits were longer and more frequent, blood work and discussion of possible scenarios wore on them both. Thirty-four weeks seemed so far away-when it was three days short of week twenty-nine.
A day later the young witch is sitting in the bay window doing homework as Aly sleeps a few feet away on the couch. Willow walks in and smiles at them. She carries a cup of tea to Katie. "Thanks-" says Katie as she smiles a tired smile.
"You need help with that?" she looks towards the book.
"Nah-just need to read the next two chapters-test tomorrow."
"You mean reread?" questions the redhead. Katie shakes her head. "You can't get behind-"
"More important things going on then school," she looks toward the couch and the woman there.
"You have to learn to balance."
"Not so easy-doctors and-one test-it's no big deal."
"You think not-" comes a voice from the couch.
"Aly-" she looks to the young Slayer. "You should be sleeping."
"And it sounds like you've not been studying-" states Aly.
"I'm studying-" she holds up the book. "Promise don't worry."
Willow looks at her daughter and her girlfriend, "Why don't I help you?"
"That's a great idea Mom," agrees the young Slayer.
Katie doesn't seem as pleased, "It's okay really-I'm fine." Losing her control- "I just need a break," Katie leaves the room.
Aly looks at her mom unsure and starts to stand. Willow moves to her side, "Give her a few minutes."
"I guess-" Aly's eyes meet her mom's, "I think I forget that this is hard on her too-I expect too much from her-"
"No more than she expects from herself-you both need to learn to ask for help. There's nothing wrong with that."
"I know, it's just-I get it, I do-it's just hard."
"We'll work on it."
"Yeah-" assures the young redhead.
"Why don't you lie back down and I'll go check on Katie?" asks Willow.
"I should-" she nods, "Okay-tell her I love her?"
"How about she and I talk, then when she comes back inside you give her that message yourself?"
"Like that plan," smiles Aly as she lies down on the couch. Willow kisses her forehead. "Thanks Mom."
"Anytime," the redhead leaves.
A little later Willow walks up to Katie who is swinging on the swing on the back porch. She sits beside her but doesn't speak. Katie finally looks at her as tears fall- "I'm sorry-"
"It's okay-kinda surprised it hasn't happened before now."
"What you think I'm a jerk?"
"No-I think you're worried and way over stressed. It's okay to be a little on edge. I'd wonder if you weren't."
"I guess," agrees the teenager.
"I have an idea," states Willow. Katie looks unsure. "Let's try meditating for awhile."
"How can it help?"
Willow's reply, "How can it hurt?" She waits for an answer when she gets none she speaks again. "We try, if you don't feel more relaxed after-I'll change diapers for a month."
"All of them?" smiles Katie.
"All of them," confirms Willow.
"You so have a deal."
"Good," she stands and Katie stands as well. The redhead hugs the younger woman and Katie holds her for a few moments. "Together, we can do this."
"I hope-" whispers the mother-to-be.
Willow tightens her hold on Katie as the tears start again only harder. "I got you-" she says softly. "Just let it out."
From the kitchen window Kennedy watches as her redhead shows her strength, she can't help but smile.
Week thirty is a little less stressful for everyone. The new ultra sound pictures are put on the refrigerator next to the others. However all of that changes quickly two days short of week thirty-one.
Katie is awake watching Aly sleep-she smiles and touches her lover's face with her fingers and Aly's eyes open. "Morning she whispers."
"Morning-" says Katie as she places a soft kiss on her Slayer's lips. "Sleep any?"
"A little-" she says honestly as they lie facing each other.
"Ready for breakfast?" Aly doesn't answer that's when Katie sees the pained look on her face. "Aly-?"
She lets out a strained breath, "I'm okay-" another pain hits, "Or not-" she struggles to keep her breathing under control.
"What is it?"
"It hurts-"
"Contractions?"
"I don't think-I don't know-get my mom." Katie scrambles from the bed and out the door.
Later Katie paces in the waiting room while Willow and Kennedy stand hand-in-hand staring at the door Aly was taken through nearly an hour ago. "What's taking so long?" asks Katie, tears falling as she stops in front of them.
Kennedy takes her hand and forces a smile, "They're be out soon-come on, let's all sit down."
"I can't," says the teenager. "I need to see her-I need to know they're okay."
The door opens and Doctor Westridge walks toward them. The doctor sees them and walks over to them. "We have her settled into a room."
"A room-" Katie can't finish her sentence.
"More contractions?" asks Willow.
"No-" she starts and is interrupted by Katie.
"No contractions?"
"Remember on her last appointment we talked about her blood pressure being slightly elevated?" Katie nods. "It's extremely elevated now-"
"Why? I mean it's been a good week no stress-"
"It's pre-eclampsia, it happens with multiples."
"What can you-how do you treat it-make it go away?" Katie has questions and wants answers.
"It won't go away until the babies are delivered."
"It's too early-" Katie starts.
"They can treat it with bed rest," offers Kennedy. "Right?" She looks to the doctor.
"We'll start there-keep her off her feet totally, see how it goes from there."
"Can I see her?" Asks the teen.
"Room 2312-" Katie looks from Willow to Kennedy and then back again.
"We'll be up in a little while," smiles Willow. "Give you time alone-to talk." Katie nods and walks away.
"Okay-" says Kennedy as she tightens her hold on Willow's hand. "What didn't you tell her?"
