Chapter 1
Three years-God had it really been that long since she had seen her Wills? Buffy stood at the end of the couch, phone still in hand, when her mother walked into the room. "Buffy? Was that the phone?"
After a distracted second the blonde Slayer looks up at her mother. "What? I'm sorry, I didn't..." she stops.
"Was that the phone?" Repeats the woman.
"Yeah," says the still perplexed young woman.
Joyce half grins and then rolls her eyes at her daughter. Her smile fades as she suddenly worries that something is wrong. "Buffy is something wrong?"
"Ah... It was - it was Willow." Her eyes meeting her mother's. "It was Willow, she wanted to know if it was okay if she came home."
Joyce is shocked by the words. "Willow?" Buffy nods. "What did you tell her?"
"I - I told her yes."
"Buffy, don't you think you should have asked Tara that question?"
Buffy shakes her head slowly. "No."
"Buffy, after what happened, what she did to that young woman..." Joyce starts.
"Mom," the tone of just that one word stops the older woman's protest. Memories come flooding back to the Slayer and she bristles. As she turns away she relives the past one painstaking scene at a time. Her friend, her best friend, so lost, the Magicks taking over her.
She remembers Tara's tears as she tells them about Willow taking her memories. The Slayer didn't believe the blonde witch at first, she hadn't wanted to, though later she realized her not trusting the woman had only enabled Willow to become worse.
In the final showdown the redhead's black eyes, the outward sign of her sickness, burned the Slayer as she tried to protect the others from the woman, her friend.
That day three years ago still haunted the Slayer, she watched in horror as Willow forced Tara to grovel at her feet and beg for forgiveness. She finally stepped forward only to be thrown back by Willow's powerful Magicks.
After struggling back to her feet she was able to get between the redhead and the woman she was torturing. Summoning all of her Slayer strength she launched herself at Willow, knocking her to the ground. She held her there as Tara's words bound her Magicks.
Two days later plays back in vivid color in her mind. She and Willow are standing in the entrance way of the Summers' house. "You need help Willow."
"I'm fine, I just need to talk to her."
"No, she doesn't want to see you."
"You're just trying to keep us apart!" The redhead screams. "You take everything away from me!"
"She's not a thing Willow," Buffy says softly. "She doesn't belong to you."
"You can't have her!" Willow starts for the stairs. Buffy stops her, taking her by the arm. The redhead shoves her, pulling her arm away from the blonde. "She's mine!"
Buffy grabs her around the waist and picks her up. She carries her to the porch and puts her down. "You need help Willow! Listen to Giles, go to the coven."
"I don't need his help or yours! When I get my magics back..." Her words seethe with hate and anger.
Buffy fights tears as she looks at the broken woman. Guilt fills her as she remember the Willow she met in high school, the Willow she let get involved in the craziness of fighting evil, the Willow that stood before her now. "You're not welcome here. Until you get help, don't come back." The tears slip down the Slayer's face.
"I hate you!" She screams out as she runs from the porch.
The memories fade and Buffy stands in her living room, tears falling. Her mother wraps her in her arms. "Shhh... You did what you had to do."
"I know, and I have to do this too. She says she better. I told her she could come back when she was."
Joyce nods. "I'll call Tara."
"No, I need to be the one, it should be me." She wipes the tears away and steps from her mother's arms. "But could you tell Dawn?"
Again Joyce nods, "Is she going to stay here?"
"No, her parents house." Buffy sighs. "I didn't think... It's better that way." The Slayer walks toward the door. "I'm not sure how long I'll be gone."
Joyce watches her daughter go out the door. She turns as she hears Dawn, "I thought Buffy was eating dinner with us."
"She had to take care of something first. Come sit, we need to talk."
She and Dawn sit on the couch, "Is it another apocalypse?"
Joyce shakes her head, "Though, that might be better for everyone."
Dawn frowns unsure. "Did my teacher call again? 'Cause, I so turned in that paper, it was just a little late."
"What paper?"
"Oops." Dawn looks away.

Buffy knocks on the door of a small apartment. She waits nervously for Tara to answer, but she's surprised when Faith does instead. "Hey B, didn't know you were coming by." They walk inside and close the door.
"I needed to talk to Tara." Buffy says, trying not to make eye contact with the other Slayer.
The once Dark Slayer's spidery senses go off, "Something wrong?"
"Willow called," the blonde Slayer says simply and with those words, the Rogue bristles.
Tara walks up and slips her arms around her lover's waist. "How is she?" She asks nervously.
"She says she's better."
Tara nods, "That- that's good."
Faith scowls, "She better stay the fuck away from T."
"She wants to come home, so..." Buffy is interrupted.
"You're shittin' me, back here? After what she did? She's grown a pair."
Buffy looks away, "I promised, if she got help..."
"That she could come home, I remember." Tara finishes for her.
Faith speaks, "And you just believe her?"
"It's been three years and not a word, she calls now... Makes me think something's changed. So yeah, I do." Buffy nods.
Faith moves from Tara's arms and walks across the room. Tara looks at her girl then at the other Slayer, "It's okay, she should be with people who care about her."
Buffy nods, "She'll be here the day after tomorrow."
Tara nods and watches as Buffy turns to go. "I won't let her hurt you again, I promise."
Tara smiles sadly, "I know." Buffy leaves and Tara watches the door close before walking across the room to her girl. "Hey," she stands behind her. When Faith doesn't turn to face her, she puts her hands on her waist and turns her. She puts her hand on her Slayer's chin and lifts it so that their eyes meet. "This doesn't change anything between us. Got that, Slayer?"
"You loved her." Faith says softly.
"Now I love you." She kisses her lips chastely. "Only you."
"She hurts you again and I'll..." Faith looks away. She hates when the anger gets so strong inside her. "I won't let her."
"Listen to me, " Faith looks into her eyes again. "I'll be fine as long we are. You have to trust me."
"I do T," she leans in and kisses her softly.
"No getting all jealous when we talk, 'cause we'll need to."
Faith pouts a little, "I could come with you."
"I don't think so. The two of you didn't get along all that much, from what I remember."
Faith smirks, "'Cause she was hot for me and just didn't wanna admit it." Tara rolls her eyes. "It's true." She laughs a little, "Or, it could've been the whole I tried to kill her thing."
