Image Processing Technologies has moved into the field of gray scale imaging with
the introduction of the IPT/GSGray Scale Capture Board and device driver for
Windows NT. The IPT/SAS for Windows document imaging software
has been updated to provide a full image scanning, enhancement, storage and retrieval
system incorporating both gray scale and binary image processing tools. There is a
distinct advantage to using gray scale over black-and-white if the highest image quality
is required. Text which is not visible on a standard scanner's output can be captured
and enhanced using the IPT/GS Gray Scale Capture Board.
IPT/GS Gray Scale Capture Board
The IPT/GS is a PCI-based scanner interface card for scanning systems that adds gray
scale capture to a standard scanner interface. Using the IPT/GS, the user may scan
in gray scale, black-and-white, or both simultaneously. An interface to the IPT
AutoOptimizer is included, allowing high speed, high quality image enhancement
to be performed simultaneously with the image capture. The IPT/GS driver, in
addition to image capture functions, provides scanner control either via an onboard
serial port or through a separate connection.
Why gray scale? Roll your mouse over the image below.

See how the abilities of gray scale scanning bring out details of a document that
can easily be lost in a bitonal image. This capability is why gray scale is the best
choice when the scanned image must be true to the original document.