"We'll give it a few days, a week at the most if there isn't significant improvement-" she hesitates and starts again. "Aly's health and safety has to be my first concern."
Willow nods her understanding and then turns to bury her face into Kennedy's shoulder. Kennedy holds her and whispers in her ear, "Gotta be strong-" she can feel the redhead nod against her.
Aly lies on her left side as instructed and stares at the door. As it opens she wipes the tears from her eyes. Katie walks in slowly and presses a kiss to her lips as she reaches her. "I'm sorry," whispers her Slayer.
"No-it's not your fault-it's another multiple baby thing."
"Yeah-?"
"Yeah-" she kisses her again. "You need to rest, relax and just let me do everything else."
"Got it-resting see?" she forces a smile.
"I see-" she pulls a chair beside the bed and sits next to her girl. "Close your eyes-" Aly does what she's told. "Good- now I want you to think about the lake." Both smile at the mental picture that the words generate. "Remember the last time we were there?"
"I remember-" whispers Aly like it's a secret. Her soft voice continues, "We made love-" opening her eyes she reaches for her girl's hand and their fingers lace instinctively just before her lips kiss Katie's hand. "I love you."
"I love you-"
"I'm scared-" admits the young Slayer.
"It's okay to be scared-"
"So you're scared too?" Their eyes meet.
"A little-yeah, but we'll do what the doctors say-you'll stay here for awhile and they'll be okay-you'll be okay."
"What if they can't get my blood pressure down?"
"Happy thoughts-the lake, the babies all home tucked in their cribs beside our bed-safe-happy thoughts."
"Happy thoughts-" agrees the young redhead. She presses her lips to Katie's.
Three days later things are pretty much the same. The nurse checks Aly's blood pressure and writes on the chart. Katie watches nervously. "The same," states the nurse. "The doctor will be in this afternoon." Katie nods and the nurse leaves.
The teenager moves to the side of her Slayer's bed and sits on it next to her. "I don't understand why it's still high-I've done everything she asked," she says softly.
"I know-" she strokes Aly's cheek. "Let's just keep trying and when she gets here we'll listen to what she has to say."
"You know what she'll say-but it's too soon. They're just thirty-one weeks."
"And a day-" says Katie as she forces a smile. Tears slip down the young Slayer's cheeks though she tries to hold them back. "No-shhhh-calm-take a deep breath." Aly does what her girl says and then lets it out slowly. "Good thoughts-please?"
"I'll try-" she brushes at the tears. Katie leans in and kisses her lips.
That afternoon Dr. Westridge and a specialist check in on the couple. Willow and Kennedy are there as well. Katie holds Aly's hand as the specialist talks. "As long as you're not showing any adverse effects we can wait. The babies are stable."
"But you have to understand that your health is the main concern," Westridge adds.
She starts to protest but to her amazement Katie speaks, "No matter what." Their eyes meet. "I can't let anything happen to you."
"But you know I'm a Sla-"
"Strong-" interrupts Kennedy. "We know-" she steps to her daughter's side. "And it'll help but it doesn't make you invincible."
Aly's hand goes protectively to her stomach. "I can't lose them." She looks at the people in the room. "I fought too hard, sacrificed too much to give up now-"
Katie puts her hand on Aly's and then kisses her softly, "Nobody is giving up-"
"We just want you to be prepared-no surprises," states Dr. Westridge.
"They need thirty-four weeks and I'll get them there," her words sure.
"Aly-" Katie starts but she stops knowing arguing now isn't the best idea. Her girl's resolve face was firmly in place. "Okay-but ah-one day at a time."
Time passed like it was in slow motion-twenty days seemed an eternity. Kara and Kristen made a large calendar to hang in the hospital room. It had drawings of cartoon characters and cute sayings. It made Aly smile and that was a much-needed event. As twenty days turned into nineteen and then eighteen and seventeen-Aly's blood pressure stayed unchanged.
On day sixteen it was elevated slightly in the morning but by noon had actually dropped to its lowest in weeks. The operating room that they had scheduled was cancelled. That night Aly lie in bed, her hand stroking her large stomach. "I love you-we can do this-" she whispers.
Katie who is asleep with her head on the bed hears words through the fog of her mind and forces her eyes open. "You okay?" she asks as she sits up.
"Go back to sleep-" Aly touches her cheek. "Rest-in fact you should go home so you can really sleep."
"I'll go home when you do-it's lonely there without you."
Aly leans up and kisses her lips softly. "Fifteen days to go," she says as she looks at the sun appearing on the horizon.
"Want me to mark the calendar?"
"Yeah-" Aly smiles.
Katie gets up and goes to the wall across from the bed. As she does she gets the marker and marks off the day. "It's official."
At the Langdon house Willow and Kennedy are lying in each other's arms. Neither has been asleep for a while. "You awake?" asks Willow softly.
"I'm awake-" Kennedy turns slightly and kisses her redhead.
"Mmmm-morning." Smiles the witch. "That was nice."
"Nice-"Kennedy moves over her and kisses her again. This time the kiss escalates as lips open and close together. Soon tongues join the activity and the Slayer moans. As they pull away for air Kennedy bites her bottom lip, "And very necessary." They kiss still again but stop instantly as the phone rings. Before the third ring the Slayer has it and speaks, "Hello-" she listens as the person talks on the other end. "Okay-right-we'll be there in twenty minutes." She hangs up the phone.