"I forgot about that," Tara becomes sullen, but then smiles a little at her girlfriend of nearly a year. "See? Perfect example of how people can change."
"Yeah, could be she has." But the little voice inside the Slayer adds, 'Like hell she has.'

A week later, Buffy stands on the porch of the Rosenberg house. She's not sure she should be there, but the waiting has finally gotten to her. After four unreturned phone calls, she decided on a more direct approach. Finally willing her body to follow orders, she raises her hand and knocks on the door.
A few nervous minutes later, the door opens just a little, the chain latch not allowing it to open fully. She smiles at the soft green eye peeking out. "Will..." she breathes out softly.
"Buffy."
"I thought... I tried to call."
"I - I know I've just been... it's been a little overwhelming. I was gonna call..."
"Right... So I'll just..."
"No, don't go. I - I mean unless..." she stops her words and closes the door. There's a rattling of a chain, then the door opens again, all the way this time.
Buffy can't take her eyes off the little redheaded girl in Willow's arms. The toddler giggles, then ducks her head into her mother's chest. Finally, the Slayer's eyes meet the witches. "Will I..." she stops.
Willow smiles a little as she runs her hand through the little one's hair. "This is Eve," she says softly.
Buffy is speechless, but she can't stop the smile.
Willow continues as she steps back and Buffy walks in, closing the door. "My daughter Eve."
Chapter 2
The redhead and the blonde sit facing each other on the couch. The toddler plays on the floor near them with an assortment of toys.
Buffy looks at the little girl, then the little girl's mother. "That's a lot of toys Will." A question in her tone.
"She's ah- she gets bored easily," explains Willow.
"Like her mama?" Buffy grins.
The witch nods, her eyes falling on the child and her fingers reaching to play in soft red hair. "Mostly-" she looks up at the blonde Slayer, "she's like me but she isn't... she has no... she's not-" her final words only heard by Slayer hearing. "She's not a witch."
"She's so young, how can you-" she stops as her friend speaks.
"I took her to a coven. Giles called them for me."
"So you got help?" Buffy asks.
To her surprise Willow shakes her head, "I- we talked- they tested Eve and I made plans to come back. I wanted to see you first." Her eyes meet Buffy's.
"When do you have to leave?" Sadness creeps in.
"No definite date- just when I'm ready." Willow answers. She tries to smile.
Buffy puts a hand on her knee and smiles at her friend. "I'm here Will-anything you need."
"Thanks." She looks away again.
"Mama-" Eve calls.
"What baby girl?" She looks at her child, love in her eyes.
"Ice cream," she smiles.
Buffy smiles at her and so does the redhead. "How about hot dogs and mac & cheese instead?"
The child crawls onto her mama's lap and hugs her around the neck. "Ice cream." She repeats as she kisses her lips.
Buffy can't contain a laugh. "How can you tell her no when she's so cute?"
Willow rolls her eyes, "Cause I'm the mama- taking care of her, that's my job."
Buffy nods, "Tough job."
"Sometimes." Willow agrees. She kisses the little girl. "Hot dogs and mac & cheese- then, after a nap we'll have ice cream."
Eve seems to be contemplating the words then she nods and grins. "Hot dogs-" she says as she slides from her mama's lap back to play with her toys.
Willow looks at the blonde, "So wanna help me cook?"
"Could be talked into it."
"You can have ice cream later too." Willow smiles.
"You got a deal." They start toward the kitchen.
* * *
After lunch, the little girl sleeps on Willow's lap. Buffy can't stop her fingers from stroking her hair. "How old is she Will?"
"She's two a little over two- her birthday was last month." There is silence that seems to last a little too long. "Something on your mind Buff?" A little smile finds her lips as she knows what her friend wants to ask, but she knows Buffy can't figure out how to voice the question.
"How did-" she stops. "I mean I know how if there wasn't magic," she looks at the witch. "If there wasn't magic then-"
Willow cuts her off, "No magic."
"So the normal way. K. Well except- the whole you liking girls part,so-" she stops again.
The redhead takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. She knew when she decided to come home she'd have a lot to explain. "Still like girls. Just when I left here, well, not in the best frame of mind. I was in bar, drank way more than I can ever remember drinking before and I picked up-"
Buffy interrupts shocked, "You picked up a guy?"
Willow nods, looking down embarrassed by her actions and her admittance. "Yeah, don't even remember his name. Which I guess gets really interesting when she's older. Not sure how I'm gonna tell her that part, but I'll find a way." She brushes her lips against Eve's forehead.
"When you found out-" Buffy stops, afraid of the answer.
"Why didn't I come back here?" Buffy nods. "I was still in a bad place, angry, I wasn't ready. So-"
"You dealt with everything, all by yourself?" Buffy supplies and her friend nods.
Before the conversation can continue the child stirs in her lap. "Let me put her to bed and then you can tell me about everything I missed."
Buffy stands, "I can- I mean, if it's okay, I can tuck her in." Willow smiles and nods. The blonde Slayer picks up the little girl gently and tucks her against her chest. "Be right back." She walks from the room, she can tell the redhead's eyes are following her. Buffy smiles at the thought.

Tara comes home from work to find Faith sitting on the couch smiling up at her. Tara smiles back as she walks toward her. The dark Slayer stands and wraps her girl in a hug. "Not that I'm not happy, but why are you here so early? I thought this was your late night?"
Faith brushes a kiss to her lips then smiles seductively as she playfully wiggles her eyebrows at her blonde. "Thought we could take off for a couple of days."
Tara kisses her softly, "Just the two of us?"
"That was the plan," they share another kiss.
Tara runs the back of her hand along Faith's cheek, "You know, she'll still be here when we get back. Eventually, I'll have to talk to her."
Faith rolls her eyes knowing Tara is right, "So talk to her on Monday after-" she puts her tightly against her. "I spend the weekend having my wicked way with you." She winks, then lets her lips kiss along the blonde's neck.
"Mmm," she moans at the feel of lips against her skin, "You don't play fair." She gasps out as her girl's hand snakes between them to massage her right breast. Tara's eyes fall closed as Faith's actions continue.
Faith's lips nip up to Tara's ear and then to the sensitive spot behind it. The witch groans and the Slayer smiles against her wet skin-breathing out on it making her tremble. "Please Blondie?"
