Summary: Set in the future, kinda AU because it changes some things-mostly how Willow and Kennedy got together. But it's still our girls;)
Merry Christmas!
Willow works her way through the house, people are gathered talking, snacking and drinking eggnog, well, at least she thinks its eggnog, cause well, Faith is here and the libations could have been doctored.
She smiles as she sees Buffy approaching, "Hey Will, great party!"
"Thanks Buff, there's more food in the kitchen." She smiles and the blonde Slayer smiles and makes her way that direction.
Xander walks up to his life long friend and asks unsure, "Apocalypse?" He looks toward Buffy's retreating form.
Willow laughs and shakes her head, "No,just food. Even retired Slayers stay hungry from what she says."
Others walk to them, talk and soon the evening winds down. Kennedy catches sight of the redhead for the first time in a while and sneaks around to get her just were she wants her. As she slips her arms around the unsuspecting witch, the woman squeaks, "What-" she stops and relaxes into her arms. "Thought you went patrolling with the newbies?"
"On Christmas Eve-Eve? No way, got big plans." Kennedy teases.
"Big plans huh?" Willow questions.
"Absolutely," she smiles and raises her eyes to the doorway above them.
Willow's eyes follow and her brow arches as she sees the mistletoe hanging there. "So tell me about these plans."
"First we have to kiss, ya know cause, well, the mistletoe... that's just tradition."
"Tradition is it?"
Kennedy nods and keeps explaining.
As Kennedy says the words the redhead's mind goes back almost six years, the first Christmas after the fall of Sunnydale.
The redhead is talking to Buffy as young Slayers decorate for the Academy's Christmas party. Giles thought that the party and presents might help with the homesickness that new Slayer's might experience. They were a long way from home.
Buffy smiles as she sees Kennedy watching them, but trying to act like she is working on the streamers. "She's got it bad Will."
Willow looks puzzled. "I've told her but she just doesn't understand no."
"Maybe because she knows your no isn't really a no?"
The redhead glares at her friend, "It is no, it has to be no. I'm not ready for it to be yes." She battles with tears.
Buffy hugs her, then lets go. "Willow, my bestest friend, maybe its time for it to be yes."
"But Tara-" the witch starts and Buffy interrupts her.
"Tara would want you happy, and I know for a fact Kennedy makes you happy." Buffy states, and when she sees Willow begin to cry, she adds. "It's okay to be happy." She hugs her one more time. "Just think about it Will." The Slayer leaves.
* * *
Willow sits on the couch in the lounge, she has been doing just what Buffy said she should do-think. Thinking about Tara, about Kennedy and about herself. All this thinking was giving her a headache. The thoughts swirling around, her love for Tara, the feelings that Kennedy caused inside her just by smiling, it was all confusing. With a growl she stands and goes toward the kitchen and hopefully some Tylenol.
As she starts in she is met there by a smiling young Slayer. Kennedy's smile seemed to fill the whole room and was infectious without wanting to be, the redhead found herself smiling too. She rolls her eyes at the dark eyed girl. "Okay, why the smile? And don't say something corny like it's cause I'm here."
Kennedy smiles even more and chirps, "Well, that too, but-" her words stop and her eyes look up.
Willow's follow and she groans. "No! Damn, damn, damn... who did this?" Buffy walks by with a smile and the witch sends a warning to her ex-bestest friend. "You are so dead!"
Buffy smiles, "Been there, done that, skipped the shirt and don't plan on doing it again. And did I tell you to go into the kitchen?" And without waiting for the response she is gone.
Kennedy stands even closer now and wets her lips, "One kiss Red, what's it gonna hurt? I mean it is tradition."
"Tradition... Jewish here, or I use to be," she rolls her eyes again deciding not to explain. "The only Christmas tradition around here is watching A Charlie Brown Christmas and Xander doing the snoopy dance."
"Can't wait," she smiles and moves closer. "One kiss. Then, if you don't want," she looks into green eyes. "I'll back off, give you space."
"One kiss?" Willow asks and the young Slayer nods. "Okay."
"Okay?" Kennedy asks her word full of amazement.
"Okay," repeats the redhead. "But strictly for the sake of tradition.
"Right, tradition." She wets her lips again suddenly nervous. One kiss, Kennedy thinks to herself. 'This has gotta be perfect if I want...' her mind stops as she feels lips on her lips. Shocked, she doesn't do anything for an instant, then her lips kiss back.
Finally they pull away slowly, Kennedy's hand raises to brush a strand of hair from Willow face and without a word they lean in again. Lips pressing together, then moving slowly.
Back to the here and now Kennedy's words stop as Willow's lips meet hers and they move together in perfect harmony.
They break apart as they each feel a tug on their side. Two sets of little dark eyes look up at them. "Mama, mommy, we want kisses too," chime the three year old twins in unison. "It's tra-d-ition."
Willow's smile shines and so does her partner's as they each pick up a daughter and pepper kisses all over their faces until they are squirming to get away. Laughter fills the room -the guests long forgotten, tradition winning out in the end.