"Aly?" panic tries to take control.
"She's okay-there's another consultation. They want us there."
"But she's okay?"
"She sounded okay," assures the younger woman. She leans over and they kiss again. "Remember where we were?" She smiles trying to relax the situation.
"Definitely won't forget," Willow smiles and kisses her too. As the kiss starts to get more intense she pulls away, "We need to go-"
"Right-" says Kennedy as she kisses her again.
"Now-" their lips meet again neither willing to stop. "She needs us-" tries the redhead.
"I need you-" her strong hands begin to tease her witch's body.
Willow is lost until the phone rings again. Shocked back into the reality of the day they both whine and then slip out of bed, "Yeah-" says the redhead. "No-we're up." The redhead listens, "We're up-now go away. See you in a little while." She hangs up the phone.
"Smart girl-" smiles Kennedy. "Like her mom."
Willow smiles and raises an eyebrow playfully, "Flirt-" they start toward the bathroom.
At the hospital they listen as the doctors explain the treatment they would like to start. Steroid shots to help the lungs of the babies mature faster. "It'll help?" asks Katie.
"Yes-" assures the specialist.
The young Slayer's eyes meet Katie's, "Then we do it."
"We'll start this afternoon-we'll do a regular exam and go from there."
"Okay-" answers Aly.
Hours later they are doing an ultra sound. The doctors study the monitor carefully. "No surprises-" smiles Westridge. She begins to measure the babies as she talks. "A-is still here." She traces the pattern on Aly's stomach. "Head down-feet here."
Katie and Aly smile, "How much do you think she weighs?" asks the Slayer.
"Hard to say exactly."
"Four pounds?" asks Aly.
"Closer to three six or three seven. The heartbeat sounds strong."
"That's good," smiles Katie as she squeezes her lover's hand.
Dr. Westridge speaks, "Did the nurse talk to you about monitoring the kick counts?"
"Yeah-but I'm not sure how to tell who's doing the kicking," admits the young redhead.
"By position-A is here, then B-here a little to the right and higher." Again she shows the location on Aly's swollen stomach. "And C is here to the left-"
"A, B and C-" she looks at her redhead.
"Maddie, Grace and Kyra-" corrects the young mother-to-be with a smile. They both look to the screen.
"But-" starts the specialist.
"Of course," says Dr. Westridge. The man looks at her unsure as they turn their attention to the monitor as well.
"We should start the injections now," the man speaks.
On day twelve Aly is monitoring kick counts as Katie keeps track on a notepad. "They're like super active today," says the young witch.
Aly smiles, "Really-I hadn't noticed." Katie mock glares at her. "What-" asks her Slayer playfully.
Katie kisses her softly and smiles, "I like the joking around-I've missed it."
"Yeah-it's a good day. My blood pressure's down and no shots so-" Aly kisses her girl again. "It's all good."
But no sooner are the words out of her mouth than she feels a slight pain in her stomach. "Aly-more kicking?"
"I don't think so-contraction maybe-"
"It's okay-calm she told us to expect them remember?"
"Yeah-just-nothing has been really normal-so why should this be?"
"Want me to get the nurse?" asks Katie and her Slayer nods.
Hours later the contractions are coming in a more regular pattern. Dr. Westridge is there with the specialist. "You're dilated to two-"
"No-" argues Aly.
"We're going to try to stop the contractions or at least slow them down," states the specialist.
"How?" asks a nervous Willow.
"A drug called magnesium sulfate," he answers.
"Will it hurt the babies?" asks Katie.
"No-but there are some side effects," admits Westridge.
"For Aly?" asks Katie.
"Yes-it's draining and it could cause some double vision."
"Do it-" says Aly.
"With your blood pressure-" starts Westridge.
"Do it-I'll be fine."
"Aly-" starts Katie.
"You know I'm right-every hour buys them a better chance." Katie nods and kisses her redhead.
Across the room Kennedy has her arm around her redhead in their heads they talk, 'She's a Slayer-she'll be okay.'
'Right-' says the witch. 'Piece a cake.'
Twelve hours later as daylight filters into the room and day eleven starts Westridge examines the strip coming from the monitor. He walks to Willow, Kennedy, and Katie who are standing at the side of Aly's bed. "They have slowed some but no marked change."
Aly's eyes open, "What time is it?"
"About six," answers Katie as she takes her Slayer's hand.
"Your blood pressure is stable and as long as that's the case we can wait."
"Okay-" her eyes close again.
Katie looks at him, "And if it doesn't stay stable?"
"We get them out as quickly as possible."
"A cesarean?" asks Willow.
"I know it's not what they planned but sometimes plans change."
A tear slips unnoticed down Katie's cheek, "Ah-I need some air." She looks down at Aly and touches her cheek with her free hand. Pressing a kiss to her cheek she looks at Willow and Kennedy. "Stay with her?"
"We'll be here," answers Kennedy.
"What me to come with?" asks Willow.
"No-I'm okay-" though she knows the words aren't true she lets the teenager leave alone knowing Annie and Jake are in the waiting room.
Katie walks out into the hallway and passed her brother and Annie. They stand- "Katie-" says Jake. She stops and turns to him with tears in her eyes. He steps to her and hugs her tightly. Annie moves to them and puts a hand on her shoulder.