Tara pulls her Faith's lips back to hers and after a tender kiss she pulls back to look into her Slayer's worried eyes. "Okay, we'll leave in the morning."
Faith frowns. "The morning? Why not tonight?"
Tara bites her bottom lip and then grins up at her, "I got plans of my own," she winks, plants a searing kiss on her girl's lips and says, "for tonight." She disappears from the room. Faith smiles and follows but stops confused when she sees her girl go toward the kitchen.

Later Buffy and Willow are discussing the events of the last three years. The redhead listens as the blonde Slayer recounts the events. "After you left well things got pretty wild. Potential Slayers were being killed all over the world."
"Potential Slayers?" Willow is confused.
Buffy nods, "Young girls- training, waiting to be called."
"I didn't know there was-" Willow starts.
"Neither did I until the weird dreams started. A couple of weeks later Giles showed up on my doorstep with four in tow. Bringers killed their Watchers and the Council thought they'd be safe here."
"Bringers... wait, I remember them from before, with Angel." The redhead states and Buffy nods. "Pointy knives and no eyes."
"That's them." Buffy supplies. "They showed soon after." She stops then starts again. "We found out they were agents of the First."
"First?"
"First Evil, the biggest Big Bad."
"And you had to face him?" Buffy nods. "How- I mean evil is always. How can you fight it? How can you win? It's everywhere."
"It wasn't easy and it wasn't without a price. It changed everything."
"How?"
Buffy smiles as she remembers what the blonde witch was able to do. "Tara was able to use the Scythe, this really cool Slayer tool, to turn all of the Potentials into Slayers."
"All... so there's-" Willow stops.
"Thousands." Buffy finishes. "Thousands of us now." She smiles.
"Wow. Wow-" she repeats "And Tara did-" Buffy nods. "Wow. I always knew she had more power than-" she stops.
"She was great-and Spike he was able to wear the amulet Angel brought us and when the Hellmouth was filled with light the uber vamps were destroyed."
"More wow. You were in the Hellmouth?"
"We sealed it, Sunnydale is now Hellmouth free."
Willow frowns, as she seems to think though the words. "Sealed the Hellmouth?" Buffy nods. "Sealed it?"
"Again yes. Why are you so, I don't know, surprised?"
"If you-then it should be-Sunnydale should be-"
Buffy finishes for her, "A big hole in the ground?"
"Exactly-I mean it would have-"
"That's what Giles said too-but it didn't happen. Nobody's sure why, but I'm pretty glad that here's still home."
Willow can't stop the smile. "No Hellmouth?" Buffy shakes her head. "So it's-no more demons?"
"Still a few sometimes but not like before." Willow looks toward her daughter's room. Buffy smiles. "It's safe here for her now, way safer then before."
"Where are all the Slayers?" Willow asks.
Buffy speaks almost sadly, "Some were lost, more than I had hoped."
"Fighting always," she takes Buffy's hand. "It's not your fault."
"That's what Giles says too."
"He's right." Willow states firmly.
Buffy allows a little smile to find its way to her lips. "Some went home, till they're needed, but most went to Cleveland."
"Cleveland?" She looks unsure then grins teasingly, "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?"
Buffy laughs, "Another Hellmouth."
"Figures." The redhead rolls her eyes.
"There's a Slayers Academy there and the new Council."
"New Council?" Willow questions.
"Yep. Oh oops, I forgot to tell you that the old one got blown up."
"Well there has been lots to catch up on. Wow... So who runs the academy- and the Council?"
"Giles." Buffy smiles and Willow nods.
"And where's Xander?"
"Cleveland. He's helping and he is in charge of all the building and is helping train the new Watchers."
"Good for him." She hesitates. "And Tara?"
Buffy looks into sad green eyes, "Tara's here."
The talking is interrupted by a cry from the other room. Both move at once toward the room and the child inside.
Eve is sitting up in her bed rubbing her eyes and sniffling a little. Willow moves to the child, sits down and cuddles her close. "You okay baby girl?"
Eve wraps her arms around her mama, "Frogs in my dreams all hoppy."
Willow hugs her tight. "They're gone now, Mama's got you." Eve holds tighter as the redhead tries to soothe her. "Close your eyes and rest Eve." She presses a kiss to the child's temple and her eyes close.
Buffy watches in silence from the door. Her mind busy with questions and thoughts. A part of her thrilled that Willow seems better, happy with her child, but she knows soon she must tell her the rest and see the redhead's heart break.
* * *
A few minutes later the blonde and the redhead sit on the couch talking again. "Faith helped?"
"Yeah, she's been a big help. We went to Cleveland in the beginning and worked with the Slayers."
"But you came back?"
"Well Mom and Dawn are here and, well, seemed like the thing to do." Buffy smiles.
"And Faith?"
"She's here and so is Kennedy."
"Kennedy?"
"A new Slayer, one of the Potentials Giles brought that first night- you'll meet her. It's kinda hard not too, she's always hanging out at the house. Mom wants you come to dinner on Sunday."
"I don't- I- maybe. It's still kinda weird being here."
"I understand."
"Buffy... Tara... does she know I'm-" Buffy nods. "And she's okay with?" Buffy again nods. A smile finds the witch's lips.
Buffy decides to not let her get her hopes up not even the tiniest bit. "She's found someone Will."
The news shocks the redhead but she regroups and lies as best she can. "Good. That's-that's good." Buffy reaches to touch the woman's hand but she pulls away. "She's-she's happy?" Tears slip down her cheeks as she watches Buffy nod.
Buffy reaches forward and though Willow tries to protest, her friend pulls her into a hug. The redhead holds her tight as sobs escape from her throat. "It'll be okay... shh... I'm here... I'll make it okay." She continues to whisper in her ear trying to calm her.
* * *
Finally after lots of tears and talk the redhead is mostly composed. Buffy still looks worried. "I'm okay Buff. I mean it hurts cause a part of me will always love her, but I knew- I knew we were- that she could never trust me enough to be in love with me again."
Buffy wipes Willow's cheek. "You'll find someone to love Willow."
Eve comes in carrying a stuffed dog and a little blanket. "Ice cream now Mama?" She asks as she tries to get on her lap with all her prizes.
