Our Development Center currently hosts the IPT Image Service Center for Image
Conversions and Restorations. The Center provides conversion from both film and
paper to multiple image formats and various forms of storage media. We currently
support standard compression (and of course, uncompressed as well) on all our
scanners and offer custom solutions for loss-less storage. Our equipment supports
gray scale, black & white and dual mode (7-bit gray scale and 1-bit bi-tonal in the
same image) scanning on both film and paper scanners with additional high
throughput SCSI scanning for black-and-white.
In addition to simple conversions, we provide
image enhancement services for all forms of supported media and image formats.
IPT/SAS for Windows, our own document imaging software, is the
core of the service bureau. It provides pipe-lined processing as the images are scanned as well
as post processing operations and preparation for transfer to permanent storage. We
currently offer a long list of custom image processing functionality.
To the right is an image of a CD-ROM for one of our Service Bureau customers, The Thomas
A. Edison Papers. This project involves the scanning and enhancement of the entire
Thomas A. Edison document archive. Images are scanned as gray scale, then cropped and
enhanced to bring out details and remove film noise. Finally, they are written to a CD-R with
custom labelling and case liners. Eventually, all these images will be available for viewing
on the web at the Rugters site.
Our black & white scanning operations all have the added advantage of the IPT
AutoOptimizer which is installed on all our scanners. The AutoOptimizer is an
inline image processing board which operates transparent to the scanner and scanning software.
It provides a wealth of processing options while still operating the scanner at maximum speed.