"They might have to do a c-section. She'll be so upset."
"No-she'll be so happy they're here and safe it won't matter," tries Annie.
Katie doesn't respond, she cries harder in her brother's arms.
That afternoon Aly is eating lunch though it is hard with the headache she has. She pushes the tray away and leans back, lying on her side. "Not hungry?" asks Willow.
"Tired," she says simply.
"I could feed you," volunteers her mom.
"It's okay-kinda sucks anyway." She smiles.
"Then sleep," she presses a kiss to her daughter's forehead.
"Okay-" her eyes close.
As night falls Willow and Kennedy sit together in a chair across the room while Katie sits on the side of the bed with her redhead. Aly is breathing through a hard contraction, "Stronger than the others?"
"Yeah-" her face pained again.
"I'm gonna call for the nurse," she reaches for the buzzer as another stronger contraction hits her Slayer. Aly grabs her hand as she tries to stay focused.
"May I help you?"
"Need someone in here now-please." She turns her attention back to her girl. Kennedy and Willow move to the bedside as well.
Dr. Westridge is examining her and when finished he looks at the young mothers-to be, "Today's the day-you're dilated to five."
"No way-" starts Aly. "Five-that's half way."
"We're going to set up an operating room and the support staff-we'll move you in a little while."
"Operating room?" questions Aly.
"Only as back up-"
"So no cesarean?" Katie looks at him unsure.
"Not right now." She leaves the room.
Hours later Aly breathes through a contraction, the nurse monitoring her blood pressure nods at Westridge as the contraction ends. "Almost ready to push-you okay?"
"I'm good," assures Aly. Katie kisses her forehead. "Hey Mom-" she forces a tired smile.
"Hey-need some ice?"
"Ice-oh yeah-" Katie feeds her the crushed ice with a spoon from a cup on the table beside them.
Aly starts her breathing as the next contraction starts and Katie quietly encourages her. After two more the doctor examines her and she smiles, "Let's meet the first baby-next contraction you're going to push."
"Okay-" says Aly. Her breathing quicken as the contraction starts, "Now-" she pushes as Katie counts, then pushes again with each contraction for the next twenty minutes. Finally the baby crowns and Willow begins to cry.
"I can see her," whispers Katie as she leans close to her lover.
"One more push-" instructs Westridge and the baby's head emerges. "Pant don't push," she says. She clears the baby's mouth and rotates its head gently. "Little push." As Aly does what she is told the baby is born. The doctor places the crying child on Aly's stomach.
"She's okay?" asks both girls together.
"He looks good," states Westridge.
Katie looks at Aly and Aly looks just as confused, "Did you say he?" They look down at their son. "Definitely a boy," they both smile.
"Cut the cord?" Katie nods and cuts between the tied off areas.
The nurse places the baby momentarily in Aly's arms. "He's really here-"
"Yeah-" Katie touches his small hand.
"We need to borrow him for a little bit-check him out."
Reluctantly Aly gives him up. Her eyes follow him protectively across the room but she relaxes as she sees her parents there too. Another contraction starts. "Need to push."
"One-two-three-" Katie begins to count and within minutes the second baby is born, "It's a boy-" announces Katie.
Aly smiles as she hears the crying, "A boy-" she touches his shoulder as the doctor leaves him on her stomach and Katie again cuts the cord. Katie kisses her Slayer. "We have boys."
"Yeah-" she smiles.
As the nurse takes the second child to be examined as well a monitor starts to beep, "What's wrong?" asks Aly.
"Push now Aly," she hears the concern in the doctor's voice and pushes though she isn't having a contraction.
"What's wrong?" asks Katie.
"Again Aly," she orders. As another alarm sounds she moves to put a mask over Aly's face. The others move into action. "We have to get the baby now-" they are set to begin the emergency cesarean section. Nurses usher Willow and Kennedy from the room though they protest.
As they try to send Katie out she refuses, "No-I won't leave them alone."
They drape Aly in sheets and begin the operation. At the first sign of blood a nauseas Katie sits down next to Aly's head. The other side of the drape out of view but her curiosity peeks and so does she. She sees the small baby being handed to the NICU doctor and tears begin to flow as she realizes she didn't hear a cry.
Needing a Miracle
Katie sits at Aly's bedside. She holds her redhead's hand as she sleeps-still under from the anesthetic. She wipes away a tear with her free hand and takes a deep breath. She forces a smile as she sees her girl's eyes flutter and then open. "Hey you-" she whispers. "You're back." She presses a kiss to her Slayer's forehead.
"What happened?" asks Aly trying to focus.
"They did an emergency c-section."
"The baby?"
"She's-" Katie's words stop as she tries to compose herself.
"Katie-is she-" tears start to form.
"No-she's alive.-She's in the NICU-but it's not good."
"I want to see her-" says Aly as she tries to sit up. She winces in pain.
Katie puts a hand on her shoulder, "You shouldn't try to move-the stitches."
"I need to see her-"
"You will-I brought pictures." She reaches into her jacket pocket and brings them out to show her lover. Aly looks at each one and tears fall. "The boys are doing well-they're going to bring them in anytime we want."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah-should I tell them now is good?" Katie asks. Aly nods but as Katie starts to leave she reaches for her hand. Their eyes meet and she pulls Aly tight as they hold each other and cry. "She'll be okay," whispers the witch.