Willow smiles as she lifts the child, her eyes move to Buffy. "I've got someone."
"I guess you do at that." She smiles too. "How about the three of us go to the park and get ice cream and ride the Merry-go-Round?"
"I've been avoiding the whole outside thing." Willow states.
"Figured, so no more avoiding. Come on, let me show you the new old Sunnydale, what do you say?"
Willow nods, "Let me get her bag together." Buffy smiles.
* * *
Eve rides the Merry-go-Round pony with Buffy on one side of her and Willow on the other. The redhead's hand rests protectively on her child and the Slayer smiles as she watches them together.
A few minutes later the ride begins to slow and the little girl states, "Again Mama Again."
Willow looks across a Buffy who smiles, "She seems to like this thing as much as Dawn use to," says the blonde with a shrug.
"Last time Evey." Willow smiles at her daughter.
"Last time." She pauses the asks, "But just for today right?"
Willow smiles and leans over to kiss her child, "Last time for today."
Eve smiles and the ride starts again. Buffy smiles as she stands up on the stirrups of the wooden horse. Eve tries to do the same. "No Eve," Willow reprimands. "Sit down."
The child looks to Buffy and the redhead's eyes follow. The mother gives the older woman the evil eye and she sits instantly. "Oopsy." Buffy makes an 'I'm Sorry' face.
Willow smiles at her friend. "She likes to do what grown ups do, you have to be really careful."
"You know this how?"
Willow blushes, "Well, after Mama, her first word was-" she stops and leans toward Buffy. She whispers and the Slayer hearing picks up the words Eve's little ears can't. "Damn straight."
Buffy giggles as Willow blushes again.
* * *
In the park later, Buffy smiles and nods to something Willow says. The redhead stops to help Eve with her dripping ice cream. She wipes the child's face and they all begin to walk again.
A few minutes later the walking comes to a sudden stop as Buffy sees Faith and Tara in front of them, the dark Slayer has a picnic basket in hand. Buffy tries to steer Willow away before she sees. "Why don't we go back to the ice cream cart and get a cup instead of the cone."
Her try is too late as Willow sees Tara with the Slayer. "Tara-" Willow squeaks out softly but her wide eyes settle on the once Rogue Slayer. "Tara?" Willow tries again a little louder.
The blonde witch tries to understand the scene in front of her as she watches Willow pick up the little girl and the child hide her face to the woman's body. "Will?" Tara's one word voicing her confusion.
They stand not five feet apart, the two Slayers, the two witches and the child. Faith scowls. Tara looks from Willow to the child and back, the redheads are simply quiet. Buffy tries to defuse things. "Hi!" She chirps with false joyfulness. "Fancy meeting the two of you here."
Chapter 3
Tara tightens her hold on Faith's hand, though a part of her is screaming to let go. She doesn't want to hurt Willow and she knows this simple act will do just that. Her eyes stay locked on the two redheads until she hears a slight growl from her lover. She looks to her Slayer. "It's okay," she whispers softly. "I'm okay."
The brunette relaxes a little as she looks into Tara's eyes for the truth. She touches her cheek, "Ya sure?"
Tara nods and leans into the touch. "I'm sure," she whispers.
The gentle exchange doesn't go unnoticed by Willow. She looks at Buffy near panic on her face. Buffy intercedes again. "Well, we have ice cream issues," drawing all eyes to the messy child. "So we should go."
"Go... right... go... going." Willow stammers.
"We're going too." Faith adds.
But to the surprise of all are the words of the blonde witch, "No. Not... don't yet. I-I want... I need... Can we talk Will?" Sad blue eyes meet even sadder green.
Willow fights to stay calm and in control. "Now's not-" she looks to the child in her arms. "I should take her-" she stops as tears slip down her cheeks but she wipes them away quickly.
"What's wrong Mama?" Eve asks.
"Nothing baby, nothing." She kisses her forehead. "Why don't you-" she hands her toward Buffy. The blonde takes her but she reaches back for her mama.
Buffy resorts to bribery, "One more ride on the Merry-go-Round?"
She shakes her head, "Mama said no more today."
Willow and Buffy both smile, "One more time Eve," Willow says softly.
Buffy looks at Faith, "Why don't you come with us?"
The dark Slayer hesitates, her eyes go to Tara who nods. She then looks at the redhead. "I won't be far."
Willow understands them for what they are, a threat. Hurt her and face the wrath of the woman. Tara shoots Faith a look and she knows she's in trouble later, however at the moment she doesn't much care. She follows Buffy and the child.
Willow stands nervously in front of her old love. Tara is no calmer but she steps closer. Both are at a lost for words, but finally the redhead speaks. "You-you're with Faith?"
The blonde nods, "And you? You have a daughter?" The redhead nods as well. They turn and walk quietly towards the bench. Without words they sit side by side.
* * *
Buffy and Faith watch the witches from the ride as they stand in line. "B, this ain't a good idea."
"Isn't," mumbles the child. Buffy can't help but smile while Faith frowns at the girl. Eve turns to hid her face against Buffy's shoulder.
"Don't do that, you're scaring her."
"Am not." Faith protests. "Besides, she started it."
Buffy shakes her head and rolls her eyes, "Faith, she's two."
"Fine," pouts the other Slayer. "I won't say nothin."
They get on the ride and Eve whispers again. "Anything." A little giggle escapes the girl's lips.
"She's makin' fun of me." Faith glares at her, but the child can't see her expression.
* * *
Willow glances at the ride and sees Buffy holding Eve as they go around and around. She looks down at her hands as they pick at the cuffs of her jacket. "Tara, I-I don't know what to say. I didn't think that I'd... it's too soon and the words won't-" her tears try to fall but she forces them back.
"Then let me okay?" Her tone is soft and gentle, the truth of her words so plain. "I'm not mad at you Will... and I-I'm glad you're back."
Willow looks up, her cheeks wet, "You are?" Tara nods, fighting her own teary battle. "Really?" The blonde nods again. "Cause after what I did t-to y-you I'd understand if you-you didn't want to see me, not ever."
"Ah-Willow please don't cry. It took a while but I know it wasn't you, it was the Magicks."
"You really don't hate me?"
"I really don't," she wipes away the tears from the redhead's face. "I could never hate you."