"What if she's not?" Katie doesn't answer.
Outside the NICU Willow and Kennedy are waiting to see their granddaughter. As Dr. Westridge comes out she forces a weak smile their way. "Just a few minutes."
"Okay-" agrees Kennedy. She tightens her hold on her redhead's hand and they follow the doctor back inside. As they approach the baby Willow stops. "Will?"
"I can't-" her words stop as tears fall.
"You be okay here?" asks Kennedy. Willow nods. "Be right back." She squeezes her wife's hand and lets go as she continues with the doctor.
Kennedy stops just short of the incubator and takes a deep breath-she feels arms wrap around her waist and leans back into Willow's body. "Changed my mind," states the redhead.
"You don't have to-I'm okay," assures her Slayer.
Willow turns Kennedy to face her, "We're a team-"
"That we are," agrees Kennedy with a shaky smile. "So let's go see our granddaughter." The redhead nods and takes her hand. They go the rest of the way together.
Dr. Westridge talks, telling them about the different machines but they aren't listening. They are simply taken away by the little girl struggling for life. "She's so little-" whispers Willow.
"A little over three and a half pounds," states the nurse standing next to them. Kennedy is silent as she watches the baby fight to take each breath with the help of the machine. The nurse speaks again. "Her lungs weren't as mature as her brothers."
"But she's gonna-" Willow stops as the uncertainty in the nurse's eyes reaches hers.
"Does she have a name?" asks the nurse.
"Ah-yeah-ah-I can't think-" stammers the redhead.
Kennedy speaks for the first time, "Kyra-her name is Kyra."
In Aly's room she is holding one little boy while Katie holds the other. She touches his cheek and kisses his forehead. "Hi-I'm your mom-" she kisses him again and looks up at Katie who moves to sit on the bed beside her. "They're identical. How are we gonna tell them apart?"
"Not sure-for now I'm thinking the hospital bracelets may stay on for awhile." They both smile.
Aly looks at the bracelet on the baby's arm, "I'm not sure how baby Langdon helps."
"Baby Langdon?" She looks at the baby bracelet on her son's arm as she holds him. "Guess Madison and Grace are out?" She smiles at Aly.
"Yeah unless you want them to hate us."
"There's always Ellie and Erin's list," suggests Katie.
"True-you like any of them?"
"Don't really remember any. You have the list?"
"Maybe in the hospital bag-" says Aly.
Katie lays the other baby in Aly's arms and stands to go across the room. She gets the bag from the closet and smiles as she looks at the little boys in her Slayer's arms. "Wish I had my camera." Aly smiles up at her. Katie finds the list and sits back down next to her. "Let's see what we've got." She begins to read the list. "Grayson?"
Aly shakes her head as she looks at her sons. "What's next?"
"Aidan-" states Katie.
"Aidan-" repeats Aly as she looks at the boys. "Anyone want to be Aidan?" The boy in her left arm fusses.
Katie smiles, "Looks like we have a volunteer," she picks her baby up from her Slayer's arm. "Aidan-" she smiles down at him and looks to the Slayer. "Aidan Samuel?"
"Yeah-I like it," agrees Aly. "Now who are you?" She takes the small hand of the baby in her arms.
"Kenny?"
"Nah-but wasn't there a Ken-something on the list?"
"Kennan-" supplies Katie.
"Kennan-" she looks at the baby.
"Adam Kennan?" Katie looks at her unsure.
"Adam and Aidan-" says Aly. "Okay?"
Katie nods as she presses a kiss to Aly's lips and then to the forehead of each child. The babies begin to fuss- "Shhhh-what's a matter guys?"
"Maybe they need changed," says Aly.
Katie checks Aidan as Aly checks Adam, "Not wet."
"That probably means hungry."
"Should I get the nurse to bring-" but before Katie can finish her Slayer begins to nurse Adam. "Guess not." She smiles as she watches the baby, then looks into Aly's eyes, "Sure about this?"
"No-but I want to try-okay?"
"Definitely okay." She cradles Aidan and gets him quiet, "Gonna have to wait your turn little guy."
There is a soft knock on the door, then Willow and Kennedy both step inside. They stop when they see the baby nursing. "It's okay," assures Aly. They come in hand-in-hand.
"I thought-" Willow starts.
"Me too-but I changed my mind for now-who knows about later."
Katie decides to introduce Aidan, "This is Aidan-" they look at the little boy in her arms.
"Aidan-" Willow steps forward and touches his hand, "Hi Aidan I'm your Gran-" smiles the redhead. She looks at Katie, who without words places the infant in her arms.
Kennedy steps closer to Willow and touches the little boy's hand, "He's so little," she whispers. "I'd forgotten how tiny newborns are."
"It's been awhile," smiles Willow. "Want to hold him?"
"I'll just watch for now-" she does just that.
The next day Aly naps as Willow and Kennedy each hold a baby. Katie kisses Aly's forehead and speaks as she moves toward the babies. "You sure you're okay with them?"
"It all comes back-" smiles Willow.
"I shouldn't be too long," assures the new mom. "I just want to see how's she's doing-"
"Want me to go with you?" asks Kennedy.
"No-stay with them-" she looks toward Aly.
In the NICU an hour later Katie still stands at the side of Kyra's incubator. Tears fall as she watches the baby fight. "I have to go check on your mom now-" her words are soft and shaky. "I need you to keep fighting-okay?" Her words stop as she feels arms encircle her.
"She will-"
"Aly," Katie turns in her arms. "You should be in bed."
"I'm good-Slayer healing remember?"
"Actually no-I'd forgotten." They stand in silence.
"She looks like you-" says Aly.
"Aly-since you're a Slayer-does that make her one?"
The young Slayer considers the words. "Ah-all the girls in my family are-so I'd guess yes-why?"
"So Slayer healing-" their eyes meet. "You think?" But before the new mother can answer a buzzer sounds.
A nurse rushes to them and begins to check the baby, "You'll have to leave."
"No-" refuses Aly.
"She's our daughter," states Katie. Others join the first nurse and they examine the little girl. Someone ushers them out against their protests. They stand outside the NICU in each other's arms and cry.
Twenty minutes later Aly and Katie are sitting in the waiting area outside the NICU. A team of doctors walks toward them and Katie stands, Aly holds her hand though she stays seated. "Is she-"
"She's holding her own-we took her off the oxygen."
"Took her off-" questions Aly. "But she-"
"She's breathing without it." Katie looks at Aly and then back to the doctor. "Her lungs are clear-I can't explain it."
"You don't have to-" says Katie.
Hesitantly Aly asks, "She's gonna be okay?"
"It looks good, if she can gain weight-"
Aly hugs Katie and they both cry happy tears. The doctor stops knowing his words will not be heard.
In Aly's hospital room she nurses Aidan as an excited Katie tells Willow and Kennedy the good news for the second time. "I have to call my mom," she states as she walks to Aly and kisses her. "I won't be long."
"We'll be here-" says Aly with a smile as watches her love put Adam in his crib and go out the door.
Kennedy smiles at her daughter, "We should go too-tell everyone the news."
"And it's late you need to rest," Willow moves to her daughter's side. She kisses her forehead. "Need anything?"
"Adam-he'll be hungry soon-could you put him up here?"
"Sure," says the redhead. She picks up the baby and holds him while Aly gets situated. "Do you want to feed him at the same time?"
"I don't think I can."
"Sure you can-here," she turns the baby Aly is feeding and nestles him in like a football and then does the same on the other side with Adam. "See-?" She places pillows around them and looks up to see Aly smile. "What?"
"Wow-this will cut the nursing time in half-"
"Yeap-"
"Thanks Mom-"
Willow kisses her forehead again. "Anytime-"
Kennedy walks over and kisses each baby, and then her daughter, "Anything else you need?"
"A list of other tricks you know would be good," smiles Aly.
"I'll see what we can do-"
Later when Katie comes back in Aly is asleep while each baby nurses contentedly. She smiles and quietly gets her camera and takes a picture. She puts it away and then removes each baby one at a time and tucks them into the crib side-by-side. She is fixing Aly's gown as the young mother opens her eyes. "Katie-"
"Go back to sleep-"
"The boys?"
"Fed and falling asleep, now rest. I saw the nurse in the hallway-she's going to bring Kyra down for her next feeding."
"Here-to us?" Asks Aly with a smile.
"Yeah-they want to see if she'll nurse."
An hour later the door opens and the nurse comes in with Kyra. The newborn looks so small in the gown she is wearing but it can't dim the smiles of her parents. "Someone wants to see you," says the NICU nurse as she carries the baby over to Aly.
"Hey-" whispers the new mom as a tear slips down her face. "Look at you." Katie moves closer and smiles, her face wet with tears as well.
"Ready to give this a try?"
"I guess-" Aly is a bit nervous. The nurse hands her the baby and the young Slayer looks into the eyes of her daughter. "You look like your mama-" the baby wiggles around and Aly looks up to the others, unsure.
"She's fine-" assures the nurse as the baby begins to fuss. "She's just hungry."
"What if she won't nurse?"
"We'll try the bottle-" states the nurse. "I should have brought one-you get started and I'll be right back." She leaves.
"Katie-" Aly starts.
"What is it sweetie?"
"Could you hold her while I -"
"Love to-" she takes the little girl from her mom and smiles down at her as Aly gets her gown ready. "Hi baby girl-I'm your mama-" she kisses her on the forehead. She looks back at Aly who is smiling. "Ready?"
"Yeah-let's give it a try." Katie puts the baby in her girl's arms and Aly gets her to latch after a couple of tries. "There-" she smiles. "Now eat-" she waits for a few seconds but when the baby doesn't try to nurse she looks at Katie worried.
"Come on little one-" coaxes Katie. "You need to eat so you can come home with us." At those words the baby begins to eat.
"That's my girl-" smiles Aly.
Katie moves beside her on the bed and rubs her hand as she eats. Aly laces her fingers with Katie's free hand and that is how the nurse finds them when she returns with the bottle. "Guess you won't be needing this?"
"No-" smiles Aly.
A few days later Willow and Kennedy are helping Katie and Aly as they bring the boys home. The nursery adjacent to the new parents' room is finished thanks to the kids who worked while the others were gone. Aly and Katie put the sleeping boys into the same crib side-by-side. Katie sees the sadness in her Slayer's eyes and hugs her. "She'll be home soon," she assures as she kisses her lips softly.
"I know I just wish she could be here now."
The first night at home is hectic. The cries wake the new mothers and the others in the house. Kennedy turns and looks at the redhead beside her, "Would it be wrong to soundproof our walls?"