Willow looks up into her eyes, "But you don't love me. You love h-her?"
"I love her." Tara confirms.
Willow nods. "I should... the ride's gonna stop and Eve-" her tears start again as she stands.
Tara stands too and starts to hug the redhead but stops herself realizing it isn't her job anymore. She wraps her arms around herself as she watches Willow do the same.
They look up to see the others coming back toward them. The little girl runs in front of the Slayers. She holds her arms out for her mama to pick her up as she reaches her. Her words fly out with great speed for a young child. "She said bad word Mama." Her little finger pointed accusingly at Faith.
Willow eyes her daughter. "Don't tattle." She manages around a little smile. "We've talked about it before, remember?"
The little girl nods, "Sorry Mama."
Willow kisses her forehead. "I know baby girl."
Tara's blue eyes pin Faith's brown, "What?" Faith asks a little ticked. The blonde witch looks from her Slayer to the child and back. "Oh fine. Sorry kid." She grumbles. The Rogue gets a hug from her witch.
Willow tenses a bit at the affection shown, then she stammers, "I... we should... Eve's... it's been a hard couple of weeks. I should get her home."
"Home, check." Buffy says with a smile. Her arm slips around Willow without a thought.
Faith notices and so does Tara, both are a little surprised. Tara doesn't know why she is, she's seen the blonde do the same thing hundreds of times. She isn't sure why this time felt different to her, but it did.
"Patrolling later B?" Faith asks as they start their separate ways.
"Nah, taking a night off. I've got plans." She says with a smile.
"I'll do a quick sweep then, take the kid with me. She's got my shift this weekend." Buffy raises an eyebrow. "Tara and I are goin' out of town for a few days."
"Sounds fun." She looks nervously at Willow as the Rogue talks. The older Slayer sees Tara take the brunette's hand and try to stop the conversation.
"Maybe we can talk again, Will. When I get back?"
Willow nods though Buffy can tell her heart isn't in it.
"Later then," Faith states as they walk away.
Willow takes a deep breath and looks up into the sky as she lets it out. Buffy takes Eve from her and wraps her a little tighter. "Let's get you two home. It's been a long day." The redhead nods and they start toward the Rosenberg house.

Just as the sun starts to fade Buffy, Willow and Eve walk into the house. The child yawns the adults smile. Willow kisses the little girl's brow. Buffy speaks softly, "Someone's s-l-e-e-p-y." Buffy spells out.
"Not sleepy," states Eve though another yawn escapes.
Buffy's eyes widen, "And smart. But I shoulda figured that. She is yours." She smiles at her friend.
Willow blushes. "Ah, why don't we take a warm bubble bath and get in our jammies?" She looks at the little girl. "Then we'll be all ready for bed when we get sleepy."
The little girl nods, "Buffy too?"
The blonde smiles but Willow shakes her head. "Buffy has plans for tonight." She remembers what the Slayer told Faith.
"No. I mean yeah, but with you if it's okay?" Buffy looks into surprised green eyes. "I thought maybe we could have a movie night, like old times." She frowns, "Except without Xander," then grins."That'll be more food for me."
Willow smiles, "Movie night sounds fun."
"So, I'll just run home and get my sushi pajamas. Then I'll pick up some movies and snacks. Pizza okay?"
Willow nods and sets Eve down. The little girl wraps her arms around Buffy's legs. The blonde smiles down at her and ruffles her hair. "Be back in a flash."
The child doesn't let go. "Evey you've got to let Buffy go." The child shakes her head. "Eve Rosenberg." Her tone a little sharper. The little redhead doesn't let go, a carbon copy of Willow's resolve face crosses the two year old's features.
Buffy picks her up and looks into her little green eyes. "What's up Miss Eve?"
"Go with you."
Buffy smiles and looks at Willow's worried face. She understands the fear there. It's been a stress-filled day. Introducing Eve to Buffy's mom is so not on her list of things to do this very moment. "Make you a deal. You stay with Mama and get your bath, and when I come back, I'll read you a story."
The child beams and so does Buffy, proud that her idea worked. She knew the little girl would love books, just like her Mama. She sets her down after a tight hug, which Eve returns. "Be back?"
"Definitely." She smiles at Willow as they watch the little one go toward the steps.
"She likes you," Willow smiles.
"Works out good then, cause I like her too." Buffy smiles as she goes to the door and out. Willow locks it behind her and follows Eve to the stairs. She picks up the girl and playfully tickles her as she climbs the stairs to the bathroom. Laughter fills the house for the first time in a long time.

Across town the blonde witch and her Slayer sit quietly on the couch together. The television plays as Tara's head rests on Faith's shoulder. After a few more silent moments, the brunette asks. "Ya okay?"
Tara nods against her Slayer's chest as her head moves there. She snakes her arms around her waist. "Been really quiet since we got back."
The blonde lets one hand move to Faith's stomach, "It's... it was harder than I thought."
Faith runs her hand soothingly through her girl's blonde locks. "Talkin' help?"
"Not sure. I mean, I'm not sure I can." There is a slight tremble to her words.
Faith presses her lips to the witch's head and wraps her tightly in her arms. "Ya don't have to, it's cool."
The older woman continues, "I mean it's a lot, seeing her, but then-"She stops, trying hard to keep the tears in check. Her mind is filled with Eve, the little girl that she and Willow had talked about, planned for, before all hell had broken loose. Before they lost each other. Everything.
Faith understands the words not spoken. "The kid," she says as she bites her bottom lip and feels Tara nod against her again. "Kinda outta nowhere." Another nod from her girl. "Want me to call K and tell her she's solo tonight?"
Tara raises up slowly, her eyes meeting Faith's and she shakes her head. She wants her to stay, wants her to hold her, but she knows her girl needs to patrol, to slay; it's the only way she can express the emotions she's feeling as well. "No. You go. I'll be okay."
Faith presses a kiss to Tara's lips, The blonde leans into it, her lips moving against her love's. The younger woman tries to pull back, she only meant to comfort her girl. Tara however seems to have other plans. "Tara," she breaths out.
"I need-" she stops and the kissing starts again. Things are rushed, almost frantic, no matter how much Faith tries to slow them down. Finally, she gives in to the blonde, lets her take the lead. The heat rises quickly and soon clothes are scattered on the floor all around the couch.