"They may need our help."
"Doing what?"
"They may sleep through the crying-" says Willow.
"You're kidding right?" She looks at her wife unsure. "No one could possibly sleep through that."
"It'll settle down in a few days-" she presses a kiss to her Slayer's lips. "Till then-" she raises an eyebrow, "we're awake."
"True-what have you got in mind?" asks the Slayer. Willow's smile grows broader in the dark as she wraps her arms around her lover and pulls her in for another kiss. Her hands begin to roam Kennedy's body working their way under her tank top. "Mmmm-like the way your mind works." Their lips meet again and begin a steady rhythm as they open and close. Soon tongues begin to explore and hands remove clothes. "Love you-" whispers the Slayer.
"Love you too-" her words are breathy as she kisses down Kennedy's neck and across her collarbone.
Kennedy's hands find their way to Willow's red locks and guide her where she needs her. Lips nip and kiss, then her tongue traces circles around one stiff peak and then the other. "Yes!-" moans the Slayer as the redhead begins to suckle lightly. "Goddess-" her eyes close tightly as she pleads, "please Will-" her prayers are answered as her girl moves lower still.
In the nursery Katie and Aly each hold a crying baby. They shake their heads and smile as they hear moaning from the other room. "You gotta be kidding me-" says Katie.
"We could do a sound proofing spell-" suggests Aly.
"Then we can't hear the boys."
"We can if we bring them to our room," she says.
"Just for a few days till they get use to it here."
"Right," agrees the young Slayer. "We'll move them back when Kyra comes home."
"Come on boys," says Katie with a smile as she puts Aidan in Aly's arms as well. "I'll grab the crib."
"Need help?" asks a cranky Annie from the doorway.
"Diapers," suggests Katie.
"Get'em, I'll get the crib." Without waiting for an answer the young Slayer picks up the crib with one hand. As they walk into the hallway they freeze as they hear Kennedy moan Willow's name.
"They keep that up I'll never be able to have sex again," declares Annie.
"You are so right-" agrees Aly.
"Ever think that's their plan?" asks Katie with a smile as she walks down the hall toward her room. Annie and Aly just stare after her.
Crazy
A week later the tired and stressed young mothers lie on the bed with a baby sleeping across each of them. "Are they ever going to get night and day straight?" asks Katie.
"Soon-" a pause, "I hope-" is Aly's soft reply. The little boy on her chest begins to stir- "No-just a few more minutes please." She cradles him and kisses his head. "That's a good boy."
Katie turns and lays Aidan next to his mom, "Be right back." She starts to get up.
"Where are you going?"
"Bathroom-then to fix some breakfast." She leans down and kisses Aly as she puts a pillow behind her son, "You be okay?"
"Yeah-we're good," she smiles up at her lover.
She kisses her again, "Pancakes or toast and eggs?"
"Surprise me."
Katie stands and smiles, "I'll see what I can do."
Downstairs the rest of the family sits around the table in a zombie-like state. Alex yawns then speaks, "I'm a teenager-I need sleep," he states matter-of-factly.
"We all do-" adds Annie.
"Sorry-" says a worried Katie from the bottom of the stairs.
Willow looks from her kids to the new mother, "It's okay-really. We'll get through it-all of us."
Katie nods and fights away a tear as she enters the room, "Are you sure?"
"No big-" says Annie with a smile. "Just grumbling-we love them you know."
"Yeah-I do too-" she looks at the people around her and then admits her worry, "but I'm not sure I can do this."
Annie looks at her parents, her expression one of concern and then she herds her younger sisters and brother out of the room promising a day at the park.
Willow moves over and wraps the teenager into a tight hug. The new mother begins to cry, "I can't do this-it's too much.-And Kyra isn't even home yet."
"Let's go walk-relax a little," suggests the redhead.
"I promised Aly breakfast," says the girl, her words soft.
"I got it-" assures Kennedy.
Katie nods and wipes her eyes as she follows Willow out the door. Kennedy adds more batter to the skillet.
Outside later Willow and Katie sit crossed legged meditating. The young woman slowly opens her eyes, "Better," asks the older one.
Katie smiles, "Actually-yeah."
"Katie babies need a lot-but to help them, you have to take care of yourself."
"I get that now-I'm just not sure how."
"Why don't you and Aly go out tonight. Go to dinner-see a movie."
"I couldn't-she won't leave them, besides we have to go to the hospital and feed Kyra."
"So you go feed her and then go out, Kennedy and I will watch the boys." Katie still isn't convinced, "At least talk to Aly about it?" Katie agrees.
In her bedroom Aly finishes nursing Adam and burps him then tucks him into his crib with his brother. Both boys are awake but content. She smiles down at them and looks to the door as it opens. She looks confused as she sees her mama with a tray of pancakes, milk and juice. "Morning-" says Kennedy.
"Morning," she sits back on the bed as Kennedy walks over to her and sets the tray on the nightstand. "Where's Katie? Is something wrong?"
"No-she's with your mom-" there is silence. "Nothing to worry about."
"Why is it when someone says not to worry you just do?"
The older Slayer sits on the bed beside her daughter, "Eat your breakfast-" the woman smiles.
"Fine-but I'll find out what's going on eventually." She gives her mama a stern look which causes a bigger smile then a soft laugh. "You don't believe me?" asks Aly.
"I do-it's just-so much like your mom." She presses a kiss to her daughter's forehead. The babies begin to fuss and Aly starts to stand. "Eat your pancakes-I've got them." She moves to the crib and rocks it gently. "Hey-" her voice soft- "Your mom's busy-you're stuck with me." She checks diapers a finds both are wet. "Let's get you cleaned up." She picks up one baby then the other and looks at her daughter. "We'll be back." She says in her best Terminator voice and Aly smiles and shakes her head as they leave. She takes a bite of her pancakes.
Later Katie comes in to find her girlfriend asleep. She smiles down at her and then carefully crawls onto the bed beside her. As she does Aly's eyes open. "Shhh-go back to sleep." She kisses her lips softly.
"Can't the boys-"
"The boys are with your parents and they said to sleep-"
"K-" she turns and snuggles against her girl. A few seconds later Katie's eyes open as she feels lip press against her neck. "Ummm nice but not exactly sleeping," she whispers.
"Want me to stop-" Aly asks innocently.
"Never," she says but then whines, "Yes-no-but we're going to-" she turns so that they are eye to eye. "It's too soon and you need to rest."
"But you need-" she raises an eyebrow then slips her hand under Katie's tee shirt to touch bare skin. Her fingers tease and Aly smiles as her lover moans.
Aly's smile fades when she feels Katie's hand stop hers, "Soon I promise but now what they need is more important then what I need. They need you to be rested-to take care of yourself. Okay?"
"No-" she pouts then softens, "Yeah-I get it." She pauses then adds, "I love you."
"I love you-now sleep." She pulls Aly close and spoons around her.
Hours later Willow and Kennedy are each feeding a little boy. As they take their bottles Kara and Kristen come in the room. "Can we help?"
Willow smiles at her youngest girls and nods, "Sure-sit beside me." Kara sits down and Willow puts baby Aidan in her arms. As she helps her get situated Kennedy is doing the same on the other end of the couch with Kristen and Adam.
"They're so little," says Kristen.
"Yeah-how do they make so much noise?" asks Kara.
Kennedy smiles, "You two weren't so quiet either."
"Really?" asks Kara.
"Really-ask Annie and Aly." Willow smiles then adds, "They tried to talk us into trading you."
"Trading us-for what?" asks Kristen.
"You don't want to know," smiles Kennedy.
"Tell us-" begs Kara.
"A puppy," says Willow with a smile.
The twin girls both roll their eyes. Kennedy laughs.
Later, upstairs Katie and Aly start to wake. They stretch and open their eyes slowly. Katie smiles as she sees Aly do the same. "That was nice," says the Slayer. Katie leans in and kisses her lips. "That was nice too." They lie quietly in each others arms. "We should go check on the boys."
"In a minute," she kisses her redhead again but this time it becomes more passionate. Lips begin to open and close against lips. Katie forces herself to pull away as Aly's hands begin to roam. "Minute's up," she states.
Aly leans in and captures her girlfriend's lips again and tongues begin to gently explore. As they break apart this time they are both panting for air. Aly's hands move to the bottom of Katie's tee shirt and their eyes meet. This time Katie doesn't stop her and the shirt is over her head and on the floor in one fluid motion. Katie's eyes close as Aly traces light circles on bare skin. Her breathing quickens and she leans into the touch of her Slayer. Aly begins to kiss down Katie's neck as her hands massage her girl's breasts. The young Slayer smiles as she feels her lover tremble beneath her. "Like that?"
"Yes-" her voice forced as she tries hard to stay in control. "Please-" she moans. Lips replace hands as they travel lower and under Katie's pajama pants. As they fly across the room as well Katie arches into Aly needing more contact. As fingers begin to tease wet curls the phone rings. "Phone-"
"Someone will get it-" says Aly continuing her journey. She eases between slick folds as Katie moans loudly.
Fighting to stay composed Katie tries again, "Could be the hos-" before she can finish her thought Aly is inside her. She cries out and falls instantly. "God-" she trembles as Aly moves two fingers in and out slowly. "Aly-" she bites her bottom lip.
Both freeze as they hear a knock at the door, "Just a minute," manages Aly. She pulls the cover up around them but her fingers stay inside her lover. "Okay-" Katie looks near panic as she struggles to get her breathing under control.
"Are you crazy," she whispers. Aly just smiles and moves her fingers slightly. "Oh-paybacks," she warns before the door opens and Kennedy steps inside. "The hospital-" she smiles. "Kyra can come home."
"Now-" asks Aly with a smile.
"Yeah-they wanted to tell you before you came in for her feeding so you'd have the car seat."
"Great-" forces Katie as she glares at her lover as she moves her fingers ever so slightly. She bites her lip. "Thanks-" she looks toward Kennedy.
"You okay?" asks the Slayer unsure.
"Fine-" Aly moves a little faster. "Oh-Okay," she closes her eyes.
Kennedy walks out the door and into the hallway. Willow walks her way with the boys. "Are they excited?"
"You could say that-" smirks the Slayer. She realizes what was happening in the room she just left.
Back in the room Aly has brought her girl to the edge of release her fingers move faster and she kisses down Katie's body.
In the hallway Willow and Kennedy hear Katie call out Aly's name as she falls hard. "Like I said-excited." Kennedy smiles as Willow blushes at the realization.