Tara rolls her Slayer under her. The blonde's hands and lips touching, tasting as she moves with abandon down the body of her lover.
Faith tangles her hands in her girl's hair again trying to slow her down. Tara stops for an instant, their eyes meet. Seeing the need in the dark blue pools the Slayer surrenders completely.
Later, the waves take the Slayer again as she calls Tara's name over and over. As she tries to catch her breath her blonde's tongue starts again. She tangles her hands in her lover's hair and with a little more persistence pulls her up so that they are face to face. Tara looks confused by Faith's actions. "You don't want-" she stops, her words breathy.
The Slayer smirks, "Your kiddin' right? I always want." She kisses Tara softly. "But there's nothing' to prove here." She states then decides maybe she isn't right. "Unless there is... I mean-"
"No," Tara tries to lean in to kiss her.
Faith stops her by turning them. Tara ends up on her side between her girl and the back of the couch. Their eyes meet and the Slayer starts again. "Ya sure? Do you love her?" Tara doesn't say anything, she feels the tears roll down her cheeks. "Answers that."
"Please just-" the witch can't find the words fast enough to explain the thousands of feelings she is experiencing. Some are scary and some are confusing. She doesn't know how to explain any of them, not to the woman in front of her. Not even to herself.
Faith pulls away, "Figured as much. I need some air." She stands up and begins to pull on her clothes.
"Wait!" Tara says as she gets up too. She pulls her shirt and her panties on. "Please. Understand that it's all-"
"All a big mistake." She turns and goes to the door. Tara follows and puts a hand on her Slayer's shoulder. "Don't." Fire fills the Rogue's eyes as she turns to meet soft, sad, blue. "I can't do this."
Tara watches helplessly as the woman storms out the door. She runs a hand through her hair and lets the tears fall unashamedly.

At the Rosenberg house the Witch, the Slayer and the little redhead are all in the pjs watching an animated movie. Willow sits on the couch as does Buffy. Eve's head is on her mama's lap while her feet rest on Buffy's. The blonde looks up with a grin then a raised eyebrow as she tilts her head in a silent request toward the little girl's feet.
The Willow smiles her permission and with an evil giggle Buffy begins to tickle the child's feet.
Surprised Eve tries to pull away as she giggles as well. "Mama!" She calls out and the older redhead grins. With a wink to her child, they both begin to revenge the act of the Slayer. Both mother and daughter grab for and begin tickling the blonde. Buffy tries to stop them, in doing so they all land on the floor with a big thud.
Buffy's eyes grow wide as she tries to make sure Eve isn't hurt. "Oh god Will, are you two okay?"
Willow nods and giggles as she looks over the tangled mess to see her child still laughing. "We're fine Buff. Attack!" She yells and that is exactly what Eve does, only this time, she tickles her mama.
Buffy smiles as she sees the surprised look on her friend's face, then watches the interaction between the two redheads. Her thoughts turn to Willow and the time they spent apart. She knows it was necessary but she is so glad it is over.
Willow finally succeeds in wrapping her child in her arms and stopping her questing fingers. "Buffy, is something wrong?"
"No, nothing wrong. In fact, it's pretty right." Her eyes meet soft green. "I'm glad you're home.
Willow nods, "Yeah, me too." She watches unsure as she sees her friend lean toward her.
Eve wrestles free and pops up between them. "Get her Mama."
Buffy's forward motion stops and she manages a grin at the redhead's words. "I think it's you who needs gotten." She begins to tickle the child and Buffy joins in. Willow's laughter warms the Slayer's heart as she thinks to herself, [God, how I've missed that sound.]

Faith and Kennedy are patrolling. The younger Slayer watches the older as she dusts vampire after vampire with an anger she hasn't seen before. She shakes her head and starts after the one closet to her, but before she can stake it, Faith launches herself into the air and, with a spinning kick, knocks it to the ground. Kennedy frowns as she looks on. Finally after the other Slayer beats it to a bloody pulp then dusts it she speaks. "Okay Faith, going out on a limb here and saying something is obviously not right, so spill." Her eyes meet raging brown.
Faith scoffs, "No, things are great. Five by five even." She walks away.
Kennedy rolls her own chocolate eyes, "Right, sure as hell not buying that."
Faith stops and turns on a dime, facing the younger Slayer, "I said I'm fine." Her words are sharp and hard. Kennedy steps closer. "I mean there's nothin' wrong with your girl still bein' in love with her ex. She just tried to kill her."
Kennedy starts to speak but stops as she realizes she doesn't know what is going on. The confusion covers her face and Faith begins again. "I mean hell I killed people and she loved me! Or, she said she did, so-" she stops then growls.
Kennedy finds words, "Okay, you wanna back up and start with something that makes sense, cause I know Tara loves you."
Faith says simply, "Willow's back."
Kennedy raises an eyebrow, "Willow?"
"Redhead, about this tall." She raises a hand to just about her height, then drops it as she continues. "Dark Witchy woman. Come on, I know you've heard the stories about her trying to end the world." Kennedy looks surprised, then amazed. Faith walks away.
Kennedy mumbles under her breath. "Shit." She finally realizes Faith is gone. "Shit! Faith, wait!" She starts after her friend.
Chapter 4
Kennedy finds the older Slayer an hour later sitting atop the headstone of a new grave. The once Rogue simply twirls a stake, waiting for the creature to rise. Kennedy walks closer, then looks up at her friend. "You're wrong you know."
"Not likely." Faith says without looking at her, the stake moving faster between her fingers.
"She loves you."
Faith scoffs at the other Slayer's words. "No way she picks me over her."
She hops up on the stone beside her and forces eye contact, "Probably not, since you're just giving up, makes her choice pretty simple." Faith glares at her. The younger Slayer hops back down, back turned. "Didn't know you were a quitter." Faith growls at her words. Kennedy smiles as she walks away.
Faith growls again. She swings herself down from the headstone and turns looking at the grave. "Get your fuckin' ass outta there. I got somethin' I gotta do." She buries her hands in the dirt, digging for the vampire.

At the Rosenberg house Buffy watches the redheads sleep, Eve's head pillowed on her mama's lap, while Willow's rests on Buffy's. Without thought the blonde's fingers trace through soft auburn locks before tracing down her jaw. "I missed you Wills." She lets her arm drape around the woman as she leans back against the couch, and lets her eyes close.
* * *
Tara is on her couch, the lights off her eyes wet with tears. She has spent the hours without her Slayer trying desperately to sort out the thoughts and feelings that are running rampant. Flashes of Willow, their first meeting at the Wicca group, their first date after the redhead came to terms with her sexuality, all the firsts. Their first kiss, their first make out session, the first time they made love, their first fight and the making up after. She smiles at the images.
However, those pictures are replaced by the bad times. The hurtful comments, the control issues, the magic used to take her free will. Those flashes cause her to tremble as Willow's angry words try to fill her mind. She takes a deep breath as she tries to push them away before- before- but she's too late. Willow's words echo, You are nothing, nothing without me. You're just a sniveling worthless bitch. I made you, I took pity on you and allowed you to be near me and this, this is how you repay me?
Tara's tears fall as she tries without success to forget the words. She knows the magic was in control then, the magic and not her Willow, but, it was her voice she heard, her eyes she saw, cold and empty. An-and worse, her redhead's hand that slapped her so hard as she screamed them.
Standing, she walks to the window and looks out. She fights for control, centering herself, using her meditation and the techniques Faith taught her. The thought of her Slayer makes her smile through the tears. She takes a deep breath and runs her fingers through her hair. Faith had done so much for her, brought her from a place she hadn't been since before Willow.
She made her believe in herself again, trust, love. She loved Faith, so why had she not been able to say the words before? She whispers softly, "I love you." A smile finds her lips. She walks toward the bedroom and gets the suitcase from the closet. She puts it on the bed and opens it, that's when the Slayer walks in.
Faith's eyes go wide and she pales, her body feeling as though the life has been sucked out of it, "Tara?" She finally manages.
Tara smiles up at her, "Hey, what kind of clothes do we need for this trip you have planned.?"
"Clothes? Trip?" Then she remembers. "Oh tomorrow-" she relaxes and sits on the bed.
Tara realizes for the first time what her must have been thinking. "Fai-"
"No, it's okay I was just... I don't know what I was thinkin."
Tara walks over to stand between her spread legs, instantly Faith's arms circle her waist. "I'm sorry about before. I just didn't- all the memories coming back at once, it was Willow overload, and just the good stuff. I was confused and scared."
"And now?" She looks up into softly blue eyes.
The blonde gives her girl her patented lopsided grin, "Not confused, at least not about you or us." She strokes Faith's cheek. "I love you and only you."
Faith smiles, "Yeah?"
"Yeah." She brushes her lips against her Slayer's gently, feather light, once, twice and then a third time before she deepens it. When they finally pull apart for air she raises an eyebrow. "Now what clothes do I need to pack?"
Faith smirks as she pulls Tara down onto her lap, "Ummm thinkin that the whole clothes thing ain't all that important."
Tara rolls her eyes. "We can't leave the room without being dressed."
"Guess we won't be gettin out much." She winks.
Tara leans in and kisses her again, "Then why bother leaving here? Nice, big, comfy bed."
"Got a point-B thinks we're gone so no interruptions." Her grin gets bigger as she dips in and begins to nibble at her lover's neck.
Tara moans as she tilts her head giving Faith more room to play. She scoots the suitcase and it hit's the floor with a thud, pulling back, before pressing Faith backwards onto the covers she breathes out. "I love you." She states as their eyes meet again and Faith sees the truth to her words.
"Right back at ya Blondie. Right back at ya." She moans as Tara's lips meet hers and a hand snakes to unbutton her jeans.
Faith pushes her away, but grins. "Don't go there yet Blondie, need a shower in the worst way. Lots of dirt and vamp dust." She brings her hands to Tara's attention.
Tara sits up off her girl though her heart isn't in it. She watches Faith stand and grins as she sees her strip her clothes off dropping them onto the floor. "Hamper."
Faith looks at her and glares playfully, then pouts. "I'm all naked here in front of you and all you can say is hamper?"
The witch giggles then shakes her head. "Yeah, well best I could manage out loud. All the other thoughts running around? Well, lots of blushing."
Faith smirks, "Really?" She steps toward her girl. She takes Tara's hand and places it on her hip. The older woman swallows noticeably and fights back a groan as she nods. "Just tell me one of the other words."
Tara's eyes darken as her fingers move against soft skin. She clears her throat and fights the blush as she whispers. "Wasn't one word actually."
"No?" Faith steps closer.
"More-more like a phrase." She moves her hand from Faith's hip and with just a little hesitation drops them to her own sides. As her girl looks on confused she pulls her shirt over her head and leans in closer to her Slayer's ear. Her words are soft and nervous at first but become louder with each chorus. A blushing grin covers her face as she sings. "I wanna kiss you all over-and over again." Her lips press against Faith's neck then she breathes the words again, "I wanna kiss you all over andŠ" she squeals as her panting, aroused, Slayer scoops her up and carries her to the bathroom. Giggles can be heard as the door closes.

Across town the next morning Buffy wakes up. She can't help but smile as she sees Willow's face only inches away from her, resting on her shoulder. Eve is snuggled safely between them. Buffy opens her senses and takes in the redheads, their gentle breathing-the scent of strawberries, she can't help but smile. A hand, of its own accord, reaches out and caresses the woman's face. Buffy looks a little unsure. The feelings of the last few weeks all flooding her at once. She missed Willow, more than she realized-her smile, her laugh, just her Willowy ways. However, we was beginning to wonder if there isn't something more. Lying with her, with them like this seemed so right, so natural.
Her wandering thoughts are interrupted as Eve starts to wiggle around then open her eyes. Buffy smiles at her and puts her fingers on her lips pointing to the sleeping woman, "Mama's sleeping." Eve looks at her then back to Buffy. "Wanna help me with a surprise for your mama?" Again Eve nods, this time more earnestly. "Let's go." She carefully lifts Eve over the redhead and to the floor then she gets up as well. Taking Eve's hand they go toward the kitchen.
In the kitchen Buffy sets Eve on the counter and then asks. "What do you think she wants for breakfast?"
Eve grins, "Fruity Pebbles." Buffy smiles and shakes her head. "Eve likes."
"That's what I thought but what about Mama? What does Mama like?"
"Mama likes mok-kas." She exaggerates the word and Buffy giggles.
"That she does, she's a mocha kinda girl." The Slayer has to agree. "But no mocha here." She shrugs, then a smile finds her lips. "Let's get dressed and go get some and bagels-do you like bagels?"
Eve frowns, "Like Fruity Pebbles."
Buffy laughs as she picks up Eve and sets her on the floor. She searches the cabinets and finds the cereal for the little girl. "Fruity Pebbles." She winks. Eve smiles and climbs carefully into a chair at the table. The blonde gets a bowl, a spoon and then the milk. She joins the child at the table fixing her food for her.
Buffy watches the little redhead as she works to get the cereal onto the spoon and into her mouth. She manages well for her age. She can't help but smile. A few minutes later with a plan formulated she gets the phone and dials. "Hey Dawnie, it's me, can you do me a favor?"
"You still with her?" Dawn's words have an edge.
"Yes. Look, we talked about this right? Things are different."
"I'll believe it when I see it." Dawn says still a little angry.
"You can see it when you get here. Could you bring some breakfast?"
"Why can't you just go get breakfast?"
"Willow's still sleeping and I don't want to wake her. She's really tired."
"So? You're not, just go get bagels and mochas."
"I can't. Look, just do this for me and I'll owe you big time."
"I don't know if I'm ready to see her."
"Then just leave'em on the porch and ring the bell."
"Fine. Six bagels and three mochas-two double chocolate?"
"Thanks Dawnie." Buffy hangs up the phone.
"Who's Dawnie?" Eve asks as she looks up from her cereal.
"My sister. She's gonna bring a surprise for Mama."
Eve smiles and chimes, "Mok-kas." Buffy can't help but smile.

At the Summers house, Dawn is complaining out loud as she gets the car keys and her purse. "I don't see why I haveŠ"
Kennedy walks in and shakes her head, smiling. "Something not right D?"
Dawn glares at her, "One, don't call me that. Or Little D or any other name Faith calls me, you're not Faith. And Two, why are you here?"
Kennedy rolls her eyes, "Maybe you should go back to bed and try getting up on a different side or with a different-"
"Don't say it I'm so not in the mood for your lame ass come-ons."
Kennedy holds up a hand, "Okay," she takes a step back. "Obviously you're being pissy, so I'm just gonna skip this. Where's Buffy?"
Dawn growls, "Willow's and she thinks I'm her delivery service. Calling here telling me to bring breakfast. Don't know why she can't just go get it herself!"
Kennedy smiles as her mind works on a plan, "Okay, now I know why you're not your pleasant self." She pauses, "I could drop it off if that'll help."
Dawn looks at her with a raised eyebrow, "What's the catch, cause I'm not going out with you."
Kennedy smiles, her cockiness returning tenfold, "Eventually you will, but this has nothing to do with that. I need to talk to Buffy anyway."
Dawn growls, "You arrogantŠ" she just glares.

Buffy has changed into her clothes and is changing Eve into a long sleeved green tee-shirt and a pink and green jumper. As she buttons the straps she smiles down at the little girl. "All done."
"Wake up Mama now?" Eve smiles up at the blonde.
"Think that's a good idea. Time for sleepy Willow to wake up and smell the mochas."
The little girl giggles as they start down the hallway to the living room. They slip quietly over to the redhead on the couch and sit down beside her. Buffy wiggles her eyebrows playfully as she looks from the little girl to her friend. Eve leans in and tickles at her neck. Buffy smiles as Willow stirs a little and turns away from the touch. Eve giggles just a little then covers her mouth. Buffy smiles.
Willow mumbles, "No butterflies on the launch pads." She shoos Eve's hand away as it brushes her face this time.
Buffy struggles to stop a laugh. "Wakey wakey Wills," she whispers next to the redhead's ear.
Willow whines and rolls away from them, facing the back of the couch. "Five more minutes," she mumbles, still not awake.
Buffy finally laughs and so does Eve. "Come on Mama," the little girl says. "We have a surprise."
Willow groans and rolls back to face them. She forces her eyes to open and focus on the people responsible for ruining her dream. "Surprise?" They nod. "What kind of surprise?"
"I can't say, but I think you'll like it." Buffy smiles as the doorbell rings. "That would be for you."
"Since you're dressed in something not pajamas wanna get it for me?" They both shake their head no. "Meanies." She pouts but her need to know what the surprise is, out weighs her need for sleep. She pulls herself to her feet and walks to the door as the bell rings again. She glances back at them. "This better be good."
"You'll like it, trust me." Buffy says as she smiles, stands and picks up Eve. They follow the redhead, but not too close.
Willow opens the door, a smile comes to her face and then a frown as she takes in the dark eyed girl standing on her porch with a smile and mochas. The redhead's mind tries to understand what Buffy is doing. Then it hits her, she's trying to help her get over Tara by arranging a date for her. She looks at the girl again.
Kennedy speaks, "Hi."
"Hi." Willow squeaks, panic on her face. "Bye." She closes the door in the young woman's face.
She turns to Buffy, "Okay, not that I don't appreciate, but I'm not- the dating isn't something- just not ready," babbles the redhead.
Buffy looks confused. "Huh?"
"Door, girl, with mochas? I-I thought you-" Willow stops unsure.
The Slayer moves toward the door, as she does she hands Eve to her mama. Buffy opens the door to find a confused Kennedy there. "Buffy?"
"Why are you here?"
"I just... Dawn said and well I was looking for you and... why did she close the door in my face?"
Buffy reaches out and takes the bag and the tray of mochas. "Thanks for breakfast and well... thanks. Bye." She closes the door and leans against it looking at the redhead. "Breakfast," she explains.
"Breakfast, oh, sure, right." She spots the mochas and her smile returns. "Yummy."
* * *
On the porch Kennedy pouts, then growls, "Closing the door in my face, that's just, well it's rude." A smile creeps across her lips. "But wow! A redhead, I like redheads. Scarlet," she gets all dreamy eyed. "Now I know why Faith freaked, cause, damn she's hot!" She looks at the door and raises her hand to ring the bell again. She stands up straight, putting on her best smile ready to get the girl.
